Scratch Built Mos Eisley Workshop Diorama

A few years ago I built a Star Wars diorama set for my Son's 3 3/4" action figures and in this video, I show you how I did it.
The finished diorama, based loosely on the structures as seen in Mos Eisley from "Star Wars - A New Hope", is constructed primarily from XPS insulation foam and a sheet of 9mm MDF, then textured with household filler (spackle) and painted with straight off the shelf emulsion paint. Various plant on details were made from styrene plastic and all manner of household items such as elbow joints from waste water plumbing fittings.
If you like this model and want me to make you one similar to it, feel free to contact me about a commission. My address can be found in the ABOUT page.

An interesting development happened today (19th of October, 2019); FOX kindly dropped their *COPYRIGHT CLAIM* on this video for its use of footage from the movie Star Wars - A New Hope. I did dispute their claim as soon as it came in, explaining that it was used for illustrational purposes as part of an educational video. Thankfully, they realised the mistake and released the video. As an experiment, I will leave both versions up to see how they compare with one another in their long term progress. It should be interesting to see how they get on. I'm happy now.

. Last weekend my Son and I had a Garage Sale. I had a few modified Star Wars models stored in the garage, way up high out of the way in their plexiglass cubes (keeps the dust off). Along with my Steampunk flying ship creations. A fellow was interested in purchasing them. He bought a large Taun Taun rider I had re-sculpted from a toy. He said he was so pleased with it that he would place it on his desk at his work. And now, as several others have done, I am going to create the famous "Entry into Mos Eisley", Diorama. Your video is just perfect for referance. Thanks, ever so much.

The end results look great. It's amazing what you can make by sticking a few odd bits of plastic together and giving it a coat of paint. That sums up most of the star wars universe.

  • @PBProps

Thanks. Yeah, it's fun that any old junk stuck together and painted looks like it would fit with that universe - it's the ultimate in kit bashing... or in this case, toy bashing.

Ta. It certainly opens up other possibilities in terms of time management... also, if I've missed recording something on video, chances are I'd have a photograph. This is one of the reasons why the Tom Baker TARDIS model build video has never surfaced. I lost some footage - now that I can add pictures in the way that I always wanted to (with movement) I can go in and add in the pick ups and all isn't lost!

To be honest, I have very little to say about the TARDIS set, beyond what I've said previously. I do like it and it's my favourite of the flat roofed versions of the toy, but then again, I've been saying that CO should have done this version in the first place. My son loves it and it takes pride of place in his collection!

The weathering is quite hit and miss at the bottom of the 5th Doctor box, but I'm somewhat miffed that they gave it the same base as the other. The original was better.
