Mokume Gane is a Japanese method of manipulating metal to achieve a wood grain appearance. Polymer clay artists have borrowed from this art form to create magnificent patterns. The results are beautiful and impressive - and it's easier to make than you might think. We'll show you three techniques and ideas of what you can create using these incredible designs.
Premo Sculpey and other Sculpey polymer clays are available at www.dickblick.com/brands/sculp...

When making the pens, remove the ink cartridge before baking. Bake at 250° for 15 minutes. Once they have cooled, you can reninsert the ink cartridge.
I have been purchasing items from Dick Blick since High School, over forty years, and have never been disappointing. Thanks for all the tips and tricks!
Excellent video. Very informative and professionally produced. The instructor is relaxed and effective; I have seen other videos that take 3 times as long and give, maybe, a quarter of the information-with "uhm" and "er" every sentence, along with extraneous information. I hope they have more videos that are this good!
I love your polymer clay tutorials- they are fast paced but very detailed. I love this technique (along with the mica shift technique) and I can't wait to think of a project to try this out on :) Thanks for the upload!
Thats one of the coolest things I have ever seen! WOW ! Cant wait to try it.
This is great and she is a pro. I love the way she explains the instructions.
Thank you for this great tutorial! I have been trying to master this technique with not much success...but now I feel like I can with your helpful info.! Premo is my favorite clay as well!!
Again.....Thank you for making this SO easy to understand.
OH WOW!! that is amazing..... I`m just going to give this a try, thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you for the tutorial.

Your work is so great!! I know how complicated it can be… Looking forward to see more tutorials :)
wow i love the last one!
"now for the fun manipulation part" I've never heard that sentence before XD Love This Channel!
awesome tutorial thank you!!
Amazing
Great video. Thanks!
OK I definitely have to try this!! I'm already thinking of cool colors to use for my dragons I make! :D
LOVE this! Very much wishing I hadn't gotten rid of my pasta machine. Now going to search for a used one to buy.
@cullennclann Yes - once you make your project, follow the directions on the package and bake it in an oven or toaster oven so it becomes hard and permanent.
thanks for sharing
very cool!
that is cool
I tried the first one and it was a success i love it, now for the second one I would like to know the name of the orange color used in this tutorial is beautiful but it does not look blinding bright thanks.
so beautiful ! ty for explaining :)
this is soo cool:)...but i have a question how do you cover the mokume gane in a bead or in a pendant?
@KissMyChristin Yes, you can roll the clay with a roller instead, the pasta machine just makes it easier to achieve a consistent thickness
Stephanie Merritt If you do not have a pasta machine, you may also use a rolling pin. Place your clay between two sheets of wax or parchment paper to prevent sticking. You may also purchase a pasta machine on our website, dickblick.com!
This is my very favorite video, Thanks for sharing
all I have to say is wow:-) and thank you!!
That was amazing, how beautiful!!!!! I'm definitely going to try this, it's so artistic. Thank you so much.
you are so smart help you do it its look so hard at the beginning but you can do it
@creativegirl42 The last color that was used was white
SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when you use the pasta machine to flatten the clay is there a way to flatten it without the machine ?
Where do you get your blades/ metal cutting tools from?
The company is Blick Art Materials and you can access our website by clicking on the link in the video description or on our Channel page.

were can you buy that pasta machine?
@20micky01 im not sure but I think that a doller does pretty much the same thing with more work
@SuDesigns It is best to contact our Product Information experts at info @ dickblick . com or 1-800-933-2542 to discuss your project details and questions. They are a great resource!
can u make a mokume gane cane?
but how can you bake the pen later? won't the plastic melt and the ink get damaged somehow?
Any one plz tell me the web from i can buy this clay nd machian plz any one
What is the textersheet?
Wow
Only certain pens can be used and you would take the ink cartridge out before baking. Make sure to contact our Product Information team for more information at: info @ dickblick . com or call 800-933-2546.
so trying this.
@KissMyChristin I remember watching a tutorial where a guy ended up using two pencils side by side with the clay in between to get consistent thickness without using a pasta machine. I think it can be done with other similar objects with flat surfaces--it's basically a barrier to stop your roller at a certain thickness.--haven't played with my own clay enough yet to see how successful it is though.
im going to do this.....with fimo
I realize this video is quite old but here goes. I am conditioning clay for the very FIRST time right now. I had this video running in the back ground when I looked over a few times to get a visual of what you were working on. I admire the pendant shown at the beginning of the second half (colors turquoise, brown, and orange with gold leaf). Would you give me more information please? How did you get to the pendant completion? Perhaps you cut it from the larger piece you were working on off to the side with a solid brown slab bottom with gold leaf applied to a section then use a cutter to cut out the pendant shape? It appears though from the side of the pendant that it has several layers of the colors as they were just after you shaved off the top only it had a layer of gold leaf added? I look forward to your response. Subscribed and off to more videos by BLICK ART MATERIALS..Thank you so very much for your time.

+Janice Francis The triangle shaped pendent was made from the block that the demonstrator is shaving the thin pieces from. Once she had shaved off the desired amount of clay to review the pattern or colors she wants, she then cut that thick piece into the triangle form. That triangle was then applied to a larger piece of conditioned, flattened piece of polymer clay that had gold leaf applied to the edges. Once they were attached it was fired as one piece. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain in detail how this pendant was achieved and a contact for further information if I have any questions. It won't be about this pendant though as you did a great job!.
@KissMyChristin if u have a big shot (used for embossing and die cutting) u can put it through there and it works quite well!
sculpey is a harder polymer clay that might might make you hands sore if your starting out and has a smaller selection of bright colours (more natural colours that are AWESOME), fimo is soft and has a better selection of bright colours but lacks a good natural selection. fimo also is more expensive and has a fimo soft line and classic fimo. fimo's naming system and is much easier to follow but sculpey is a little harder. i recommend both!
PsyCheDeliCCCCCCCCCCCCC!I love it!
Hi, below we responded to a very similar question: Only certain pens can be used and you would take the ink cartridge out before baking. Make sure to contact our Product Information team for more information at: info @ dickblick . com or call 800-933-2546.
I didnt expect for when i rolled mine out at the thinest setting, it turned out to be like 4, 3 feet long!!! it was CRAZY!! when I stacked it up, its like a mountain!!! :) try it everyone :D
ありがとう! ;)
Fimo and Sclupey are both brands of polymer clay.
i just tried the first one and it didn't work for me :/
fimo is a brand of polymer clay that you can buy
What if you don't have a pasta machine?

+Aaron Ewy You can still do this technique if you don’t have a pasta machine. Instead use as rolling pin or your hands to make the thin sheets to be layered. You can also condition the clay by simply working it in your hands. It just may take longer. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
i think that fimo is a little bit more firm and expensive than the sculpey.
what if you have no pasta michine

Place the clay on a smooth hard work surface. You can use a rolling pin to flatten the clay. First place thin strips of wood on both sides of the clay. Place your rolling pin on top of the strips. This will give you a consistent thickness.
I would use a hammer for the texture sheet.
4:50 and even scrap clay becomes useful!! :)
Lol this reminds me Of that one commercial. I take a. Sheet in. The street
