    Amani, you may have caught the biggest trout in the river! I ski 20+ days per year, and always look at that fork of the Yuba off the highway and dream of fishing it. I believe that in that river, it’s tough for the trout to survive the low water and warm temps at the end of the summers. I LOVED that brown you called “little”!

    Compared to what I have in most of my Truckee River content it is! (I have that content on my playlists) I also fished for big browns a lot in the past in rivers East of Fresno so it's just a matter of context. I was glad to have that one for sure after fighting my way up and down the river all morning! Yeah, a guy was telling me that the water in that stretch gets really low by the end of Summer and into Fall. You summed up the situation in that stretch of river nicely.

    In the beginning I could actually hear the river and smell the pines. Then the journey revealed the reward! Yeah, I like landing fish too, but determination can't be under looked. This video is a metaphor, like a sweet addiction, no pain no gain. Now, that's how you grow big feathers.

    I was working my way up there in my other South Yuba clip on my rivers playlist but it was 90 degrees and I was struggling to hike up the low water riverbed as I fished from pool to pool. I am going to head straight up there at some point and see. There are also popular swimming holes with high waterfalls off of Emigrant Gap exit beyond a campground I was told about. When this river gets low, it stands to reason bigger fish would hold up in spots like that. I think it's worth investigating.

    I didn't see it listed under special regulations. I saw I guy with his kid fishing bait as well but I always recommend everyone check and confirm regs for themselves. There were some spots that were easy to get to but I did have to do a lot of brush breaking and climbing to get to a lot of spots. There are several pools you can park next to and get to the water fairly easy though.

  • @wildernesswithamani1027

    @wildernesswithamani1027

    3 жыл бұрын

    My waders are Neoprene Waders I got off Amazon for about $70. Those boots are cheap boots I got at Walmart for about $20 but I am going to order a pair that is better for hiking because I am climbing around on some crazy rocks when I'm scouting rivers. I just get them a size too big so the waders fit easily. I'm size 11 so I get 12. I do a lot of hiking outside of the water when I fish rivers so the boots are suitable for that. If you are looking for a dude who buys budget items, you found him! I roll on a tight budget! The less I spend, the more I can go!

    Water looking like that, spring runoff, natural food often worms from collapsing banks. Therefore, try a San Juan Worm, on tapered fly leader. One eighth ounce split shot at 8 foot from lure just enough to get it to sink.

    I hear you. I simply didn't want to hassle with dealing with owners that aren't aware of that or choose to ignore it. I think when the water is lower it will be possible to make your way through right along the water. There was too much water flowing now which forced you up and through potential trouble areas to get to where you want to go. To be honest, 20 years ago I probably would have powered straight through to where I wanted to fish! I'm too old for those sorts of complications these days! Thanks for the heads up and thanks for tuning in.

The river was very low over there as well but it was fun messing around with the feisty little wild rainbows. I think my next target will be the middle fork of the Yuba below Jackson Meadows dam.
