On the axle boot install, many years ago I was shown putting boot on to use a paint paddle and make sure it is lubricated ,no chance of poking hole or tear in the boot.then just clean up the WD 40 on the tube.just saying.done it numerous times over many years.good video 😎😎😎👍👍👍

FYI they are all either brazilin or german. And they are good quality. unlike the seamed boots. Even if you get empi it is reboxed.

Hey man, Great video. I wish I saw this a couple of months back as I've just replaced my boots. But I suppose with the quality crap we seem to be supplied I'll be replacing them with in the year then I'll try putting the one piece on. Thanks for sharing. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

My late father used do them all the time at the Volkswagen dealership were he was service manager and and mechanic at but most people chosen the spit boot if the swing axle was still in the car because they didn't want pay the flat rate but if the transaxle was out he installed the 1pieces boot.

The funniest thing my late father told me about the swing axle transmission was this guy brought in just brought the transmission no axles and my father forgot which way the ring gear cameout and guy had a doublecab with4gears in reverse &1forward so my dad losen the mustache bar and pull axles and flip over with out pulling the engine and transmission.

Yes sir! I believe the gasket goes with the two little holes on the bottom but then again, that’s probably on later model transaxles. Also, there’s two thicknesses for gaskets/shims. The red ones are double the thickness of the beige ones. Also like you said the torque on the fasteners on those side plates needs to be on point. If overtightened you get the depressions and the inevitable leaks. On the more modern models we were advised to use Permatex Aviation sealer on the outside gaskets and a ring of gear oil resistant silicone around a lip that is just inside the gasket. Not sure how it is on that early model but the later models have a lip all around.

yea the holes may be on the bottom I know they are for different ones haven't done these in a while. The Mega black does wonders for any leak. Since I started using versachem Mega black I have had no leaks in anything.

Great video Mike 👍 The gaskets used to come in several "thicknesses." A little loose is okay, but being too tight is not good. I'm not sure if the various thickness gaskets are still available. Thank you for the video 🙂

I'm always looking for good shops here in So. CA. I do live close by Rancho Performance, but it's nice to have another place that comes highly recommended.
