Hello friends, thanks for checking out our video! In case you haven't read the description, this cat introduction didn't happen right after they were brought home. It took us a few days to have them smell each other in separate rooms. Nonetheless, when they finally met, our early resident (the orange kitty, Hugh G) still felt invaded and started the yelling contest. But everything turned out fine because we kept them at a safe distance and monitored every move they made to stop the possible fighting before it happened. Now they are the best buddies in the world :D ! If you are having difficulties introducing your cats, it's best to learn how to do it the right way from other detailed how-to videos.

@@farzana3233 Overall about 2-3 weeks. After the introduction, they got sick, while being weak together, they started grooming each other. But because one of them was a lot sicker, so we kept them in different rooms for a few days. The other one started meowing and looking for him. After a week or so they got better and could see each other again. Sine then they've become real buddies.

@@hughgandblueguy Thats great! I'm in week 7 with the new kitten and my cats are still annoyed with him, mainly because he is too rambunctious. I hope they get along soon. It's been very slow for us.

Ahhh this is giving me PTSD when I first introduced my cats, Meatloaf and Mochi. Eventually, it all worked out, but boy oh boy was it a process! Y'all did a great job, and I'm so glad you captured it! It's both hilarious and heartbreaking to watch and hear haha.

Your comment gives me hope lol my older cat is 3 and my newest addition is 2 months and she’s only been here 5 days and my older cat is not happy. It’s like at times there’s a gradual progress with him but he still hisses at her from behind the doors and when I introduced them today through a glass door, he hissed and tried to swat at her on the other side. Gonna keep doing that daily and scent transfer

I'm sure this is what happens when you introduce cats too soon to each other, and it's apparent that both these cats were stressed out with the encounter at first. Glad it worked out in the end, tho.

Give it time don’t put them together immediately let them get to know each other from a distance and between doors

We are introducing as well. Our one year old is a small cat compared to our newly adopted 5yr old cat. One year old has only had us and a dog. 5yr old was a stray cat we took in. 5yr old is communal and eager to play. One year old is sooo scared she lashes out. Pray for our family.

@@carriefurr1 Aww! If you are living with someone, get them in a room, and two people can pick one each up at the same time, and play with them. If they get distracted, it's good. Bring them closer and closer. Feed them in the same room. Try to make the other one not seem like a threat. :) Hope they become friends soon! :)

I'm trying to introduce my kitten to my two resident cats. But both of them have different personalities so I'm not sure how to approach it. One will take their aggression on me or the other cat if they hear/smell the new kitten.

@@farzana3233 If I were you, I would give the resident cats what they like the most (toys/treats) when they start to get affected by the smell or sound of the new kitten. I think if they associate the smell or sound of the new kitten with the toys/treats/petting that make them happy/calm/feel safe, with time, they will get used to the new kitten and accept it eventually. I hope everything works out for you and your kitties. :)

True! Hugh G continues to own everything in our home and complains every time Blue Guy uses "his things", haha. But they have loving personality and lick each other at the end of the day. :D

Been trying for 3 months. I’m sitting at the moment, between two cats passed out from catnip. They’re actually in the same room together without fighting, but I’m afraid this could be a gateway herb for them. 😅😂

My cats got introduced last Friday.. We're getting there and I'm sleep deprived 😅😂😂

Feed them on opposite side of the door with door closed...wait for 2-3 days..untill they arent scared of each other..

My resident cat (5yr old) is afraid of a new cat (8 months old). She's hissing, growling and doesn't let a new cat come closer to her. She (the resident cat) stopped playing because she's too stressed out. She's only squatting, looking so sad, that it really breaks my heart to watch it...

I remember bringing home telly my second cat oh boy it was bad took months but now there best friends it took understanding and patience

​@shellyortiz1977 what fo you mean patience? Did you just let them brawl or did you do things to help them along. Did you discourage the bad behavior? Encourage good behavior? After a month my resident girl is still hissing and growl and new kitten boy.

Make sure they don’t get cornered do not treat them differently they will get jealous

I wish it was this easy for my two boys. 7 years now, Ramses wants to make friends with Bruce. Bruce will always run away hissing, or attack him. After that, Bruce loses all confidence, and is even afraid to go out in the garden.

I'm so sorry to hear that after 7 years they still don't get along, perhaps it's time for therapy with a local cat expert. Really hope they can make friends with each other! Good luck!

@@hughgandblueguy exactly. But this time a decent expert. The last one i consulted was a disaster : she never wanted to meet Bruce and she never wanted to see the interaction...she said it was unnecessary. Only 1 meeting with Ramses. After that, all communication was on WhatsApp 🙄 After one year i stopped this ridiculousness. Me and my dad, we keep our cats separated. We live in house divided in two, with a shared garden. I live with Ramses and Bruce moved out when Ramses when born. Bruce went to live with my dad ..he decided this himself. With a bit of effort, we let the cats in and out of the house and normally they don't meet each other anymore...

@@sammylenjou4235 ya gotta remove their 🌰 🌰. Works like a charm. I have 7 brothers all a year and a half. Thy used to fight and spray and try and do nasty things to each other. Once I had the problem removed all is fine.

7 years? You can try to reintroduce them and see if that works. By introduce - I don’t mean the method in this video this is textbook how NOT to introduce cats. Look up a KZreadr guy called ‘Jackson Galaxy’. Plenty of videos of how you should introduce cats properly and much more. Failing that cats not getting on together to the point of one being terrified, you should have rehomed one or the other cat..

I'm curious as well.its been almost 6 weeks and my resident still tries to attack my new baby.

did all the preliminary meeting plan but the new cat wants to play or sniff noses and my old cat doesnt want anything to do with new cat. new cat comes over, old cat hisses aggressively then tries to run off, chase!! wee!! BIG fight! now my old cat hisses whenever she even sees new cat. Now i have to start over but dont think she will ever like new cat and we have to keep her 2 months till owner comes back

I told myself I'm not getting second cat until I renovate my bathroom and the kitchen... I'm starting to regret because I know that the second was just purrfect for all of us. But it wasn't for free so... I tell myself it's worth waiting...

For anyone watching this who is thinking of doing a cat introduction soon, this is pretty much the worst way possible to do this. Letting two cats straight into the same room to yowl and hiss at each other is a terrible idea. Letting one cat run up and ambush another that is using the litter tray is possibly the worst thing you could do (worst case scenario it scares the cat and it starts going outside the litter). Definitely take it slow, let cats smell each other through a closed door, feed them on either side of that door. It can take weeks to gently introduce them.

Haha you are right about what you said, but what you said is totally not the case in this video. They were not let straight into the same room, they had been separated into different rooms and they had been smelling each other for over a week (if I remember it correctly it was over a week, it's been two years). The one that was "using the litter tray" was not using it... he was poking into the other one's room and found a litter tray and decided to do a further inspection. The orange kitty remains to be bullying, extremely vocal and territorial, but that seems to be the traits of street cat and orange&white cat to be specific. But he is also abnormally smart and loving. Now he loves the other cat so so much, whom he hissed at and yelled at at first. Sometimes we just need to understand that every cat is different and things can go wrong when they are being introduced even if you do everything right. But in general, I agree with you in your comment when introducing cats. But just to clarify, it was not the case in our introduction. :)

Well I have to return the adopted cat I got. The APL where I am gives 30 days and you can return the pet ( and it will not count as surrender unless it’s past 30 days ). I thought maybe it would not take that long and boy was I wrong. I have a 15 year old resident cat so I adopted an 8 year old thinking he is a lot older. Maybe it will go ok since everything I was reading about do not get kitten with a senior bc kitten to hyper etc. I did the room swap. Blanket swap. Screen up. Every single time the 8 year old is the one attacking the screen to get to her . I tried slowly letting them get closer in the same room and both times the 8 year old went running and growling and wanting to beat the 15 year old up. It’s been 3 weeks and I’m back to room and blanket swap. However , I have ti work in another state for 3 months and I just can’t take two cats with me fighting like crazy when my job is stressful enough for me and the move for the 15 year old will be enough. I def think you need a lot if time and maybe more time with older cats. I don’t think I will ever do the cat introduction thing again. Much easier if you adopt two that are in same cage or just one. I learned my lesson on this one. My sis said it took 8 months for her cats to tolerate each other after introducing.

I think my cats are doing better than this and my cat just woke up from the howling 😂

It might be the water got them wet and then got them sick but idk.

Thanks for your comment! :) One of my cats (Blue Guy) was kept in a big cage with a few other cats before we picked him up. And dogs were free roaming in that place, too, so we suspect that he got infected there. But it could be anything because he has a weak immune system and got a cold this year too, not as bad as the last one though. Have a good day! :)

How long did they accept each other? My 1 year old cat and a new 2 month kitten met 3 days ago... but until now they've been hissing and yelling 😭

It's a good idea, to get your cat's nails trimmed and the new cat's nails as well. That way if they decide to go after one another, they won't tear each other up, especially if one gets in the other room with the other one... just suggesting...

Indeed … a video on how NOT to introduce cats. They were very lucky things worked out. But, the first 5-6 minutes showed nothing but very agressive and scared cats. That’s not “a little bit agressive”, that’s MAJOR aggression right there.

I have no idea what is wrong with my cat that was here I found a stray but a couple weeks ago and I slowly introduced him to my cat which it was going okay and then I let them out together and she was kind of lashing at him and growling well then one day I let them both outside and the one stray he took off and he didn't come home for like 3 days well then one night I was outside and he suddenly appeared so then I brought him inside the house and then my other cat was so happy that he came home that she was touching his nose and rubbing up against them and then she went away and then he roamed the house and then it wasn't even 5 hours later it was like oh my God why did you bring him in here and she was growling and just being a you know what I'm wondering if that calming sprays from feel away works I ordered it and I'm going to see

@@stark20ful Works with our kitties. But they are buddies most of the time. If yours just generally don't get along, then need to fix that first. Perhaps play with them together and give them treat together, anything that can make them both happy. I'm not an expert though, you can find more helpful videos from Jackson Galaxy :)

@@mahoganybrown9366 I tried the Jackson Galaxy way, step by step. I've read everything the internet has to offer on introductions. NOTHING works. It has been 2 months already - and so far nothing. So no, The Jackson Galaxy way does not always work. Sometimes it's just patience, and letting the cats establish a hierarchy with a watchful eye.

this is pretty irresponsible and upsetting, you just let them meet straight away? oooh no should bring the new cat into the currents cats territory to smell their scent then remove the new cats away from that area, then bring back the current cat back on their own without new cat there where the new cat has been to smell the current cats scent and left some of its own scent, then the current cat can smell the new cats scent its like a long distance handshake. it helps with feeling less stressed for them.

We didn't introduce them straight away and did all the presmelling, gave them plenty of time separately, but we didn't record any of that because this is not a how to video.
