Does Seafoam actually help clean out carbon? Does it help prevent carbon?

    The piston to the left looks great . Awesome piston wash . The piston on the right looks a little rich . Look up 2 stroke piston wash .

    Well, that was totally new to me Matt I have never heard of using seafoam on any engine so I shall be very interested to see how this goes in the future.

    Wait!!! I'm not a plane guy. I play with small outboard boats, and found your channel while watching 2 stroke videos..... But it sounded like you said, you guys need to REBUILD your engine every 300hours ??? That's crazy.

    If you run seafoam in your fuel tank regularly along with your gas/oil mix then it will be constantly be cleaning your fuel system and pistons as the engine runs.

    Hello Matt. Interesting run on the Sea Foam. Back in the mid 70's I purchased my first car. A 1967 Buick Wildcat with a 430-4 barrel that would drink the gas. I always had questions about my car and working part after school for a mechanic helped with answers. Carbon was an issue and I watched him use MARVEL MYSTERY OIL, poured directly into the carburetor with the motor at high rpms. When the motor began to die he would back off on the amount going in. Talk about smoke while it is burning off the carbon it was massive, but it would get to the point where there was no smoke at all. It was at that point the piston heads were clean. I did this about every 6 mths. Helps the spark plugs as well. This is all before catalytic converters. MMO and catalytic converters dont go well together in quantities above what is recommended on the directions. MMO might be in stores there in Canada and if not one can find it in just about any auto parts store in the US. Enjoyed the video Matt. 👍👍👍

    Good work Matt. I get that crap in my AR15 rifle and nothing short of demolitions and road rage will take it off! I think I am using some aggressive solvent like Kroil or brake cleaner right now - but ya have to do that outside. It'd be nice if there was something you could use inside the house or shop and not worry about ventilation and carcinogens.

    I used to use Oven cleaner, not for airplane engine pistons, just motorbike pistons. Use to wipe the carbon straight off. In my X'Air I use A747 (Castrol), engine is spotless. No need to de-carbon. It's not the cheapest oil to use. But my engine, with 400hrs is brand new. After a recent inspection. 50:1 premix. 582. Bearings measured "as new".

    Matt, the severity of the carbon build up might depend on the type of 2 cyl oil you may be using. Some who read this might have a disagreement on this statement. If anyone uses a synthetic oil , be it Amsoil , Lucas, Royal Purple,ect. are all PAO'S which are Polyalphaolefin . I'ts the differences in there additive package in PPM ( parts per million) Higher detergency less carbon. What oil are you using?

  • @mmatt

    @mmatt

    5 жыл бұрын

    Amsoil Sabre and Dominator. I run the Dominator in the injection system and mix Sabre at 200:1 in the gas to stabilize it and add just little extra lube since I don't 100% trust the injection.

    Hi Matt. I have run Amsoil Dominator in my 2 stroke Paramotors for years and have had good results (No melt downs LOL ) so I am a fan of that oil for sure.. Quick question for you buddy, Can you fly from Woodstock to Edmundston in the Beavor with out refuling and about how long would it take you in no wind conditions?

  • @mmatt

    @mmatt

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yup, that distance is possible without re-fueling. It's just over 100 miles so with a cruising speed of 60 mph, with no wind it'd take about an hour and 45 minutes or so. Fuel burn would be in the neighbourhood of 8-9 gallons.

    Be careful spraying seafoam in your intake because it goes through your crankshaft bearings, That is how in a 2 stroke engine the crank bearings are lubricated with mixing oil in gasoline that goes through the base of your engine before it goes to the combustion chamber

    Thats not really how seafoam works, the way seafoam works is mich like using water in your motor to steam the carbon off. Seafoam is mostly kerosene which his a low flashpoint and steams violently causing the carbon to break off.

    Hi Matt, I would not do this in the gas because you might damage your gaskets and seals or any plastic hoses or parts. Blowing into the intake is not the same as actually putting it into gas. Ya don't want to make 'er skittish up in the air cuz she might dive, ya know?

  • @mmatt

    It's a 100% petroleum based product so it won't damage any of the seals, hoses, or gaskets. It says right on the bottle that it's safe for use in this manner.
