Just found this video and subbed. I’ll be in the Ortley surf the first week of August and although it’s fun, I’m kinda tired of lugging around big chunking gear and mostly catching skates and dogfish. (Not to mention family freaking out about bait in the freezer)😁 This year, I’m switching it up. I frankensteined a lighter, more mobile set up by pairing an 8’ med Berkeley big game rod with a Penn Pursuit IV 3000 reel. Only cost about $60. I wanna hit the beach runnin’ as soon as we get there so I got some high-low fluke rigs, bucktails, 4” gulp, and some top-water poppers as I’m usually privy to some schoolies and snappers feeding on bunker schools close-in. I’m hoping the opportunity arises and the 6” bunker popper I got slays🤞. Top water? Hell yeah. Anyway, I never know what kind of conditions we’ll see that time of year. Sometimes it’s dark coId northern water in the 60’s and the next day it’s crystal clear in the mid 70’s + with fish you usually find in the Carolinas. Jersey in August, you never know. Whatever the conditions, I plan on being out there every morning and evening throwing any and everything I got to rip ‘em outta the surf. I look forward to it all year long.

South Jersey surf bite has been tough for me so far this year. It's coming, I just have to be patient. Schoolies have been hit or miss and it's still a little cold in the bay for a good flounder bite yet.

Probably because of the asshole that owns the bait shop in Atlantic City had everyone and their mother out on these same rocks when the bluefish limit was 15 per person and everyone out there was catching gators was a slaughter on them rocks everyday fish piles everywere the blues haven’t ran through there like there since
