I have hair loss and since i work as a pharmacy dispenser, i thought why not give some try to fix my hair loss. I now on Minoxidil 5% topical solution and i take Biotin supplement 900mcg/day. My question is : 1. Does biotin is actually linked to causing acne ? Bcs i noticed some acne on my hair but i am not sure wether it is due to the minoxidil solution (bcs it has ethanol 30% as the excepient) ,or due to the biotin supplement. 2. Does collagen helps with breakage of hair or could prevent hair loss ? And if so, what is the reccomended dosage ? 3.I always wonder, if some supplement e.g. Collagen 10000mg/btl, does my body really could process the 10000mg ? Or will i just passed an expensive urine ? Your help is greatly appreciated. I tried read research article online about pharmacodynamic of collagen and biotin but is very limited in findings. Thanks docto ! You have my subscriptions !

At 900 micrograms, biotin is less likely to cause acne than minoxidil. Of course, I would need to know more about your specific story to say what’s actually involved. But if it’s strictly the hair and strictly the areas where minoxidil is applied that has the acne, then minoxidil or minoxidil induced seborrheic dermatitis is more likely. 900 micrograms is a good dose of biotin and not the typical dose that gets implicated in acneiform eruptions. As for collagen, we just don’t know yet. It’s popular of course but good data is still a bit lacking.
