Master Hurley is the epitome of smooth. The cat is simply tres cool and his advice or two cents on bass players role or duty in a song is spot on.
As an audio engineer by I am absolutely FASCINATED by the phylosophys applied chasing bass tones as an elite session player.
A P bass with a B15 is the perfect bass setup for me. 50 years later and it still hasn't been improved upon.

It has.
when he banged that vintage bass against the other one my heart dropped.
Love seeing sessions guy's rig's....they are super clean
Great info, thanks for sharing!!
Same bass here! 5 string version, updated with Nordstrand pickups and Schaller bridge. All the best!
Hey brotha. I mean this is all good and all but most of the time we get to see all this great gear, but then don't get to hear it. We bass players WANNA HEAR IT ALL!!!! :) were professional listeners are we not? ;)

I mean well Sean is a very well known studio player so you probably already heard all this stuff on the multiple records that he’s been a part of.

@@lavadoraautomatica1 He's on a ton of recordings but every time he's on youtube all he does is talk. As far as I've been able to find there's only one video of him actually just playing.

Hi Warren, I'm a bassist myself. I use a 1977 Fender Jazz. Your videos have given me a lot of help. Thanks from Ireland.Regards, Jerry.

So James Jamerson used sunburst P-Basses back in the 60's and Sean is using essentially the same thing all these decades later... The moral of the story is if it sounds great, don't mess with success! Great rig, Funk Brothers approved! Love it!
You will always be the best.🙂
Thanks for the info and sweet setup Sean!!

Love when a 😎 Bass player uses a plectrum, flats and foam an a 4 string passive bass to obtain a specific sound. Proper. Nice vid. Thank you. 😊😊😊

It's cool having the volume marked on the amp by tape, as in the studio you can have it at the best sounding volume and it doesn't matter how loud it is.

Recording Engineers have been doing that for decades before software recording was even a concept. 🙂
I suffered a lot with the EBS bc too gritty, but I intentionally set the tone much similar like Sean. 😊
More!!
I’m a guitarist playing bass and kind of want to expand my bass rig. Looks like I need a p bass, some kind of semi hollow, and the flip top 15. At least based off all these bass rig videos of yours that I’ve been watching lol. Pretty awesome though! I’m having way more fun than I thought I would playing bass

I would love to know what pedals he is using on his board
Hi Warren, and thanks for your channel! I've enjoyed each of your bass player's videos, so please: Keep it on! :-) Just one question: Could you tell me the name/model of Sean's Looper? Thanks in advance!

@2:54 does anyone know what mic they're using for the cab?
how does its sound?????
0.54 OUCH!
Great videos Warren! I have noticed that camera mic picks up the heavy breathing of the camera person annoyingly well on quite a few of your videos. I try to ignore it, but the sound engineer in me has trouble 'blocking it out'. The camera work is fine however. LOL Keep up the great work!

how does he put every pedal in loop?
Do you know if Sean is still using the Evil Twin? There've been a small handful of other entries into the bass-friendly DI category, and I'm wondering if he's still sticking with the industry standard.

Hi Warren, I knew all the great session bass player (not the virtuoso kind of) of the past set their string action fairly high, to get more attack, more sustain and less fret buzz. I seem your wonderful guests in all your bass player interviews set their action pretty low and don't care about sustain or fret buzz. What's your opinion as producer and sound engineer? Much appreciated.
@elmanitasdeplomo
2 жыл бұрын
Unless the strings are constantly touching a higher fret that the fretted note, I really don’t see how a low action could affect sustain. It just doesn’t make sense to me🤷🏻♂️
I did sessions for years with just a precision and whatever amp was in the studio or straight to the desk ,but I was never happy with my bass sound ,always buried somewhere in the mix ,I recorded a lot a polydor in Oxford street with engineer Carlos ohms ,different days ,but I prefer the modern effects for bass we've never had it so good

Does he really needs the DI box running short cables??? I am new in DI boxes, I am just wondering ;) Somebody can answer???
@rome8180

People say you should always use the shortest possible cable for maximum fidelity. Personally, I think it's overstated. Musicians get really obsessive compulsive about minor differences no one can possibly hear.

You don’t need to compress me.....as I go thru a tube amp (compression), a tube pre (compression), a tube dirt pedal (compression).

And I take a straight DI off his Bass (as every Engineer who knows what he's doing in the world would do), which doesn't need compression.
