I love spiral notebooks for work because I can flip it to be one page wide and keep notes during meetings with clients. So thank you for including that section in this video. They often get overlooked.

Hi Sam, I have to say that this is the most honest and straightforward notebook / workshop review that I have ever seen. Kudos to you. You have addressed a lot of issues in regards to purchasing notebooks to meet our personal purpose, requirements and desires. You have made us stop and think and consider the KISS principle Keep It Simple Stupid. Does it really need to be fancy, lustrous and complicated? Thanks for this great video.

I like how this sounds like a hostage message by the end of the video. If you think you're deep into the notebook life now, wait until you hit your Zettelkasten phase. I thankfully survived mine and am now back to the large softcover Moleskine life.

I think you're the first person I've seen on the internet who fills up their BUJO before moving on to a new one. I thought I was the only one. 😀

Thanks Sam for doing this. I've had similar issues. I did use a Traveler's notebook for a couple of years for my BUJO and Journal, but I didn't like the fact that it didn't lay flat. And I had other A5 notebooks - one for each research project I was doing at the time. And I am a fountain pen user and wanted good paper. Anyway, I ended up carrying around 3-4 notebooks all the time. And because I had to have a separate notebook for each research project, many of those notebooks would end up with a lot of unused pages. I considered disc and ring bound notebooks but I knew I could not used them because my research notes need to be in a bound notebook. Recently, I heard about the Rotorfaden Taschenbeigleiter notebook system. So I bought one and am using that with several A5 notebooks. So now, I only care the Rotorfaden notebook and my journal insteadall of those other notebooks. Hopefully this will be the answer to my situation.

I feel your pain of always have 3-4 notebooks and most of them not being filled up all the way. I remember seeing a Rotorfaden notebook system at a stationary store awhile. I will check these out again. Thank you for your suggestion

Hi Sam. Thanks for your video. I understand your frustration as I went through this too. Travelers notebook didn’t work for me as well. Not much of space, small amount of sheets… You may consider using A5 spiral clip-based notebook + according hole cutter (the option I fortunately stopped with). I find the ability to change sheet order and form their relative sections the way I want and have everything in one single notebook is priceless. Accordingly you can place your favorite paper, some custom printed templates etc.

As a notebook geek I totally understand you. Have been trying to find that preverbal "Paper/Notebook peace"... And guess what, I haven't found it because it's a myth. Every notebook has limitations. The biggest thing to find something that is close to that peace is to understand "What is not!" When you understand what each notebook is NOT, it will be way easier to calm down and find a solution that works for you.

Hey Sam, great video. This gave me some ideas! ive never really rocked a bullet journal so researched what that was. currently, I'm opting for a simple field notes book to have in my back pocket to take down key info throughout the day. I used to rock a write in the rain while in the Marine Corps to take down orders and objectives so perhaps the idea is the same. Im starting college next week and i remember Cornell notes were my favorite in hs so perhaps there are notebooks following that style under the brands you reviewed. Anyhow, have a great day, and thank you for the video Most respectfully, SamTheOddMan

I'm kinda of a notebook nerd too and own a gread deal of them (my personal favourite was moleskine before the paper quality dropped too much to be competitive for it's price) but, to be perfectly honest, a bog standard amazon basics notebook will work great 99% of the time, they are ultimately functional and extremely cheap.
