Superman was trying to get Lobo out of the city, lure him away so he didn’t cause anymore harm to Metropolis. Unfortunately Lobo caught up. Also when Manhunter faked his death Superman couldn’t move at all, having just been drained of all his energy and left at deaths door. Simply put neither Parasites accident or Manhunters seeming demise were caused by Superman.

Superman may be my favourite superhero, but Lobo is definitely one of my favourite characters in DC. *Fun Fact:* Stan Lee's favourite DC character was actually Lobo. Lobo actually did kill his entire race, called the Czarnians just for fun. He can also break the fourth wall just like Deadpool and is basically making fun of the edgy and dark age of comics in the '90s. Btw one of my absolute favourite DC animated films is definitely *Superman vs The Elite (2012)* although the animation is pretty cartoony, I can guarantee that the mature story, message and characters all make up for it and the characterisation of Superman is incredible, the film honestly reminds me every time why Superman is personally my favourite superhero. I would definitely recommend it, in addition to *Superman and Batman: Apocalypse* , *Superman: Unbound* , and *All-Star: Superman*

@@KSSKAYDEE Right. I am shocked at how underrated the film is, as it truly understands Superman and everything he stands for, just a nice simple guy, wanting to help everyone not because he has a responsibility to or because of some philosophy, but because he can, he will always see the best in us all and knows that we can all be better versions of us. It also gives a good explanation why Superman does not kill (despite what some people and filmmakers may perceive), and The Elite truly act as the antithesis to Superman's morals and compassion, crossing line's that Superman wouldn't because they, especially Manchester Black, believe humanity is far too cynical to keep living in the past all based of their own transgressions and grim pasts. Superman's speech at the end ia definitely my favourite scene, and gives me chills everytime.

It's not ever Superman it was supposed to be an altruistic figure that matched up the ideal of the concept of Superman, then he should have made it a little less "subtle" and little more obvious for everyone."_ Yes, here we go; Zack Snyder's Clark Kent: * Saves about ten kids and a bus driver from drowning * Protects bullies from his own wrath (instead taking it out on a chain link fence post) * Lets Jonathan Kent sacrifice himself and die in a tornado (to protect mankind from possible global devastation his secret becoming public knowledge might cause) * Saves rig workers trapped inside rig * Saves rig workers and helicopter crew from collapsing rig * Tries to protect a waitress from harassment by drunk trucker * Protects drunk trucker from his own wrath (instead taking out years of frustration on said trucker's truck) * Saves Lois Lane from a robot * Saves Lois from internal bleeding * Chooses to protect mankind by surrendering (and making sure Lois isn't mistreated by the military) and willingly being handed over to General Zod * Saves Lois from plummeting to Earth in a damaged space-pod * Protects Martha from Zod's wrath (in a reckless way that endangers Smallville) * Tells the locals of Smallville to get inside * Saves fighter pilot from Faora * Saves soldier falling out of helicopter * Saves Colonel Hardy from Faora * Saves Earth's mankind by destroying the World Engine (fully aware he would be weakened in its presence) * Protects Lois, Hardy and Hamilton from Zod firing at plane they're in by ramming himself into scout ship * Chooses to wreck the scout ship (including the Genesis chamber, possibly the last hope for the Kryptonian bloodlines) for the sake of Earth's mankind * Saves Lois from falling to her death * Is almost sucked into the singularity while holding Lois and does not toss her to save himself * Protects as many as he can from Zod by keeping Zod's focus on himself (Zod having sworn to kill everyone on the planet) * Saves Earth's mankind (again) by killing Zod (since he can't exactly sit on a fellow Kryptonian until one of them dies of old age) But please tell me more about how he's a non-altruistic figure that doesn't match up to the "ideal of the concept of Superman" or how, if Snyder wanted his Superman to match it, he could have been "less subtle and more obvious" about it. How many more "saves" and "protects" exactly do you want on the above list? I ask, because clearly saving nearly 8 billion humans and all other non-Kryptonian life on Earth from terraforming and then five minutes later saving nearly 8 billion humans from death at Zod's hand, that was no never mind to you. _"Meanwhile you have him do entire interviews about how hopeful, optimistic, and bright people are aren't realistic they're lame."_ I don't care the least about interviews. Art stands on its own. What George Lucas says about Luke Skywalker or whatever is peripheral stuff. _"But I just can't imagine his Superman save making out of the tree, or just talking to someone who's depressed on a street, or just showing up to a children's hospital just because."_ Yeah, in real life if I had Kryptonian powers I wouldn't either, I'd be too busy. Read Astro City #1 if you don't know what I mean. Like I say to someone else here, to have Superman's powers and a good heart in a realistic reality would weigh very heavy on you. _"He's too enveloped in the whole Messiah image of Superman, and not the Humane aspects of him."_ Honestly I disagree. Man Of Steel has three heavy-handed Messiah "winks" (which isn't new, Superman The Movie did it, Superman II does it, the Director Cut of Superman II goes a weird place with it and Kingdom Come did it) but I don't see where you're getting "non-humane" and I don't see how the "winks" interfere with altruism, it's not like Jor-El is king of the paradise half of the Phantom Zone and promising Superman to be the prince of it if he guides the Earthlings well or something. And it's not like the "winks" made me feel "Hey, if I go to church I'll be more equipped to be like Snyder Superman!"

@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps √=good job no issues there 1. Saving the kids was a *√* (Johnathan Kent, however, deserves a punch in the face for his statement). 2. Doesn't attack bullies and controls his anger *√* (where was this when I get to point 7?) 3. This is not a positive. If you actually sit there and time out the Tornado, Clark could’ve reasonably gotten to Jonathan without using his powers or exposing himself. That was the most nonsensical and stupidly contrived way to kill off Johnathan Kent. Then again, good riddance, because this was the most imbittered and cynically depressing version of Jonathan Kent I've ever seen. The man who is supposed to inspire hope in Clark, instead prolonged his greatness and left decades worth of emotional trauma. This should’ve been written better. 4. Saves rig workers trapped inside rig. *√* 5. Saves rig workers and helicopter crew from collapsing rig *√* 6. Tries to protect a waitress from harassment by drunk trucker. Good on him *√* 7. A key component of Clark Kent’s character, which he exemplifies as Superman, is that he’s always the bigger man in the room, even when he doesn’t want to be (aside from obvious exceptions). He shouldn’t have needed that Waitress to stop him from retaliating, and he shouldn’t have destroyed the driver’s truck. He’s not an angsty teenager and he shouldn’t have petty anger issues at his age. Also, how did no one see or hear the truck being destroyed in the middle of the night? 8. Saves Lois Lane from a robot *√* 9. Saves Lois from internal bleeding *√* 10. Willingly gets arrested. *√* (However, I do have a problem with Synder’s continual framing of Superman not viewing himself as a human. It’s one thing to have Clark feel like an outsider because of his powers, but a core aspect of the character is his need and desire to belong and that he views EARTH as his home. It was nice to know about his heritage, and of course he was happy to know where he came from and that his birth parents loved him, but that just makes him view himself as an earthling/”Terran”) 11. Saves Lois again *√* 12. Protects Martha *√* 13. Tells the locals of Smallville to get inside *√* 14-16. Saves people *√* 17-20. Saves the world *√* 21. That’s a very interesting way to reframe it, because let’s be honest. That slugfest through Metropolis is pure spectacle. I don’t have the emotional bandwidth to do Olympian levels of mental gymnastics to justify Synder forgetting that even a new amateurish Superman would try to divert the battle away from a highly populated area. It should’ve been reframed as Zod purposefully keeping the battle in the city and Superman trying to stop him, but that’s NOT what happened. 22. Based on how the movie was up to this point, he genuinely didn’t have a choice and I get that. But they shouldn’t have written themselves into a corner by having Superman directly kill another living being in his first movie. 23. The most altruistic thing he was protecting the citizens of Smallville, turning himself into the Government so that he could be handed over to the Kryptonians, and saving those oil workers. Superman saved Martha because it’s his mother. Superman saved the world, because he was put in a situation where he had little choice but to do so. In fact, the entire conflict with the Kryptonians was more of a reactionary response to a threat. Here’s the thing that you seem to have missed, it’s not just helping people during the big stuff, it’s the smaller stuff too. “Superman is what I [Clark] Can do, Clark Kent is who I [Superman] am.” Clark is light, he is inspiration, he is hope, he’s the best of humanity and he wouldn’t treat everything like a needless chore. MoS showed Clark’s vulnerability as a child/teenager, but they never showed his hopefulness or compassion/humanity once he became an adult. The best part of Superman in that whole movie, was the ending (though I don’t think he should’ve destroyed drone, he should’ve casually given to back to them. That would’ve been a more in character power move). Had they continued with sequel with a superman who is helping, even with a few small problems (when he has the time), then I’d be more on board. Instead, we got BvS. 24. I love Astro City, but that’s a different sort of tale. It doesn’t matter how unrealistic it is, the light and hope that Superman inspires by just being kind and being there (not just because you need him to battle a supervillain, alien, or monster) is a core part of the character. And that’s often counterbalanced by his humanity. Also, it has been shown that not being there and not doing enough does weigh on his heart, but his will is so unbreakable that it doesn’t stop him from trying. 25. The difference is framing. Humans placing Superman on a Jesus-like pedestals is nothing new. But the key is to balance that out by showing Clark’s human aspects and his desire not to be viewed as such. He’s superman, but he’s not a god. Synder continually ignores this and frames Clark only as Kal-El the Kryptonian looking down on anyone that isn’t in his immediate circle. But what’s worse, he does carry around some of his arrogance. As for Elseworld stories like Kingdom Come, they're the exceptions not rule. I hate Joss Whedon’s JL, but the one good scene he added was when those kids did a vlog interview with Superman (minus that horrible mustache CGI, seriously it’s god awful). It’s little moments that which Snyder is missing, causing his Superman to feel hollow.

Keep in mind the evil superman stories are not canon or in any of the mainline stories. There have been times where superman lost everything but still stayed good. The problem is dc used those off stories so much (mostly thaks to the popularity of the injustice games) that alot of casual fans think they're the mainline versions. Seriously you'd be surprised how many people treat injustice as canon.

It's like she can only see Superman from previous movies she's seen him in an even with this being almost like a Superman Year One type movie she is not giving him the same leeway that she gave Bruce/Batman to make mistakes and try and do/be better. From the beginning she has lambasted Clark and blamed him the entire movie, any character is supposed to have flaws (especially one who is basically a God trying to be a human ) it's just odd to me because any character dissected is wholly flawed but it feels like only Supes gets the lashing IMHO.

Interesting you mentioned rock because Lobo is such a fan of rock music that he forced a couple of alien surgeons to install a mini radio device in his head so that he could listen to a rock station playing heavy metal all the time! And then he killed those surgeons 😜 Lobo is basically DC's answer to Wolverine, is an intergalatic bounty hunter, has a healing factor & can regenerate & he actually killed his own people & race! In the comics he did it because he wanted to be the only one of his kind, he saw himself as special & in the (Bruce Timm) Timmverse DCAU his reason was because he did it as a science project in school & he gave himself an A for it 😜

Those are great DC animated films and really great Superman films, especially Superman vs The Elite. Even though I really do love this film as a Superman film, I do think many people and member's of the general audience really tend to get the wrong impression of Superman as so many writers and filmmakers view the character to lack complexity because he is a kind, wholesome and simple person. Don't get me wrong I like it when they do something new like in the Injustice games or Zack Snyder's Superman, but most of the time I think a lot of people lose track of what makes him special and that cynicism towards the character is constantly reflected onto some of his interpretations in media. Many people argue that the character is too overpowered, too campy, too cheesy, not cool or complex enough, just boring, and even though I fully respect and can understand the viewpoint of those statements, I just think sharing such a predictable, cynical viewpoint is outdated and resembles that of his archenemy Le Luthor. I often think to myself about how much the character has taught me in my life, even during my own mental health issues with my own social anxiety and chronic depression, the character always reminds me to be hopeful and to try to be better. Superman constantly believes in all of us and never gives up to help us see the best in ourselves, going out of his way to tell a troubled, suicidal teenage girl that everything is going to be okay, and yet many see this as not compelling. Of course, if you don't like Superman, that is completely fine, of course, not everyone is going to love the character, but deep down I love Superman and despite what other people might say, or how the character is represented in media or even when the very film studio who was the character admits to having no clue what to do with him, I will still keep on being hopeful and try to be better because that is what Superman taught me. Now more than ever will the world always need Superman.

@@milkiassamuel780 I agree with you for the sentimental parts of your comment, stating how superman has helped you through tough times and I do resonate with your words on that level. In my opinion I just think it’s hard for audiences and directors to relate to Superman is mostly due to balance (between him being a goody-two shoes and a violent dictator) so I feel like once we find that balance between the two we will have an amazing Superman in live action media.

  • @milkiassamuel780

    @milkiassamuel780

    2 жыл бұрын

@@Extravaganzza I agree. I feel like so many directors like to change the integrity of the character so many times because of certain creative visions for the character and how they would rather tend to deconstruct the character to fit society today and not what society should be. Ironically Marvel was able to perfect this method with Captain America as he was quite a stickler for rules and a bit too stern in the comics, yet in the MCU they were able to reconstruct the character to maintain the positive aspects of his character and depict him as a humble, honest, and endearing man with a heart of gold and as someone who sticks to their gut. Fortunately, now we have shows like Superman and Lois which prove how endearing and compelling Superman can be in the modern era. Hopefully one day a new Superman film understands this and is able to combine the loving, hopeful and inspirational character into a modern era and still make him endearing to audiences as much as the Richard Donner Superman films did. I personally believe that a director for a comic book film should inherit a genuine love for the characters to be truly good in the eyes of the studio, thus being the reason for the successful comic book films like Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Superman (1978), X-men: First Class, Captain America: Winter Soldier and the countless Spiderman films. That is why I think for the next hypothetical Superman film adaptation it needs to have a director that truly has a love for the character and what he represents while providing their own unique creative vision and filmmaking for the character. That is why I believe someone like Brad Bird or Sam Raimi could make incredible Superman films as the two both have a deep love for the character and both have directed and made comic book films that have unique cinematography and celebrate the integrity of the characters they are writing rather than deconstruct them

People going into something saying "oh I won't like 'b' because 'a' didn't sit right with me" is a stupid way of thinking. I watched Snyder's version of superman and liked him, I also liked Clark from superman and lois and smallville.

Hey. Superman is cool. Of all of Lobo's punching bags, Superman is my favorite!

The reason why Clark goes to the base even I didn't see the movie make sense to me considering the Star Lab space base is away from the majority of the city so he just lessened the possible damage by most likely destroying one building instead of a whole city

You gotta try Superman vs the elite. The story for "Man of tomorrow" was written based on a story called "american alien", written by a piece of shit called max landis, a guy who thinks he knows everything about superman but does not. Also, "he went nuts because he girlfriend died". no. He went insane because his wife and his unborn child got killed because of him and his whole city got destroyed by a clown, and when he killed that clown, your precious batboy said "yeah, that's not cool, man" rather than being a decent friend. At least superman did not sleep with his best friend's underage daughter or get all of his "sons" killed.

Superman: Doomsday and Unbound are also both great Superman films and Batman/Superman: Public Enemies and Apokalips are great team up movies that show how well Superman and Batman work off each other, without that stupid idea that they should fight each other.

Superman vs the Elite and All-Star Superman are a bit patronizing though. Especially All-Star.

You should watch Justice Society: WWII. It's the sequel to this and both are in the same universe as Batman: The Long Halloween

Lobo cannot die. A drop of blood is enough to create a new Lobo. And just for good measure, he’s banned from both heaven and hell, meaning he’ll never die.
