Can you tell us what products you used and where you bought them please? The glue, the sealer and the bail. Or bale. Whatever. Thanks!

Hi Renee! I use any brand of 5-minute epoxy - the only difference I've found is the level of smell. The sealer is a generic uv resin from eBay. It doesn't have a brand but the bottle is black with a navy label and mint-coloured pictures of leaves on it. As for the bails - I use many different ones from many sources! Some are alloy, some are stainless steel or sterling silver; different shapes and styles. Any will do - I try to match the colour with the paint (silver-coloured for cool colours and copper/bronze for warm colours). I hope that helps! :)

if i wanted to attach a photo to the flat end of the cabachon could i use diamond glaze on the photo to do that and press it to the glass?

  • @13Art

Yes, you could, however be careful what glue you use to attach the photo to the glass and the photo/glass to the bezel. In my experience, if both the glues you use are water-based, the one can soften the other and cause the photo to warp. I would recommend a) testing first before using your intended photo, and b) use a water-based glue for one adhesion (eg. the photo to the cabochon) and then use a solvent-based glue (such as 5-minute epoxy) to attach the photo/glass to the bezel :) Good luck!

thank you so helpful! one more question if i wanted to layer. so say my photo is heart shaped and my cobachon is circle. and i wanted to put a solid piece of paper behind the heart shaped photo and then glaze it to adhere to cobachon, would it be okay for me to just use a gluestick to apply photo to the paper, and then apply on whole thing? is there a specific glue to use to layer different papers and photos to one cabochon ,, THANK you so much! @@13Art

Thanks for the info. I just finished using clear nail polish but I like your way much better! I have never used resin before. Is it easy to work with? Is it necessary if you dip it twice in the glue?

Barbara, the glue will glue the bail on and then the 2 outer coats will reinforce it. I think you’d need to glue it on to get that full contact between the cab and the bail.

If your gluing it in a bezel tray what technique would you do? Would you still seal the back of your image (on cabochon) or just glue directly in tray? What glue should be used to adhere the photoed cabochon(sealed or not sealed) to the tray? Thanks

Hi Jean, I don’t find it necessary to seal the back (I’ve been wearing my own jewellery for over 18 months with no issues). I use epoxy glue to glue the cabochon to the tray - There’s another video on my channel about gluing into trays 😊

Do you find dipping in the Diamond Glaze works better than painting it on? I have not dipped them in DG before only painted. Also, what is the epoxy you used. I keep getting silver spots using E600.

Hi Giselle, yes I prefer to dip because brushing it on leaves brush marks which I don’t like. Dipping leaves a smooth finish.

The epoxy is just any brand of 2-part epoxy glue. I find the brands I’ve used ti be much the same. Some have a stronger odor. Yes, my experience with E6000 is that they cause silver spots, too.

I love the trayless Cabs, where can I find the balls and what is the name of them to look up? Can the balls be use on any size pendants or do the balls come in different sizes? Thanks in advance

Hi Lily! You can get bails in a bunch of places - eBay, Amazon, AliExpress. If you're in the US you could try your local Hobby Lobby or Michael's (I'm in Australia so I can't confirm or deny!). Fire Mountain Gems or LilyDS might also be places to try. They come in different sizes - I'd recommend you use the largest one you can without it being visible from the front - the larger it is, the more contact it makes with the pendant and therefore the better support it will be. I hope that helps! :)

Celine quite possibly unless your wrapping is perfect! 😊 I tend to finish my cabs these days with uv resin - it’s much more durable to resist things such as scratches from wire.

@@13Art I have tried using multiple layers of Diamond Glaze, Triple Thick, Nail Polish...none of these really help to keep from scratching while wrapping. Which UV Resin do you use?

  • @13Art

Just a generic one from eBay. It has green leaves on the bottle, I think! Perhaps another thing to look at is your wrapping technique - is there a way you can tuck the wires in without making much contact with the back, or perhaps your hand is a little too heavy on it? Just a few thoughts :)

Hi Renee, do you mean the stuff on the end of the chopstick, that I use to hold the cab while I dip it in the sealer? In Australia it's called Blu Tac. In the US, it's called poster putty. It's for holding paper (like posters and photos) onto a wall. I'm not sure where you're from, but hopefully that will steer you in the right direction!
