Thank you Dr. Donovan! Great as always. Are patients always compliant with the one line treatment for 9-12 months? Especially when they're investing in JAK inhibitors with hopes of superior results.

Not always! It’s easy to feel down when you have such high hopes and don’t see any results after 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months, 6 months. It takes alot of up front counseling as well as guidance along the way. It takes a good amount of reassurance that what patients may be seeing could be normal. The tough thing is that there is so much excitement around the JAks but 1 out of 3 patients with severe AA will be really disappointed by their results. So we need to keep a balanced view. I think the thing that matters most is an open dialogue and to carry hope if there is reason to carry hope! Sometimes the patient will carry the flashlight to navigate these dark times and sometimes it’s up to someone else to carry the flashlight and help the patient through the journey. The new JAK inhibitor era is not quite as easy and straightforward as many make it out to be!

@@donovanmedical9780 Are you confident in recommending JAK inhibitors, considering the limited long-term side effect data available? I feel like I need to learn A LOT more before I start suggesting it. Specially for my teenage clients.
