Sculptra Filler Treatment for Facial Volume

Sculptra, an FDA-approved synthetic facial injection, is used for the purpose of anti-aging and correcting facial wrinkles. It is also used to stimulate collagen into your body and revitalize the collagen production. Patients will receive a series of three injections over the course of a few months that reach the deep dermis in order to connect with the strands of collagen inside the body. Minor side effects include swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching, or lumps. People with a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring are not recommended candidates for Sculptra.
Transcript:
Sculptra is so good. I look at a face now sometimes and when I see that you need Sculptra, I just can’t unsee it until I’ve told you about Sculptra. You may be here for your Botox, I’m like I have to tell you about Sculptra. What is Sculptra? Unlike dermal fillers that we use in the lips, or sometimes in the chin, or the jawline, Sculptra is a bio-stimulatory filler. It’s making you make your own collagen. The places that we see you’ve lost volume over time: cheeks, temples, jawline, this periocular space here, even in your nasolabial folds. We can correct that, all of that, with Sculptra. Usually, my rule with Sculptra is one vial per decade, but I start treating patients as young as 30 all the way up to 70, 80 years old, and that’s because it’s this very subtle, natural, delayed gratification kind of treatment. For Dr. Holman, for example, we have treated in her hairline, and it’s just kind of pulled everything up because over time, her body starts making that collagen where she’s lost it in her temples, and it just kind of gives her this nice, not a face lift, but it pulls everything back, it opens things up. For athletic younger patients, it’s a great treatment for your temples where you start to get a little bit hollow, if you’ve noticed that. I think I heard a trainer one time, a doctor call it “peanut face”, not very nice. But he’s talking about that deepness that you get here, the hollow in the temple. Cheeks, it’s a great correction. Underneath your nose we start to lose volume right through here. These are things that maybe you don’t look in the mirror and specifically say, “I’m losing volume in my pure form aperture.” Dr. Holman and I can look at you and say, “We know what would make a huge difference, but something so subtle that it would take 6-8 weeks to even see that difference.” Sculptra is ideal where you come in and you say, “I want a very natural correction, but I want an overall correction,” because when we do a Sculptra treatment, I've got enough product that I can do an overall correction. I can look and say, “Okay you need a little bit here, you need a little bit in your cheek, you need a little bit in that periocular space.” The cool thing about Sculptra, so again different than those HA fillers which are kind of what everybody thinks of with fillers, with those fillers you walk out, you’re as full as you’re gonna be, and then it’s gonna decline depending on the product over nine to kind of fifteen months. With Sculptra, you’re gonna walk out and be like “I look awesome!” and then two or three days later when swelling and stuff has gone down you’re gonna go “And where did it all go.” And that’s because it’s going to be your collagen that fills in these areas. But, because of that there’s a few things that of course as a dermatologist, we love about that. Because kind of in this dermatology world, we’re looking for very natural corrections, non-surgical corrections. When you build your collagen, guess what, it’s your collagen. A lot of times, we’re gonna start folks off with a series of three treatments to really get this great overall correction. And then, it may be every two to five years we are doing one treatment, just to top off that collagen gas tank essentially. I love, one of my patients told me she was coming in for her Sculptra treatment, and she said, "My husband asked me where I was going. I said, I’m going to get some fertilizer.” It’s so true. I know, and that’s really what it is. You’re, you know, building your own stuff, but the other thing when you’ve done a series of Sculptra, your skin looks fabulous. The collagen glow. Yes, everything looks shiny and new, and it’s just a natural lift because again, we’re replacing where the aging is happening. We’re not just chasing lines through there. We’re saying why do you look tired? Why don’t you look like you did before you lost that weight? That kind of stuff too. We’re replacing those areas.

Sculptra can create nodules (granulomas) especially if someone has an autoimmune disease. It is bad that these side effects are intentionally skipped in such videos for marketing /sales reasons.. These side effects are well mentioned to all practitioners trained to inject Sculptra and it’s a serious risk to take into account

If injected in the jawline , will it make it look wider ? I'm worried it might especially since my masseter muscles are on the larger side to begin with.

I finally found someone to do Sculptra in my jawline and cheeks last week. But it was extremely painful. The cannula or needle going through is what hurt the most I don't know if it's supposed to be like that or if he wasn't doing it correctly. I kept my cool but it was very painful and I was exhausted afterwards

Immediate onset nodules have several causes with Sculptra. The product may not have been massaged enough at home, injected too superficially, or these may be knots of deep bruising where the needle or cannula was inserted. Nodules of product after Sculptra are not uncommon, most are not immediate and typically self resolve. Your Sculptra injector should be comfortable with the treatment of these nodules if they are noticeable, painful, or bothersome to you. However, the vast majority of injectors will not address any filler irregularities for 2 weeks as these are often related to swelling and the trauma of injection and self resolve. Any nodules that are hot, painful, have drainage of bad smelling material, or red streaking may be infectious and should be addressed immediately by your injector but these are very rare.

You said 1 vial per decade. So 3 consecutive treatments, approximately 3 vials? That's an average amount?

I had Sculptra injected deep into my temples that left me with big nodules that look like horns. My doctor flushed them with saline 3 times with no improvement. Recently she treated them again with a cocktail of hyaluronidase and steroid with no improvement. Can you please recommend anything else to dissolve them? I'm desperate and crying daily from this deformity 😭😭😭

This sound like abnormal collagen formation it turns into little nodules under the skin, and it will have to be surgically removed and a biopsy has to be done to make sure is nothing serious. Why is your doctor wasting time trying to dissolve it if it isn't fillers? Can you really trust this doctor? And please ''out'' whoever did your Sculptra treatment to save other people from the same nightmare, it is a simple but very serious treatment and it has to be done by someone who understands that if they make a mistake the person will have to deal with it for years and even go under the knife to ''fix it''.

Sculptra is NOT a 'muscle relaxer' nor a 'filler. Sculptra is a 'volumizer' with multiple treatments needed to obtain optimal results. It has amazing results when used correctly and in the appropriate patients. Botox/Dysport/Sculpra and all other fillers have their purpose and different functions if used correctly.
