Seascape photography at Southwold - Suffolk

#Landscapephotography #Suffolk #Southwold
In this weeks video I met up with Gary Norman and Jamie Overland for some sunrise photography on Southwold beach in Suffolk.
It was my 1st visit to this beach and by the amount of photographers there, it's obviously a very popular location and I could see why. The beach huts that nestle on the sand make it an ideal sunrise location and if you can get a few breaks in the cloud, the sun should light up the Marram grass and beach huts perfectly.
The dunes are also worth exploring and as with any photography, doing some scouting pre sunrise will pay dividends. Unfortunately, as the beach is a 4 hour round trip for me, I couldn't take the advantage of a scouting mission and so had to shoot blind.
Having said that, this shoot will serve me well for future trips as I'm sure i will re-visit at some point in 2020.
Thanks for watching and until next weeks video,
See ya

I'm behind my youtube watching, but glad i finally caught up with your vids Darren. Appreciating how you're paying attention to the details and discussing them, like distractions around the edge of a frame, and the horizon.

That image at 6.10 is gorgeous - a wallhanger deffo. Have seen some great images from Southwold and that was up there with them for me. Would have to visit the plcae but at nearly 300 miles away from here it would have to be a few days away with some guaranteed weather for me to be making a journey that far! Thought I had dialed into one of them DIY progs my wife is always watching - she it s the DIY person in our house..lol. Atb ALAN

It just shows that you roll up at a location and you look around and think, 'This is great', half an hour later you're wondering 'Why can't I get a composition, the camera's too low, the grass is too high, the suns in the wrong place'. You got some really good compositions but it reminds you that we're not shooting the objects, we're shooting the light bouncing off the objects. When the light is spot on you don't have to work so hard....and if everyone else would just bugger off and get out of the way :-) Nice morning out with mates though.

Hi Darren, Great vlog, you really are much more organised then i am posting vlogs from four weeks ago , i assume you have at least a couple more in the can already to go . Loved the portrait image of the beach huts at 05:48 and the attention to detail about getting the roof of the huts below the horizon line has really paid dividend here.

Ah good memories of a great morning out. Really like your landscape composition of the huts, the leading line of that track on the left third worked brilliantly with the grasses on the right. Nice one mate - lets do it again soon!

Some free DIY advice thrown in there as a bonus eh Haha. Beautiful location mate my favourite has to be the image with the sun top centre 👌 shame you didn't get the dog Walker going opposite way, but like you said you got the image anyway.

Very enjoyable video Darren. The Lifeboat Inn looks like a winner. I'll keep that in mind if I ever find my way to that area. You make an excellent point about "checking the edges" of the frame and adjusting the location of those finials. I've spoiled so many compositions by missing a small detail and I cannot rescue the shot with my rather rudimentary Photoshop skills. I quite like the portrait shot. I know you were hoping for a dog walker but I see you chose to ignore the bloke with the metal detector 😊. What on earth do those guys ever find anyway? I've always wondered... I guess in the end it's just a walk on the beach, but I'd rather do that with a camera! Cheers mate! 👍

Nice composition at 6.10 - its just that beach huts don't quite do it for me as a subject. I don't know why - this is a pretty decent collection of them. Takes all sorts, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Brilliant suspenseful moment though at 8.25 - I was on the edge of my seat waiting to hear "...dog walker - but all I've got is a, a metal detectorist? Excuse me for a moment..." I loved it when the sky filled with birds. Are you tempted at all?

Nice Darren especially the one of the huts and whispering grass at 6.08. Whispering grass didn’t Eamonn Andrews sing that song oh no whispering sands 😂

Love that location, almost a year to the day since I was there.... Did exactly the same as you, finished up and went for a bacon roll and cup of tea at the cafe on the road just down from the little car park.

Good video Darren, but didn't like some of the images where its really obvious the too much grad filter was used, you can see it half way up the beach, sorry spoilt it for me.
