Sea Fishing a Spooky Calm Sea - Eastbourne Pier
Спорт
Its March 2024 and the Plaice were starting to show so i head for Eastbourne to enjoy some easy Sea fishing. I wasn't expecting the Conditions to produce the calmest March Sea i have ever seen!
As i talk about in the video there really is a great sense of Community here on Eastbourne Pier. There's always a few characters about and despite the Vast range of angling ability you can always pick up a few hints and tips.
Although i do enjoy the solitude and focus angling offers sometimes its nice to head for a pier and indulge in some shoulder to shoulder fishing.
Many thanks to Dave and the Pier staff they really made me feel welcome. There is a membership system for 50 a year which would benefit you if you fish more than twice a month here or in to night.

Starlings seem to tap the line on the way through- none fell down dead and i moved my rods in once that incredible murmuration arrived

Been watching your videos for a long while ,but just subscribed. Keep them coming 👍
Nice one Matt. Don't often see it that calm and not the best conditions for fishing, but to bad for plaice. At least you never blanked!
Quite surprised you fished from the upper deck ?? But having said that, I know you can pull up out of snags muscle beds a lot easier. As for the beads ? Luminous or otherwise ? If not the little bit of light possibly the movement in the water/ vibration ?? As for the mill pond 😮 Had it one day out of New Haven ( boat ) it was so still it was unnervingly earie ??? Water moving, but very dull ,no fish not even a bite and not a seagull anywhere, as quiet as the grave, never had a day like it, and never had it again since. Scary stuff 😬, even the skipper was un-eased. One hell of a day. Keep them coming mate 👍. Even if I can't get out myself it's always a pleasure to see someone else catching. Cheers mate 👍 Les.

Nice one thanks Matt! Some nice Plaice there for March. I've been thinking about getting a UV torch for luminous lure & the beads on rigs, but not bitten the bullet yet! The Pier seems a great place to fish. Stay safe & well - Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍

Hi Dave, Thanks mate- Yep a different way of using weights for me so we will see
I agree, I sit on the fence where beads and bling are concerned. I do however think that moving and dragging the bait regularly and kicking up a bit of sand and mud is very conducive to getting takes from most species. I hardly ever see people actively fishing like that . Obviously, it doesnt suit all conditions . Thoroughly enjoyed watching . Tight lines

Yep i think when they're in they're in so beads dont count. But can help us scratch out a fish maybe. Everyone one loves green and black combo for some reason

Yes indeed amazing- you could see other small flocks join the big one coming in from all angles as it got to dusk
Well that looked like a nice fish for the dihnner plate 👍🐠 I was fishing last night, 5 tings, and 1 dogfish. Weed was a nightmare at the end.

It’s actually a good spot for the youngsters too. Good place to learn - recon you could run a few sessions there
By the looks of the underside of that pier you could be swimming with the fish soon.
Great video as always when do you start the lures again ? Cheers John

Here in Sussex once the local gulley water has been and gone in May
Looked nigh on perfect for the spotties mr saltwater 🤷 good run along beach a week or two ago as well as shed loads of dabs , no two years are the same 🤔can never put my finger on it . Can’t ever make mind up about the bling either one day it’s all Elton John ✨the next Tarzan one thing I’m sure of is the odd twitch works for sure and I dont mean the personal kind ( I’m taking tablets for that anyway) thanks for sharing 👍

Do those luminous weights make a .difference? Great video as usual. Is there a lot of walking to fish on the pier as I am disabled keep up the good work Barry ,

Hi Barry / I think they will make a difference in certain conditions but more catch reports needed because that’s the first time I’ve needed them. It’s a 100m trip to the pier end plus some steps down to the lower platform. Would help to be dropped at the pier entrance as parking could be another few hundred m away at busier times
One episode of Dad's army was filmed on the lower deck. Cricket ball, and the mine one l think... 🏏🤔🇫🇷 The deck at 12.mlns 🇫🇷❤️

The pier for east fishing. If it’s open! But anywhere on the main beach is fine if they are in
From that mark cockles are a killer bait

Good video as always. 😊 oh I so miss fishing on the pier, especially if your allowed to fish on the bottom right handside ? Finally. Would love to fish it alot more. But it's too expensive to become a member and pay every time. So sad it's to expensive now such a shame 😢😢😢 Keep up the good work. I'd like to fish at the mouth of the cuckmere in summer if you fancied it?

Ahh now I got special fuming permission’s to fish that lower but! Maybe it will be open in summer it’s awaiting a health and safety thingy! Thanks I’ve fished the mouth of cuckmere before fly fishing for bass and had a schoolie - 30 years ago
Who was the unlucky bugger that had to wheel the table down the pier ;) I used to get the same flat water down babbacombe pier , was very quiet and spooky, esp at night! Still recouperating amd sorting out getting back to work then im off out with my tackle box :)

Hi Mark hope you get out soon
Looks like Yr about 300ft above sea level
A very disappointing day fishing wise but you always live in hope. I can never understand why people cast out so far when fishing from a pier. Our farm was only about 6 miles from Eastbourne and in the early 1950s I used to fish a lot from the pier but just with handline. Used to catch a lot of flatties, bass and mackrell in season. Maybe things have changed in the last 70 years, or I'm looking back through rose tinted glasses!
@SaltwaterAngler

Thanks as always tony. Casting here is a good option to both keep baits away from other anglers and utilise that tide run. With bass in summer it’s well worth casting under a pier! A big recent conger here came at distance too. Some happy memories for you there. I look through rose tinted glasses too but actually it’s more good and bad years I find. There’s days where I’d of had 10 plaice here and some other anglers who fished the first of flood had 5 fat plaice plus dabs too.
Was it packed, and also how long did it take you to travel
