Fun Fact.. Ted Cassidy actually played another character on the Addams Family TV series besides Lurch, and it was his hand as Thing that viewers saw. Indeed its why Thing was almost always in a scene just the other actors not Cassidy as he was just off camera reaching up thru the many boxes around the set. When Lurch-Thing were in the same scene which was rare it was someone else hand and only in the movies did Thing ever appear outside a box. Baby Ghoul is just chilling back at the crypt on such a blistering day, and is his Morticia as much as he is her Gomez on this outing by phone...

The house facade was only temporary, so it doesn’t surprise me, but it’s a set, both inside and out, that always impressed me growing up. In that it felt like a real location, they went above and beyond to make this thing look as real as you can get.

Sadly, as more and more movies are made, less money is made from each one and therefore less investment, which probably means putting up the money for such huge and realistic sets may be a thing of the past. We're seeing that now with the Marvel movies. They keep getting more and more grand but the production value seen on screen is really starting to slip.

I loved both of these movies as a kid. My wife and I still watch them throughout the Halloween season every year.

Michael, you're so good at this you could align a shot of a raindrop in the desert! That's why we love your channel, the love and dedication for what you do. The Addams movies are so cult, they could've at least set a sign to get the fans know where everything was... FUN FACT: I've seen a picture years ago of an article online which said the mansion's walls in the TV show were actually painted pink to make them look that way in black and white.

I was lucky enough to watch them build the house facade from our offices in Glendale. Your location is correct. The filming was spectacular and lights were seen across the valley. The road was close off to all of us during filming. But we could drive by after filming was completed. Bob

Love your videos. I live by the Valhalla Cemetery in Burbank; I walk there regularly because it's quiet and I look for old grave makers many with birthdays dating back to the 1800's. The oldest I found so far is 1864. Next time I am there I will pay my respects to Pugsley. Thanks for your good work.

That first Addams Family needs some kind of special edition blu-ray release with some good special features on it that really dive deep into the production and it's legacy. All the releases have been so bare bones. The set design alone deserves it's own feature.

I haven't even finished watching this but have to share... this makes my heart so happy! My great grammy and my amazing family lived on E. Providencia in Burbank. It was always our home away from home! I remember as a teen they showed me where the addams family house was! It wasn't too far from their house so I think u nailed it! Update! I asked my great aunt who grew up there and she confirmed! You got the correct location! She said- It was actually at the bottom of starlight bowl in a big empty dirt parking lot which overlooks Burbank Great job! And thank u its so good to see burbank after all these years!

I would like to share something regarding the history of the Addams' mansion: The establishing shot of the mansion from the original TV show is a real mansion, (or house) in which I do believe still stands today. What we see is a photograph at the beginning credits and the studio added Morticia's flower room to its right and gave it another floor on top to make it look like a typical large mansion. I think the original mansion looked spookier because it looked abandoned. Thank you for taking us down memory lane. I never thought in a hundred years that someone would take the time, (especially on a hot day!) to produce this. Well done Michael :)!

@@marlene4702regarding the 1964-66 TV series it was a real house used in the opening credits & the first scene with the mailman for the pilot episode only. Then the rest of the series was a painting. There was no facade. Only the 1991 movie used a facade.

when i was in my 20s, i worked at the Glendale Disney Store and one day after work a group went to eat. like 8 of us. and we started talking about all the famous hauntings in the area. this was the 90s. googling stuff wasn't as common or as productive. plus, our cells were only phones (no apps) and maybe half of us had them. and we drove all over from Pasadena into Burbank. for hours. so much fun. one house was in those hills but south of where you are. we did go that way to find a gravity hill location but didn't find it. we were beat by then. good times.

I was 1 in 1991 & 4 in 1994 so I literally did grow up with the movies. And still love them. My mom was 1 in 1964, when the original TV Series. But, I love them both!!!

I also wanted to send my gratitude for having found the location. It's true - for years, all that was really said as to where the facade was erected was that it was on a hill overlooking Burbank. That you managed to line up mountains in the background with the help of an obscure old photo you managed to find on Facebook is remarkable! Two additional interesting little details: Since you opened the video with the clip of the film's famous clock replica, I thought I may pass along a little trivia tidbit. Visible for only a moment or so after the shot pulls out and just before it cuts to the next, one can notice small puffs of smoke emitting from the top of the clock mansion's main tower. This is a reference to a small deleted subplot entirely omitted from the final film. As evidenced in many screenplay-adapted official novelizations, not everything written in the script makes it into a film's final cut. The 1991 film's original script contained many more moments for Grandmama (or Granny, as the films referred to her, played by Judith Malina), who was in a near-constant battle with a fog machine she would presumably use on dark nights to cause the auto accidents from which Pugsley would steal the stop signs he collected to decorate his bedroom. Thus, a tiny figure of Grandmama tinkering with her machine spews small clouds atop the clock, though in a later scene she kicked the "bucket of bolts" off the rooftop, nearly decapitating Lurch as it descends to the ground. Additionally, when returning for "Addams Family Values," the production chose to slightly redesign the mansion to be much more faithful in its adaptation of Charles Addams's original New Yorker illustrations. Instead of building a full-scale facade, a new, scaled-down model of not only the mansion, but also the graveyard was built within a massive soundstage. After filming was completed, the disassembled kit of the house was discovered and auctioned off in recent years, the new owner assembling it and uploading photographs online.

Very interesting! Also, in the novel -- after Morticia leaves Fester in his room for the night and he has the face-off with Wednesday, when she closes the door he explores the mansion and finds the school bully taxidermied in a display case. This was actually filmed for the movie because when it originally came to pay-per-view in 1992, there was a quick shot of it in the trailer.

I obsess over movie locations just like you do. Lining up the backgrounds and imagining what it looked like in the movie. It's just really interesting to see these locations. Living in Texas and oklahoma, my choices are limited by it doesn't stop me.

Great video! Love the Adams Family. Raul Julia is buried in Puerto Rico. There is a Wendy's near by the cemetery and I remember working on the day they were burying him so many people who attended. R.I.P...

I did a review of a film on my channel called "The Old Dark House" which turned out to have some opening animations by Charles Addams. And was lucky enough to meet Lisa Loring at a Spooky Empire Mahem convention about 10 years ago.

I was in 6th grade when they came out. We used to see the house they built at the top of the hill. Jimmy Workman was in my class and still had the Pugsly haircut the school year after that.

Love it. I love everything Addams family. Raul Julia is the only gomez for me. Rip.

I really enjoyed this video. But when you got to Pierce Brothers Valhalla cemetery I started getting teary-eyed. My mom is buried there. I haven't been back there to see her grave in 33 years. I want to go back and visit but it's just hard to find her. Whenever I go this office is always closed so I don't get no help finding her grave. But anyway I did enjoy the video. Seeing where The Addams family mansion was built at. It was a lot of fun to watch
