What a great location. Looks like there are so many possible compositions. I think my fave is the colour version of the two boats at 6:30-really strong simple comp with wonderful light. Well rescued 😉. I’m never distracted by “rushed” intros. Viewers generally understand that there is a lot going on during a sunrise and it’s important to put photography ahead of vlogging. The light waits for no man! Enjoyed this one as always Darren. Cheers.

Hi Jeff and I glad you enjoyed this video and understand the rushed intro’s (sometimes) 😉 It’s a beautiful spot, but isolating the boats can be challenging. I had to use the clone stamp a lot to remove all the sail boats in the back ground. I managed to get 2 vlogs from our hike and so keep an Eye on the channel as you are in the 1st one quite a lot. Thanks for you help matey 🍺🍺

Lovely bit of border patrol, composition and light at 6:25. Great shot that. Rather you than me, wading in all that water. 👍👍

Hi Barrie, Thanks for the generous comment and I hope you enjoy Pin Mill, but please be mindful that the boats don’t quite look like this anymore. I’m sure you’ll find good compositions but you won’t be able to replicate the 3 boats anymore. Best wishes

I'm so glad you didn't change the image of the 3 boats to black and white - the soft colours turned out perfect :) I had my first go at juggling all my camera gear with an incoming tide last night... it's a lot more difficult than it seems! And then I spent all this morning trying to get the sand out of my nice new tripod...

Paul Alex 😂😂 I feel your pain brother. When I returned from Happisburgh, I had more sand in my bag, car and shoes than a kiddies sand pit. The image your referring to is going into the framers as it looks great in COLOUR 😉 and in print. Black and white! WTF was I thinking 😉

Great video Darren. Love the picture of the three boats. Funny how we often look for separation in compositions while this shot works for me because of the slight overlap between each boat. It really helps lead me in and helps to tell more of the story for me.

Jamie you have to visit Glyder Fawr in Snowdonia. There is a rock on the summit that looks like the iron throne!! I kid you not. I sat in it and it’s in my next video. I hope you got out mate. 🍺🍺

Hi Darren, nice find, not a location I have heard of or seen any images, not that I am aware of anyway? There is something about photographing old wrecks for sure. I think the colour image at 6.21 of the 3 boats in portrait was my fave of the selections shown, nice composition. Off to search 500px (my go to search location) for images of this place :)

It’s well worth a visit Alan, but make sure you check the tide times. There’s also a pub where you can grab a nice breakfast afterwards. I printed the shot you’re referring to and it looks great. It’s going to the framers next week 👍 Have a good one matey 🍺

Looks bloody awesome down there, Darren. I'm not keen on the side angle on the 1st but the sky was wonderful. I waffled on for 10 minutes and I was out of frame recently. 10:07 works for me. Cheers.

Lovely vid, proves that landscape vids don't need to be all bells and gongs. Slow mo's tracking shots, fitting lyrical music look nice but can overtake the vlogger and the images. You always seem to get that right, others seem to think they're filming Ben Hur. KISS usually works better. Both the black and whites and colour shots work; slow shutter speed also works as it emphasises the passage of time for these boats. I like boats, I like sunrise, but I'm lazy and don't see many (prefer sunsets maybe), love East Anglia (as you know), love genteel decay. Combine the lot...lovely jubbely.

I do shoot B&W (film). When you first said, 'I see this as a black and white,' I thought he's got the camera facing the wrong way again. The black and whites work not just because of the composition but because the sunrise wasn't that strong so you could get good tones in the detail. A contrasty shot wouldn't have worked (IMP - in my opinion). Enjoy the next early morning... whilst I'm tucked up in bed.

i had the same problem at pin mill its a great place but difficult to find shot, like you say separation is hard... Nice shot of the three boats..

Lovely Vlog Darren, looks a cracking but complicated place to photograph. The image at 6.28 for me was my favourite. Don't know the area at all but is Pin Mill a 'boat graveyard'?

Hi Val and thank you. With regards to the plastic. No, not that I can recall. There was a lot of foam and scum on the water that started to swirl as the tide was going out.

Hi Darren, just watched this one again, just terrific shots from this stunning location. I plan on visiting here quite soon and just wondered which would you consider to be the most important,, high tide time or sunrise time ?

Morning roland, In a perfect world I’d say both. Sunrise for the warm light and a high tide that’s receding, for the swirls around the boats. But if I had to choose just one, I’d go with sunrise. One other thing that I’m sure you’re aware of, but the boats no longer look like this anymore. However, I’m sure you’d be able to find alternative compositions. Good luck bud and enjoy the trip to Pin Mill 🍺

Early morning landscape photographers are the envy of all photographers. having that motivation to get up that early makes me jealous! well done Darren, loved the video.
