My 6TB failed out of nowhere after six months of use: the internal power would not be enough for the HD to spin. For the warranty I had to send it to the other side of the world at my cost and then Lacie would decide if they would honor the warranty; then send it back also under my cost. Ended up using your video to see beforehand how to open it up and plugin it into my PC. It was the 2018 model, so it opened exactly opposite of what you show. Nonetheless it works wonders now, so I'm not buying this Lacie crap again. Cheers!

Hello Weston Price, Glad.you got it working, but keep in mind, that drives dont fail without reason and if data is important to you, be sure to back it up on another drive. Usually if, ANY storage device starts to exhibit any unusual behavior signs - it is time to replace it. Sings can be: weird noise or vibrations, randam i/o errors, crc errors, locking pc when drive is used/plugged in, abnormal times to access files or copy errors, not formatted error etc. P.S. i am not sure what is your location, but in USA, Lacie(just as a Seagate) has very good warranty policy and i have not heard of any issues with warranties. My personal experience with SEAGATE, LACIE and WD warranties was quick and easy. I did have BIG problems with Samsung (acquired by Seagate), HGST( acquired by WD) and Toshiba (acquired by WD)

I have a LaCie 4tb mobile drive, this last month the usb C port on my drive was having problems , like ejecting the drive at random times/movements and also it would be plugged in powered on and running but won't pop up on my MacBook. So I did exactly what you just did in this video and the drives are literally the same inside, I took off my usb C port that connects to the sata. Now my question is can I connect a sata to usb C cable to my drive and it will pop up on my Mac ? I did a bunch of research and even showed a IT Tech , they said its 99% just a usb C Port problem on the drive.

First, i would use brand new usb cable, if drive behave wont change, then, yes, you can pop cover open and use any other SATA to USB bridge/adapter _that_DOES_NOT_Encrypt data.

These 4TB seagate models are quite reliable, just as 5TB and 6TB, if compared vs thin models, which i do not recommend using, way to sensitive to any movements and gets damaged very easily to my opinion. Currently i would recommend 4,5,6TB for back up over other brands. They are also a bit easier to work on, if data recovery needed.

Beeping noise can be different, but usually it is an indicator of stiction - a tuck heads to the platters or heads improperly parked, that would prevent platters(motor) to spinning. Sometimes people confuse beeping noise from stiction to noise from heads scratching surface of the platters. If its not scratching platters - then it should be considered recoverable. At least to some point.

@@qubexdatarecovery thank you, that’s what I though, I checked some other videos on KZread and I found one with the exact same beeping noise and head stuck to the platter, I’m a bit scared to open it myself though...

@@SofiSo7i I do not recommend you doing it yourself unless you have tools. Tools are special forks that lift heads off the surface and allow you to move heads off the platters. This is the easy part. The hard part is modifying drive FIRMWARE to a point that allows you to read it after such damage. Seek professional data recovery if data is important. This can cost anywhere from 500$ - 3500$ depending on your location and who you will work with. If you want, i will be happy to evaluate it free of charges and without any obligations, but you obviously will need to ship drive to us. Cheers!

Well this design is made to be solid, therefore latches are quite tight and tehre is a good chance that hey will break off. Its also designed not to be re-assembled after disassembly.
