I do love these old B&W movies. Hard not to appreciate anything Boris Karloff is in. I did have to laugh though when the Doctor entered at about the 40 minute mark basically outfitted in Milkman attire, all white, hat included. Thanx again Many Blessings All 🙏🇺🇸💪

p.s. Scott Lord -- thank you so much for doing this and I believe other series. They do my heart so much good, especially in these 2020 troubled times. And p.p.s. shame on and I pity the rare commentators who won't watch a film if it doesn't have a synopsis, after somebody like Scott Lord goes to all this trouble to compile these wonderful movies for you. Shame, shame, shame, You can't spend maybe 120 seconds to see if you like the feel of the movie in question or to find out if you may have seen it already? Talk about "looking a gift horse in the mouth," Do you have somebody cut up your food for you. Sorry for the snarkiness but my lord what ungrateful jerks,

You DO realize that movie synopses have existed since MOVIES have existed right? It took me a grand total of 2 WHOLE SECONDS to find an online repository of old movie reviews (FROM THEIR TIME EVEN!), synopses, Summaries, etc. "You read the back of a book? You don't read the first 2 chapters to see if you wanna read the book further? Do you have someone cut up your food for you." This is what you sound like from ANY logical person's POV. You sound not only pretentious, but stupid. Here's the synopsis for Boris Karloff as Mr.Wong, Detective. "When investigating the death of a chemical manufacturer, detective James Wong (Boris Karloff) uncovers an international spy ring. In the first of a popular movie franchise from Monogram Pictures, director William Nigh unfurls an intriguing mystery headlined by a cast that includes Grant Withers, Maxine Jennings, and Evelyn Brant. What's not to love when a movie includes a crafty detective, secret formulas, and poisonous gas?" Be a better person.

Can anybody tell me why "they" let Grant withers??[the cop] literally YELL his lines. Isn't that something a director or somebody would control even if it was a "B" movie [and to me Boris Karloff as Mr. Wong is totally A+++++] Was he going deaf?? Some people loosing their hearing can't tell how loud their voice is. i tried to research it via google but all I could find out was that in some bigger time western he allegedly kept trying to get on his horse from the wrong side. But the yelling just drives me nuts.

Its referred to as "yelling as speech", a "trope" with cinematic beginnings dating way back and gaining in popularity through the 50's and 60's, a prime example is the Russ Myers b-film Faster Pussycat Kill Kill!, but there are several others, and continuing in film and TV in the modern era, used for various reasons, sometimes to establish a character as brash or bossy, sometimes in a given context to lend a character a more unusual persona as in director David Lynch's FBI director self-played in the various Twin Peaks incarnations, and so on.

It's no wonder that Grant Withers was no more than a bit player in "A"s and a star in "B"s. There was always something in his delivery that just seemed a shade bit insincere whether he played it straight or as here where attempts to be funny in that arrogant sort of way.
