i think that’s just relative, they looked like that in pikmin 3, but the default spacesuits in 4 are so much more detailed that they look simpler in comparison

Apparently in-gamewise the castaways' spacesuits must be really sturdy and the "glass" around their helmet must be unbreakable because while I was contending with the Waterwraith in Engulfed Castle, it rolled over a person with no damage 😅.

It’s very funny when they cure Olimar and set off back home without... curing the other leafling first. Probably cutscene restrictions, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Yonny wanted to see what happens to leaflings in space... or if he wanted to experiment on them back home.

They actually mention this at one point. The plan was to drop off everybody at the nearest starport, then warp right back to PNF-404 to continue looking for castaways and leaflings. It sounds like it wouldn't have taken more than a day.

FYI the glow pikmin you had in the dandori battle came from the item you used at 16:55, which spawns in 5 glow pikmin for you.

Quick note - before going into the postgame area proper, you're REALLY going to want to do Shipwreck Tale. It'll help tons with some of the more Pikmin 2-y elements of the game that will be coming up.

Quick note scruffy. The moldy bulborbs and sleuches are actually infected by the fungus. You'll find the culprit soon enough as well.

Fun music facts! all of the areas in the Olimar’s shipwreck tale have themes that are a combination of a pikmin 1 area theme and the theme for the current area. The Sun-speckled terrace is a combo of the areas theme and the Impact-site. I’ll let you discover the rest. Also, there’s similar enemy placement as in pikmin 1. And lastly, that music for leafy showdown is a combo of the final trial and the plasm wrath theme. Though the plasm wraith theme is only in the bass. Also, the Pikmin can sing this theme after you complete it

My father introduced me to Pikmin when I was young. *Really* young. I recall having to have him help me beat the Beady Long Legs because my little kid hands weren't *big* enough to run around AND throw pikmin, lol Tons of fond memories. I played the first game and was hooked. For life, I'm gonna be with this silly little plant series. ...last year, my dad got diagnosed with ALS. A particularly aggressive strain. He's still kicking, but... he doesn't have long left. We've come to accept this, but it still stings. I made sure to only play this game whenever he was able to watch. This series, this song, this love is what I'll remember him by. That way, any time I hear this song again, I can reflect. this credits theme is a masterpiece

I highly advise you to explore and complete any and all unlocked alternative game modes and mini games BEFORE finishing the next area(s) and especially the final boss. You'll get rewards for all those side quests, but if you already beat the last stage / collected everything, those rewards would sadly be useless to you even though they're pretty neat imo. So if you want to do everything anyway and be able to make use of your rewards for doing so, don't proceed with the epilogue too quickly ;)

Seconded. I didn't explore the side content until after the main epilogue, and played through the whole game again to do it the other way around (and because this is a damn good game)

I’m starting to suspect forgetting that Oatchi can knock things off from high places is a universal experience

i love that, if you have another leafling besides olimar, the rescue corps just collectively forget about them and only cure them when you come back after the credits

Im just imagining olimar waiting there for days or weeks in there so he can make a dramatic entrance.

The main thing I'm curious about is how he sustains himself in there 🤔 Leaflings make one think of Pikmin, and with Pikmin, I think I've heard that they don't eat, instead getting energy from photosynthesis and using defeated creatures solely for reproduction using the Onion What I'm getting at is that Olimar as a leafling probably survives through photosynthesis, but he's literally inside a box when he's waiting for you, so he's not getting any sunlight 🤔 Then again, down in the cave, there's light, so maybe it's a hidden outdoor area, or there's artificial light? Idk, but you get my point lol

Interesting to note about the cards is that they are randomly generated with their number, it's unlikely to be the same number for every single playthrough, if not the combination itself.

I absolutely cannot wait for the next night expedition. For reasons.

AHHH we've finally reached the epilogue! Honestly feels as long as the first half of the game and I can't wait to see Scruffy enjoy it just as much

Hey scruffy, now that you’re in the epilogue, I HIGHLY recommend finishing the shipwreck tale before continuing the main story. It’s very enjoyable and it leads the way to other content that will be useful in the epilogue.

It's so funny to compare the "main campaign" and "postgame" of Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 4--in 2 it made sense that Olimar would've left immediately after having enough Treasures to pay off Hocotate Freight's debt, but in 4 I still had like 4 Leaflings to cure and we just kinda left for no real reason 😅 Also Louie jumpscare in the credits is HILARIOUS. Somehow, he always returns.

To answer your question on saving leaflings, I believe you only have to cure Bernard to unlock the fourth area and Olimar to finish your mission. Given that Bernard will always be the leafling you rescue from your third battle with Olimar, and leaflings you rescue from battles will skip to the front of the line for cures, you would only need to cure four leaflings to beat the game. This does mean that you will need to do at least one night mission outside the first area as their are only three cures in the first area, but if you saved the third mission in the first area you could use it to cure Olimar.

Finishing olimar's tale is definitely worth doing before beating the game, it gives a good reward in the long run - granted you maintain sanity.

Olimar's shipwreck tale is basically Pikmin 1, but you gotta be fast to win, as the days are shorter (I'm guessing regular days are 18 minutes while Olimar days are 13 minutes). I love how they put the whole of Pikmin 1's essence in the game just as a side mode. The reward for beating it is also so worth it. There's so much content in this game, I love it

i really hope scruffy does "the bulblax thing" with the swallow ability

I love Olimar's Shipwreck Tale. Just the mere fact they included it at all was really exciting to me. It's a great nostalgic nod (I'm not even a Pikmin 1 nut), it's a good and very replayable extra challenge that also comes in at a great time to break up the game's pace and from a developer perspective, it's a fantastic way to recycle content already in the game that doesn't feel cheap or flat. It adds a whole bunch of value to the game.

Watching an episode of Scruffy’s Pikmin every other day has been such a treat! Actually, you’re the reason why I even know about the Pikmin series!!!

You will want to complete olimar's mode as soon as you can- it gives you the chance for some very nice rewards. I'd recommend saving the rest of the campaign for after you do olimar's side story

the "ending" cutscene is so much funnier if you dont save all the castaways in the 4 areas before it. You find Olimar and just bail on everyone else.

I can confirm, you CAN cure Olimar with a mission from an earlier area. My most recent playthrough I rushed through, and you only need to cure 3 or 4 leaflings total.

Scruffy loves overthinking stuff, huh? Dunno why he didn’t think to rush Oatchi into the cushion for those five raw materials lol

I’m honestly perplexed how they give an entire credits sequence for what I consider to be the halfway point of the game instead of one ending followed by an epilogue (but with that music, I’m definitely not complaining)

"let's practice some dandori here" they say as they get rid of a couple pikmin and no longer have enough for their main task

I think it would be more accurate to say that the Moldy Dwarf Bulborb and Moldy Slooch are a result of the mold infesting the creatures in question, rather than mimicry.

A fun theory avout the credit scene: First, during the day, we have pikmin. They're scared off by some monsters, symbolizing a higher "level" of might in the exo system. As the night goes on, the monsters vanish and Glow Pikmin appear, as they're above the monsters with how resistant they are, how strong their glowmob is and how they're technically always "reborn". And last Louie comes, King of Bugs, the ultimate lifeform. Devourer of everything that lives and holds dear to the own planetary existance. And then comes Moss, just like Oatchi and [REDACTED] being the combination of it all. Helper, attacker, beast and king of the world. A display in the progression of power if you will and Louie being pretty far at the top.

First time I did the final battle, I had a strange glitch where I got on Oatchi and couldn't move anymore, so I had to use Go Here commands to get anywhere, but even despite that I won somehow, even after Oatchi was defeated since I couldn't shake off Olimars Pikmin

I just have to say thank you for uploading these, the pikmin 4 playthrough always makes my mornings better!

Little things like olimar’s safety bulletin just make this the best

I don't know if I'd even _actually_ consider Olimar's rescue as the end of story mode haha. It's like the Louie's rescue part of Pikmin 2 -- it might be after the first showing of credits, but it sure as heck is part of the intended play. By that I mean, if you play a pokémon nuzlocke, the victory is at beating the elite 4, but a deathless pikmin 4 run? You ain't stopping at Olimar.

Essentially, Olimar jumps to the front of the line as soon as you rescue him, unlike the rest of the leaflings which are cured in order. So it could be any area you visit at night to get him cured.

The safety bulletin killed me. I _knew_ you were going to geek out over the pikmin 1 remixes :D The giant sheergrubs are absolutely terrifying. Me, crying as you miss the base location right next to the onion and run all the way across the map? No...never... Team continue the shipwreak tale btw. Do go to the second location first thing when you do!

olimars shipwreck tale has some great music; but something i saw in a reddit post the other day is that on the final day; the musics speed is a bit faster; but at sunset during the day the music becomes noticably slower... its kind of disturbing honestly; it really hammers in how olimar feels and the slower lower pitched versions of the usually cheerful songs; it really feels like youve lost

Scruffy now that you have olimar, you have olimar information in the piklopedia! And do not read what olimar says about the jumbo bulborb.(but if you do, record it)

Oh boy, we actually get to "hear" the entirety of Olimar's story? That's pretty exciting!

There is something very moving about how Olimar, even when fully consumed by Dandori, was still driven to try and return to his family. That despite it all, his heart remained. It's also very moving that the entire Rescue Corps (and a sizable crowd of castaways) all decided to turn the entire ship around just to save Oatchi! (To be fair, seeing him all distressed was heartbreaking!) Doesn't matter what species they are - no friend is to be left behind! While I wish we got to see more the mechanical details of the S.S. Dolphin (or how fancy it's upgrading/self-repairing sequences were), seeing a full homage to Pikmin 1 in Olimar's little recounting of this retconned story is wonderful, complete with all the music and everything else! I guess the revamped design is supposed to be more mechanically sound - the original design of the S.S. Dolphin really was just a bunch of pipes surrounding a rectangular core of some kind. At least we get to hear Olimar's original whistle after all this time! I highly recommend hearing Olimar's full retelling ASAP! Turns out, he might be keeping himself busy with some useful handiwork as he recounts his adventure...

I won't get into specifics because of spoilers, but there's something unlocked when you finish Olimar's story. Having beat the game, I highly recommend completing Olimar's story and the thing that comes after it prior to completing all of the caves in the next areas.

Fun fact (spoilers): the koppaites are related to the pikmin 3 characters. One is alph's brother, the veterinarian is related to a famous botanist (Brittany) and the last one once worked with captain Charlie.

in my playthrough, it was so near the end of the day by the time i beat the dandori battle that i had to take an extra day just to bring olimar home because he was just out of reach of the Beagle by the time the countdown ended

When the Demo opened with the Olimar tutorial, and he was flying the Dolphin, I smiled so wide. When Louie appeared in the first credits, I laughed and was a bit concerned. When I started Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, I felt my over two decades of love for this series be acknowledged and rewarded.

The end memorials will always be so heartwarming, 10/10 bro

Also the increased bug sizes may be because of increased oxygen levels in the air (most bugs breath through their body so more surface area is better for oxygen intake). So it may be theres more trees than before in pikmin 1? Maybe PNF404 is recovering?

I’d really love to see you play through the shipwreck tale all at once before continuing the main story, I just love that side mode so much (so far)

one of the notable things about olimars shipwrecked tale is that the days are SHORT, one olimar day is only 11 minutes iirc the shortest day of any pikmin game

The first day of Olimar's Shipwreck Tale is always the hardest.

I honestly prefer that scruffy has a dandori issue bc it’s more interesting and cool seeing him work through the puzzles

Now that youre this far, i would recommend doing olimars side story(and what you unlock after doing it) first before doing the main post story. More less because the unlocks rewarded by it are useful for doing a couple thing in the post, while the unlocks done by post only are there to improve dandori scores for making platinum easier and serve almost no purpose in the side story. I wished i had known this before doing it myself since i did the reverse.
