@@evankelly4346 It was October 1979. It was for the premier of the movie “Meteor”. I was one month into my 13 years as host of “Good Day”, a daily, live morning show that originated in Boston and was broadcast throughout New England. From everything I have ever read about the two, Sean Connery and Roger Moore were very good, longtime friends. I honestly believe that his comment about Moonraker was not directed at Moore, but rather at the change in tone from the somewhat more grounded early Bond films to the more fantastical Moore Bond films.

Did you know that he left the audition not having gotten the role? At the time, there were many more actors with a lot more experience than he did, and even he admitted later on that he wasn't the strongest actor they auditioned. But the casting director said it had to be him, despite the higher-ups says, because she watched him leave the audition, sling his jacket over his shoulder, strike match off a lamppost and light a cigarette and walk away. She saw how everyone's attention was drawn to him; men looked at him with admiration while the women with desire and she knew that he was the man to play Bond. Because he was Bond. Just a fun fact that I love bc it's just so wonderful and impressive that he was able to achieve what he did, by simply being himself.

It was much different than Connery but still iconic and unique and for many he was Bond. I still prefer Connery's version as it was darker and the movies themselves were more in line with the 'Spy thriller' genre. Where the Moore movies were more of a 'family entertainment' vibe. Both Connery and Moore had 'classic' movie's and 'classic' movie scenes that are now the stuff of legend. Cudos to both actors for a job well done. RIP both of you.

As a bond fan from an early age, roger moore was my bond and when my parents told me James Bond was on tv I’d go watch….. once realising that it was Connery or one of the others I’d walk away not being able to fathom bond being played by another actor…….. then you grow up and realise each bond actor played their own version.. Connery Craig and Dalton were very serious whereas Moore and brosnan had a bit of tongue in cheek so maybe that’s why it appealed to me as a kid and Moore was my bond. However as an adult you watch all of them and understand they were all bloody good

I don't think it was worse or better, it was simply Roger's interpretation and I think he did well with it, as did Sean with his. I've felt that Bond movies reflect the times they were made. Like during the counterculture movement and post-Vietnam era where Bond moved more towards fighting supervillains than purely doing the bidding of the government. Then it was back to east-vs-west, greed is good, and escapism... and finally extreme realism and violence.

His observations about Moonraker are spot on. That one was the first peak of the franchise basically devolving into a sort of cartoon fantasy. Quite a contrast to the early Connery Bond movies. The second cartoon peak was Die another day. I was rolling my eyes the whole way through in the cinemas. Somehow the Cartoony level of Moonraker was charming in comparison, mostly due to the charisma of Roger versus Brosnan.
