SEARCHING The River Of An ANCIENT Medieval Bridge
Ойын-сауық
Join us as we embark on a magnet fishing adventure to explore the mysteries hidden beneath the tranquil waters of the last remaining fortified river bridge in Great Britain. This iconic bridge, boasting its majestic gate tower standing proudly upon its structure, is not just a testament to architectural brilliance but also a treasure trove of history waiting to be unraveled. As we cast our magnetic lines into the depths below, will we stumble upon medieval artifacts, remnants of ancient battles, or perhaps lost treasures once guarded by the fortress above?

I’m gutted ! I only live a few miles down the road from Monmouth. As an avid fan I would love to have popped down and say hello. I often get fish n chips from the chippy next to the bridge and sit down on the steps by the river bank to eat them. As the river drops you can easily paddle around in there from one side to the other and there are large stones which I reckon would nicely capture small finds. I’ll keep my eye out for your beanie Mike 😃
Brill guys you all did so well 🥰🥰🥰

Hi Arlene 🖐😁
The alleged escutcheon is a Plane blade, the telephone/aerial is part of an Edwardian bed frame, although bent and the triangular shaped piece of cast iron, is part of a Victorian box iron.

I learnt to drive around Monmouth and in those days you could drive over that bridge, so this video has been extra special to watch. I've got an area for you to research on, try looking up Monnington on wye bridge. It's about 9 miles north of Hereford and although the bridge in no longer there, in its day was a vital crossing. Or how about the old wooden toll bridge at Whitney on wye. The curly bit that Steve found early on in the video is a stand to hang lamp from.
The medieval gate is amazing! I wish I could have seen it when we lived in England many years ago. You guys are so funny, it’s a hoot to watch you. Good luck fishing!
❤❤❤
You’re certainly pulling up fixings from the structures which used to be on the bridge. One of the pictures of the bridge has a great example.

The pointy piece of steel that she thought was off a door looks like it could be off a portcolous like the metal gate that slid down from the top in front of the wooden doors.

At time stamp 15.15 that triangle thing with the opening in rear is an old Iron that they would put hot rocks or coal in the opening. It's just missing the handle and little door that closed over the opening in back

Enjoyed the vid guy's, by the way that spiral thing that you recovered was a Medieval candlestick holder! 👍.
@10:20, that item looks like you would set a tea cup on the flat part and the hook would hold your tea bag.

Hi Mike, sorry you lost your hat
Always enjoy your videos and your quest for history, really entertaining🙂I’m thinking the ‘escutcheon’ might be a blade from a wood plane? My first thought on seeing it.

The twisty curly piece ( King arthers cup holder 😅) possibly hang off of something high and have a candle mounted on it???
Another interesting episode, I enjoy the snippets of history you edit in. Would love to come to the UK to check out all the historic places but the cost to come from Australia is not out of my price range unfortunately

Sorry, Kristy
Glen, have you tried the fibre wheels for cleaning delicate metals up? Similar to the wire brush but made of nylon fibre and it removes crud but cos it's a lot softer than metal it won't remove the surface easily, they fit in a Dremel type tool, are universal, and best of all, cheap as...try Temu or Shein, don't eBay them you'll pay through the nose, Temu will get them to you inside 10 days, just a minimum order of £15...👍
@user-ri4hu2ul2x
Ай бұрын
They're made of nylon, 24 pieces for £4.98 on Temu, can't send you a pic but I've used them on copper tankards and they leave the surface matt finish, so a good buffing will bring it back to gleaming.
water, boats, and alcohol is a bad mix.

Insane magnet fishing 8 months ago, the lens Glen has is a cats eye lens out of the middle of the road, 100%, cos as a naughty 8 year old and curious, a couple of us dug one up on a disused road and dismantled it with brute force, only to see the history of the cats eye and its inventor on Blue Peter several days later 😂😂😂
Who shoots the drone footage? They are very accomplished 👍👌
Hi Terri and Paul
looks like the end of a 20 gauge shot gun cartridge.
The cartridge case could be a .455 cal Webley ?
What is the name of the song at the opening of the vid please ?
That first find is a plane blade. Carpenters plane.
The 1st thing u showed the keyhole is actually off of a wood plane.
The spiral hand made metal might have been for a flower pot to hang somewhere.

Why throw the magnet rocks back when you will no dought pick them up again.
@PeakyDippers

They are good to be on the river bed for fish to lay their eggs in and other creatures. If we collected all the magnetic bits we would have buckets full and the scrap yards don't take it.
You need to get a metal detector

Do you have a pinpoint (short range) metal detector aka a "carrot". May be useful when mudlarking.

Its a shame magnets 🧲 can't pick up none ferris metals i reckon theirs allsorts of cool coins down there you have picked a couple up in your crud so they're there.
