second trimester recap | new symptoms + appointments

I'm officially in my third trimester! I'm sure all pregnant people say this, but I can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going. how do I give birth in 12 weeks?? the second trimester although the best thus far, brought on its own new symptoms and a lot of more extensive doctor appointments. any tips for the third trimester?

You’re doing it! You’re almost there!! Only advice I would say is not to focus on birth too much.. I spent all my time focused on the birthing process when I should have been learning about breastfeeding, safe sleep, and PPD. Breastfeeding is a critical skill I didn’t realize doesn’t come naturally for babies and moms!? (Like, duh, but I genuinely overlooked it!) Also, enjoy these last few months as just the two of you… you’re going to be great.

Stay super hydrated and if latching hurts the baby might not be on correctly. Make sure to ask the nurses questions. Take a nap when the baby naps, so important!

Hey Sarah! I work in healthcare, and it’s very very common for patients to come in with high blood pressure from anxiety. It happens to me too when I have appointments! For me personally, I get nervous thinking that it will be high, and that stresses me out to the point where my BP is higher. It’s so frustrating when medical professionals won’t listen to you. I really believe people know themselves well. When a patient tells me something about themselves they know, I really take that into account. Just wanted to say you’re far from the only one this happens to!

I have no interest in ever having a child, and I have a legitimate phobia of pregnancy (like, it is honestly what scares me the most!), but watching your videos has been so interesting to me! Like exposure therapy, I suppose. The way you talk about it is so calm and honest and I really appreciate it!

I'm not pregnant but I am glad you brought up the blood pressure thing. I have anxiety and I always have high blood pressure when I go to the doctor and I explain and no one ever listens! The only person that listened to me was a nurse when I went to donate blood.

  • @TJustMeT

Hey! You probably already know this but in case you have not: I've read that donating blood frequently can lower your blood pressure semi long-term. Maybe that's something to look into if you haven't already

I'm hoping to get pregnant soon and I'm living for these down to earth honest updates 🙏🏼❤️ I used to have the high blood pressure problem when I used to get checked for being on contraceptive pills - try taking really exaggerated long slow breaths as soon as you enter the appointment if possible and during the test. If the nurse could see it dropping whilst I was being monitored they were usually less concerned.

They made me so comfortable and happy that I had no blood pressure issues (until 38 weeks when it suddenly spiked and we decided to induce-no pre e) you may consider switching if you decide to have a future pregnancy!

It's been my hardest pregnancy struggle knowing I can't prevent it, but still feeling guilty about it, and anxious as we haven't been talked to about a birth plan yet, if they would want to induce, etc etc. up until this I've had an easy breezy pregnancy but I just don't love it and don't want to so this experience again so who knows what the third trimester will bring

Hi Sarah. So your PPD fears, I just want to let you know that the hospital will tell you about Baby Blues but they probably won't prepare you for what it feels like. It's really intense. I thought something was seriously wrong with me. It lasted about two weeks for me but I felt like an entirely different person. I felt like a robot honestly. I remember going to my in-laws house 5 days postpartum and having to fake smile and like fake conversation. I didn't care about anything outside of taking care of the baby. Obviously I loved her but she just felt like this blob that I was responsible for. I loved her but I didn't really bond with her. It took probably 2 weeks for the baby blues to stop and about 8 weeks for me to get used to the new status quo. Give yourself some time and grace. Nothing wrong with getting help either if you need it.

Not to scare you, but one of my best friends gave birth two days ago and she said contractions were 10/10 on the pain scale and then she got an epidural and gave birth, and then she had to deal with post-birth pain from giving birth after they took her off the epidural. She said you can't prepare yourself for the pain, so maybe just expect the worst? That's not super encouraging, but whatever, you got this!

Can you buy a blood pressure monitor and do it yourself at home when you are not chilled, of you do one in the morning and one in the evening for a few days which will give you a more accurate picture. He in the UK we are pretty big into at home good pressure monitors. It might help you feel less stressed out you see a normal BP and you can tell the doctor that you took it yourself 6 times and it was normal back up your anxiety argument. X

I just had a baby on the 4th of October and I always thought I’d be super scared to give birth but ended up being super chill about it even though I did have some complications. I definitely would rather give birth again than deal with after birth stuff. Not to scare you it’s mostly cause of complications I had and also just not knowing anything about the healing process cause it was my first baby as well. Healing wise with out my complications it’s mostly just feeling sore and like there’s a lot of pressure in that area. Definitely recommend taking enough time off to heal and to spend with your baby as well. I’ve gotten mood swings a lot more after birth like I will cry at everything and will get some depression but not too much that I can’t function. One of the things that shocked me the most was how fast my body changed everyone is different but I lost a lot of weight all at once and it was a lot to take in at once cause I was so use to having a belly and then all of a sudden didn’t have one really at all. But over all birthing experience wise It was other worldly feeling it’s hard to explain but I hope you have a healthy and safe delivery and that you heal fast and enjoy your time with your little girl. ❤️

Also I have extreme anxiety as well and the first time they checked my blood pressure it would be high and then second time it would go down. It was like that my whole 3rd trimester and they wouldn’t leave me alone about it no matter how many times I told them it was anxiety they never believed me. So much so they ended up saying I had gestational hypertension and said they diagnosed me with it just so they could put a label on it. Then ended up inducing me on my due date because they wanted to make sure I wouldn’t get preeclampsia. But during my entire birth I was chill and my blood pressure was normal the entire time. They ended up even commenting on how it was normal and how I was right about just having anxiety. It really annoyed me that no one seemed to believe me my entire pregnancy.

I gained 20 lb the first month I was pregnant and I stayed the same until the very end and it all went to my ass. 😂 And a little in my face. I absolutely hated pregnancy. As someone who suffers from insomnia, I dealt with the worst insomnia in my life. The nine months I was pregnant. The glucose drink made me so sick and they're not supposed to make you chug it because it usually causes people to throw up. Yes if your RH negative you have to get a shot before pregnancy and after pregnancy because your blood attacks their blood and can kill your baby. Your baby also has to get a shot if they don't have RH negative factor because the mix of your blood can kill your baby. If your RH negative, usually your first pregnancy is smooth, but then everyone after that it is rough and you have extremely Hi, chances of miscarry. And once you know you're pregnant, you have to go in to an RH negative shot immediately so that your body doesn't kill your baby. Because your body sees it as an virus. Also something my doctors never told me to do or my nurses was to take fiber put it in your water especially after delivery so that your poop doesn't hurt.

@@sarahhawkinson yeah right and even if it would be your second pregnancy, you're definitely still allowed to complain and to point out the challenges pregnant people have to face Also you even said that you've never felt more like yourself and that you love being pregnant, so I don't know what these people are talking about Don't let those comments get to you
