  • @MrClebophd

Yes, Pippen's defense could also deflate the morale of the opponents. When Pippen left his man to block a perimeter shot, grab the ball and go for his beautiful Statue of Liberty dunks, the opponents' always looked so defeated. He truly was a fantastic all-around player who could analyze the game, and add his contribution where it was needed. MJ scored, everybody knew that, but Pippen could help rebound when they got killed on the boards, or put massive back court pressure. Also, very underrated, Pippen was the nice guy who kept the other players happy, or said the encouraging words when they needed it. This aspect is almost unknown in the shadow of MJ's bullying of other players.

This man was robbed of league MVP in 1994 and of Defensive Player of the Year in 1995. Coming off another championship he once again joins the US Olympic team in 1996 and goes on to win USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year. Four years prior he was on the 1992 Dream Team, where coach Chuck Daly called him the best player on the team. So not only was he the only player ever to win an NBA championship and an Olympic gold medal in the same year twice, he was considered the top overall performer on the international team both times. In a world where the media and fans love hero ball and individual stardom, Pippen stood out from the rest. He made me love basketball.

If you want to pick the best small forward of all time and you honestly want the smartest, most athletic guy and someone who is incredible defensively and offensively, i don't think you can pick anyone better than Scottie Pippen. Sure you could pick a better shooter or scorer, or a bigger guy, or a guy that can do everything but doesn't have the stamina, but Scottie had it all, and he was one hell of a team player that knew how to maximize himself and his team mates. that 96 year he should have one defensive player of the year. Jordan got the MVP, kukoc got the 6th man award, Phil got the coach of the year, and Jerry Krause won the executive of the year. This was the 72 and 10 season. That year Rodman missed a lot of games. Bulls should have won 76, or 77 games. Even when they got 70 or close they started pulling back. That year they gave the award to gary Payton for doing the some of the things Pip was doing, but pippen could block shots, and guard his teammates assignments as well. He was obviously robbed.

keepnitreel 4me I agree! But some People Monday morning quarterbacking though like Pippen came to the bulls a hall of famer, and not a underdeveloped bench player, to hate on what Jordan did for the bulls franchise since a rookie and this is why I remind them just like I do about cba/Puerto Rico league/ assistant/rookie nba head coach Phil Jackson! Pippen and Jackson became great and Hall of famers after they joined young Jordan’s thing that was on the rise they didn’t even arrive on the bulls with the resumes they have today or the potential of hall of famers that took years to see. No one heard of Pippen until the draft camps, and no one wanted to hire Phil Jackson until Krause put him on Collins staff to spy on him. Krause and Reinsdorf also came late they didn’t own or work for the bulls when Jordan was drafted they bought the team after his rookie season had already started yet they get all of this credit but the center piece to all of their finals appearances and titles is Jordan because we never saw MJ in his prime without these people we saw them in their primes without MJ and they made or won no nba finals! Without MJ on Phil Jackson resume he’s probably still in Puerto Rico or the cba he doesn’t get the 1989 situation of Jordan best nba player ECF team in 1999 situation with Shaq best nba player 1998 WCF team and again 2 young players on their 2nd years starting Pippen/Grant, then Kobe!

OZ Z Seattle had Dale Ellis and Xzavier McDaniels they both were 20+ point scorers and under 28 years old wingmen! They also drafted Derrick Mickey a wing Like 2 picks after Scottie! Never had any intentions of keeping Scottie. Pip Was drafted for the bulls to insure they got Pippen for a draft pick and a future chance to swap 1st round picks with the bulls if bulls had worse record than Sonic. Sonic wanted a center they wanted polynice the player bulls traded them. It’s like Penny Hardaway for Chris Webber or Vince Carter for Antwan Jamison. It be for money, picks, a worse contract as this pick, a number of reasons why draft day trades happen. But Pippen was getting picked by the Bulls they just used a proxy to get him.

Depending on where you go what you’re around, type of mind you have and work ethic and if you don’t get injured it’s no telling how long you will last in the nba! Pippen got disc surgery on n his back after his rookie season. Len Bias died of a cocaine overdose after he was drafted. We don’t know how Pippen would’ve turned out that’s the point. Could’ve been great, could’ve been average or could’ve ended up out the league in a couple of years. All it takes is a coach not liking you not playing you and you not developing fast enough.

Pippen ball handling skills was amazing. His athletic ability was amazing too. If you really were a bulls fan back then, Pippen played the point guard position 50 percent of the time. Even at the Olympics, when both point guards was injured, Pippen played the point for most of the games.

If I gotta point out one thing that is Pure Scottie and no one else does it.....He was the master of "The Jam/The Stuff". All of his dunks were grease lightning quick. He could easily tower above the rim, but I have never seen him with a back-swing, wind-up, or tomahawk. It was always Statue of Liberty style, or the two-handed quick "stuff". He threw it down in a hurry and it was always one fluid motion. An homage to my favorite player EVER.

Another thing that I loved about his game is that when he blocked shots, he often times kept the ball in play instead of sending it into the stands. Instead of the opposing team keeping a possession, he gave his team a chance to get the possession. That's just smart basketball.

I love Scottie for being humble, effective, tough and finesse. Too bad he was too humble (to play smth like hero ball for himself) and may be just unlucky (to lose to the Knicks in 7 and not to go to the finals in 94 without MJ, by his own). The unselfish style of play hasn't been selling well for him( And there's Kobe... "refusing to pass" and so on, they love him. Many people think of him as of the GOAT over MJ. And nobody wants to call Pipp the GOAT... except the great Chuck Daily, except every Bulls' teammate including Rodman and MJ himself. Sure Jordan haven't called Pippen the GOAT but times and times again he gave him the credit he completely deserved: "Scottie carried us today", "Scottie deserves the finals' MVP", Scottie does this and that, Scottie, Scottie, Scottie... but the majority of people forgot that or even doesn't have a clue. Almost everybody thinks of him as of only a sidekick to Jordan. What a pitiful point of view. Almost everybody looks to the PPG average first, as if it would be a price tag or smth definitive like that. "More than 28? Sweet! Less then 25? Wtf? Nononono, garbage". Chuck Daily, Phil Jackson and many players give us the right answer to the question of who Scottie Pippen really was and how valuable he was.

Nicely put, however, I'd never put Kobe over Pippen. Pippen was a unique player in his versatility. The Bulls won a lot of games because Pippen adapted and started dominating or equalizing areas in which they were losing. In addition, the defense was amazing. Phil Jackson could just put him where the opposing team hurt them. Magic is torching MJ because of size? No problem - I'll just put Pippen on Magic. Barkley is too quick and skilled for Horace Grant? No big deal, I'll put Pippen at the 4 spot...

Scottie was a freak athlete and he had off the charts basketball size. At 6'7"/6'8," he had an absurd 7'4.25" wingspan. The United Center used to have (and still may) an area where you could see some of the Bulls' players hand sizes and wingspans. Pippen's hands aren't as big as MJ's but they're massive. His wingspan is only 1.75 inches shy of Shaq's span and longer than most 7'footers. Scottie was a "do it all" player. He could defend 4 positions and finish with ease. His shooting wasn't bad but it was the weakest part of his game. I loved MJ but I don't think he would have gotten 6 rings without Pippen. Pippen and Grant were awesome.

People wouldn't know how explosive someone like Pippen was at taking even smaller guards off dribble, showing how fast and athletic he was. It almost seems like they try to diminish him by only showing what Grant Hill or Kobe did to him, but neglect to show him go back in put on them too. Your plays here were better than the so called top dunks and plays of his career. Thank you for the time you put in creating these videos of some of all-time great.
