I love how something as goofy and cartoonish as Scott Pilgrim can have characters that are so human and well-written that it literally made Bryan's friends leave him because they saw themselves in his characters and how flawed they were as people.

Eh, I'd be asking for a little money under the table for copying my likeness in your super popular million dollar story. Let's not act like we personally know Brian Lee O'Malley. If Scott is anything to go by, maybe Brian is just a huge asshole and his friends left him... because he's a huge asshole.

I find it ironic that Bryan lost friends over writing Scott Pilgrim, since it seems to be for the same reason a lot of people now bandwagon on hating Scott Pilgrim: it's a story about not very good people just trying to make life work, whilst making a lot of mistakes and being painfully human. And I think some people hate that because it's too real. Some people don't get that as you said, Scott being not-so great is highly deliberate. It's just the author never handholds the reader and goes "This is the characterisation." Dope video man; I hope more people give the series a chance

It's 100% this. This is not a heroic story, and people just don't have the literacy to understand this, while it's pretty clear that it's parody and none of the characters are supposed to be seen as taking very good decisions

My father sold my five string bass guitar to pay for financial responsibilities without my consent before Scott Pilgrim Vs The World hit theatres, so when I was watching the movie I was seething that not only did this cartoon Canadian man with noodle arms have a beautiful bass guitar I couldn’t afford (a Rickenbacker) he also had a girlfriend when I didn’t, and I hated Scott for that because in my mind it was unacceptable. I feel like Frank Grimes from The Simpsons talking about the proverbial Homer Simpson that is Scott Pilgrim in this analogy, I’ve always hated this character from the moment I laid eyes on him, but when I was on painkillers for a scalded leg I read the comics and the meds bypassed the part of my brain that hated Scott and I was entertained by how garbage he was instead of infuriated.

The entire comic/manga(?) felt like a satire on 2000s drama and romance and how it’s portrayed. As well as just early adulthood and how teens gotta quit the bs and act their age when the time comes. I remember having a nice overdose of adhd in the first 3 vols with a looming sense of existential dread then 4-6 hit me hard. They slowed down yet had so much stuff going on and suddenly got really deep for no reason. And someone summed the message up perfectly “if ur still acting like a volatile and toxic teen as an adult, grow tf up”. Evidently it was a bit too subtle since a lot of fans still missed the point and even idolized the characters (movie and comics) Also kinda sad O’Malley’s former friends didn’t take the hint that the parody of their life points out their flaws they need to work on

One thing I loved about Scott Pilgrim is that on the final volumes, when there is a 'time skip' of sorts, I'd get sooo anxious. Thinking about it, I realized it was because I had a fear of change, of not knowing how things would turn out. I was in my twenties, and seeing all of Scott's 'original biome' of sorts change so much made me realize how fearful I was for how my life could change. Would I lose my friends? Would my hobbies change? Would I drop out from my course degree? The last frame of this video brought it all back together, in a good way. Seeing how everyone turned out in the story - each on their own path, but still connected - gave me that same sense of anxiety for what will be of my life (I'm 23 now), but now I'm looking foward to that unkown.

I find it curious, Scott Pilgrim is supposed to be a work whose main focus is accepting responsibility and thinking about others. When Bryan started this story it was with an innocent intention, but there must have come a point where he asked his friends what they thought of his work, some of them probably didn't like it, but he still continued. What if he is a Scott Pilgrim who didn't learn his lesson?

Being teenager and young adult is to put on many costume because u think u need to play a game of pretend for society to accept you. Then you grow up, don't go to school, people u used to know have kids, and u realize nobody really gives a shit. U start stripping down all the layers u put onto yourself, and then in the end urself is left. Just you, just unfiltered vonerable you. And you learn to accept yourself and forgive yourself for who you are. Because you can't be anyone else than yourself, and there's no reason to fight that.

Banger video. I’ve always loved the part in vol 5 where Scott sleeps in the same bed with Kim and she tells him she’s moving. The whole situation is awkward and Scott just looks so shocked and sort of hurt when she tells him. It sort of makes sense in his little brain when he says she’s always been there for him and you can see it affects him when she leaves right after Ramona does.

It went from lighthearted goofiness to an extended subplots about the apocalypse and demented dictators. Steven Universe did a better job of striking the right balance between emotion and fun (as does Scott Pilgrim.)

Hm I just want to say how I came to love Scott Pilgrim. I was 13 when it aired in theaters and I went to see it opening weekend, and its now 2023 and every year it feels like this annual obsession kicks in. Full force once again now the show is out. From the music to the fashion I was a fanatic - I dressed like ramona, bag and all and dyed my hair every month or two weeks depending - it was so bad LOL Even my first boyfriend, he somehow ended up buying Todd's official shirt from the film and he used to wear it - we called each other Scott n Ramona - but theres so much more... Now that Im a musician I constantly look to what inspired me and 100% Scott Pilgrim is responsible for me creating music and finding the music I loved. The fashion I wear on stage or for photos is even entirely inspired by Envy Adams. This series will NEVER leave my life - it taught me amazing lessons and I related a bit too much to Ramona as a young adult... I'm so happy its resurging.

I've watched the film and read the graphic novels plenty of times since they came out so I'm going to copy a comment from another video that I agree with in retrospect. 15-year-old me: "Wow, these two are the perfect couple in every way." 20 year-old me: "Wow, Ramona's a bitch. Scott is too good for her." 25 year-old me: "Wow, Scott is a monster. Ramona's too good for him." 30 year-old me: "Wow, these two awful people are perfect for each other."

I happened upon the series when I was 16 because of an article in a games and movies magazine about the upcoming movie and it talks about the comic. Lo and behold, a little while later I found the comic in a book shop in a visit to the neighboring city. I finished the series on the following year, getting the third an last volume as it was released (where I'm from it was compilated into three volumes for it's release). The way I looked at the series from one year to the other, in a time in life when each month is so different form the other, let alone one year to another, changed drastically, especially from the third volume to the fourth (my favorite). The story stuck a lot with me and my friends both (some of them were also really into it after borrowing my copies), and we kinda had the same douchey problem for some time, as dumb young adults. It's nostalgic to look back at Scott Pilgrim now, for how much it meant for us back then, and seeing how, after all those years, it still has a strong following and how many people also holds it to heart. Also, the anime opening having references to my two favorite animes from back then also made me lose my shit lol

1:46 maybe not always in 1 episode or story but Doctor Who has a great blend or switch between episodes with more darker or thriller or scary ishy stuff and then to fun or comedy stuff/ episodes, and episodes do have comedy in between, so I would recommend Doctor Who! ( good to start with 2005 episode 1 Rose, and continue at the very least to the series 4 and the specials of "new who"(the revived series) but if you're enjoying it you could continue it even further into the Moffat era (11th/12th doctor) which are great, assuming that ofc if you would be even willing to check out or watch for that long as 4 series etc). other than that great video and analyzation of Scott Pilgrim! also as a side note, thanks for the uhh the stuff u said on 6:51.... (I'm 18 soon 19) and that stuff assured me more that I can either make things right or use events and stuff as learning experience to make myself improve to be better later on in life.(related to recent stuff and thoughts about the things for some time and like just recently having thought about those things to, do something towards making things at least a bit more "right" I guess) (referring to the part where you said that it's a dumb cycle of dumb stuff happening until you decide and realize to make things right) and uhhh I very much might regret later on putting/writing/posting this last bit in this comment on this account...And not on an alt account... maybe but dunno....

Scissor seven fits your two requirements pretty well. Fair warning the first season is pretty much only light hearted stuff but it adds more serious elements later. Not to say the first season isn’t good but there is an obvious jump in writing quality. Check it out because it deserves a lot more praise

I hate my youth. I did nothing that's why Scott Pilgrim makes me extremely depressed, seeing all these things others have experienced in such a short time no matter if good or bad. I hate my youth.

Anyone else read the comics at age 13 and grow up thinking that this is what your early to mid twenties would be like, only to end up in your late twenties-early thirties single with like two friends and no real hobbies? Cause same

What are your thoughts on the new Scott Pilgrim show on Netflix? Its... certainly not what I was expecting, but Im just happy that we got some new Scott Pilgrim content in 2023. SPOILERS ABOUT WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE WHOLE SHOW BELOW I feel kinda sad that the show implies that the original timeline of the comics would lead to everything that the Old Scott and Older Ramona experienced... I mean it's realistic maybe but like... idk its kinda sad to think about it

I really love how Netflix Show focus on how amazing Remona was to bounce back and forth between her Ex-es, but not to get back with them but to put them in the friends zone so they can help her out with whatever they can while she is tying to make it work with her ne BF just to find out she don't need no BF and love is not really worth fighting for. Whatever.
