America's first foreign war was the Barbary Wars in the early 1800s because we refused to pay the North African pirates a ransom to allow American shipping to pass through the Mediterranean unharassed. This has been our motto for a long time now.

I so totally agree with Ms. Shayla up there bout now watchin the actual interview with Jessica on "60 Minutes". To hear it from her perspective , with such intense emotions and 😢the unbelievable fear she must've been goin thru, it brings you to a whole different place with yer own emotions. I love my country and I love our military and it just makes me even more proud to say that I am an American citizen 🇺🇸💞🙏🏻❣️. My God bless and protect those that are protecting the freedoms of others ❣️.

It's not just that the American government, as you said, takes this kind of stuff seriously; it has the ability to do something. I wouldn't want to be kidnapped and hope for rescue from, e.g., Canada.

It depends on who has the hostage. If Russia, Iran, or China are holding hostages on the sham "arrest" then it becomes impossible to rescue them. But like in the US invasion of Panama, Delta Force entered a Panamanian prison and rescued an American. I served 21 years in the Marine Corps as an infantry officer with 3 years in combat. After I retired it is a very long story but I did end up supporting both Delta Force and Seal Team 6 with new Defense Advanced Research Program Program (DARPA) technologies on exercises across the US and the world. I can't say more than that, but I can assure you that there have been many missions by them that have never been revealed. I'm actually surprised that the government revealed the specifics of this rescue. While I have no knowledge of Delta or SEAL Team 6 actual missions, I do know about the incredible kinds of missions they prepare for on exercises. You wouldn't believe them if I were authorized to describe them. In my opinion, by comparison, the Jessica rescue was easy. I'll leave it at that.

Yes. It was pre-planned. She wasn't going to do the last training class. But her supervisor the Danish co-worker told her if she doesn't go she'll be reported and fired as an aid worker. So she went. She said she felt something was wrong because of her co-workers behavior. To this day she won't have anything to do with him. Since she was rescued from the camp where she was held hostage she hasn't seen her co-worker nor spoken to him. I recommend you watch an interview with her. There's several interviews where she gives total details of her kidnapping and rescue. Or at the least watch the 60 minutes interview.

As several people have commented, you definitely need to watch the “60 Minute” interview with Jessica discussing her experiences. When she describes the horrific experiences and the rescue, you will find yourself holding your breath hanging on every word she says. While a good overview of the situation, this video does not do justice to this terrible event. Take care and I appreciate the work you put into your videos. If by any chance you are ever kidnapped and held ransom by pirates or terrorists, say you're in bad health in your first proof of life call/video. If you say you have limited time to live, that automatically kills the negotiation process according to international law, and makes your retrieval an instant military rescue mission. The proper procedures are to first negotiate ransom payments with the international organization you work for, not with your nation's govt because govts don't negotiate with terrorists. International law states that you have to pursue negotiations first because hostage rescues are high risk operations. Hostage rescue is always the last option because your captors could always spot the forces coming to save you, and shoot you rightaway. Despite this risk, a military hostage rescue is always going to be your best option because even if your organization reaches a ransom settlement with the pirates/terrorists, it'll be 2-3 years before it ever actually gets paid out. The insurance companies do this on purpose, assuming you'll die of poor health before the 2-3 years is up. Thus, they won't have to ever actually make that large lump sum payment. There's a legitimate argument to be made that the insurance companies are just as heartless as the criminals who abducted you. That's why your best bet is the military rescue. Yes, it's very risky, but it beats the hell out of living in a cage or basement for 3 years being abused and degraded by human garbage who are drunk and high the entire time. Oftentimes taking out all their frustrations on you, angered it's taking so long to get the money.

This isn't completely accurate. There is a video where Jessica does an interview of the incident. Some of the details of the rescue she tells differently. It's a good story either way.

i mean the phrases "we all are from this one planet/we are all humans" are more about argueing for more compassion and has little to do with being naive. it's more about having a certain standart in regards of human life that should be shared across all countries. i think everyone's well aware that that's not the case right now.

The US does not pay ransoms.. ever.

The US should NEVER pay any terrorist group a ransom for an American citizen. I much prefer the "payment" these nine pirates got and I like the message that sent to other prospective kidnappers a lot more than I would like the message that the US would pay $45M ransom, which was their first demand. Pirates boarded the ship, the Maersk Alabama, and took the captain hostage. I forget how long they had him in their custody before Navy sharpshooters showed those particular pirates the error of their ways and rescued the captain. They will never board another US ship or threaten another US citizen. BTW, Jessica never said anything about someone telling her, "We are Seal Team Six". According to her, they said, "We are from the American military and we are here to take you home."

After they put her on the ground , they told that they were seal team six.

One thing to remember is they didn’t spend that much money to rescue her, they spent that much money to send a message to anyone thinking about taking an American hostage in the future.

Nothing "corny" Seal Team 6, 2 members of Seal Team 6 died 2 weeks ago. Check out what it takes be a Navy Seal. See if you can do what they do.
