Scotland 2020, in the footsteps of "Local Hero" 1983
Trip to Scotland from Poland. Under COVID-19 social distance restrictions in July 2020. Trip to visit the beautifull places where Local Hero movie was made: Pennan, Banff, Lochailort, Morar (Camusdarach beach), Loch Tarff. In the meantime, Oban, Isle of Skye, Applecross pass. One week, one bike, one pair of shoes :-). Lot of ferries, lot of talk to locals, lot of fun, lot of rain, lot of whisky (purchased, not drunk).
BIke used was BMW1250 Adventure. BMW clothes - great asset, as well goretex trekking shoes.
Total mileage was over 4000 km from Zielona Góra city in Poland. Ferry taken from Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) to Newcastle and back. Caledonian MacBrayne ferry was used from Mallaig to Armadale (Skye).

What a wonderful trip. The pictures combined with the music moved me to tears as the movie does.
Thats is great, and thanks for visiting Scotland. I'm from the far northwest corner, where "Ferness" is depicted on the map in the film. I love Local Hero, it touched a lot of people. Fulton Mackay was my fathers cousin, and in the film he's the virtual double of my dad with the accent, the mannerisms and the dry wit.
The final makes me smile and cry at the same time.👍

…me too. I have watched that final scene here on KZread more than once. 😊
One of my all time favorite movies, with arguably the best soundtrack to boot! 40 years old this year! I have always wondered what Pennan, Scotland was like in real life. Thank you for sharing this video!🍺🥃🍻
Brilliant, a favourite movie and a journey I hope to follow one day! Thanks for sharing yours.
What a wonderful video. Stunning scenery.
The roads are crap, the weather is crap but the place touches your soul.
Ahhhhh ...the telephone box. Great video must do that some day, loved the film, loved the music...can hear the telephone ringing now...
Hey thanks for sharing this. That movie and the music really takes you back there. It's one of the best movies ever made. And Pennan is a beautiful place to be ❤️
One of my favorite films. Fantasic video, thank you!
Thanks, very beautiful video, like the old film from 80's, the bucolic ambient of town hasn't changes in 40 years, seems the time are stoped. And for complete your video the great music from the original soundtrack by Mark Knopfler
Love Mark Knopfler and his music
Yes sir... Good trip, good idea, good video, good images... For all of us who are in love with that movie, the plan is very original and ingenious. But you have also managed to perfectly summarize and synthesize everything important. Very well selected images, music and comments. I hope you enjoyed your trip as much as I enjoyed your video. Congratulations and thank you. All the best.👍👌
Loved the film…and loved your tribute. Thanks for sharing it with us all. 😎👍
Some day.. when I can save enough. Till then this should keep me happy. Love from India
Brilliant video. Well done for biking it all the way from Germany.
Long way in a week - well done. Looks like you enjoyed it despite the best of Scottish weather thrown at you
I was in Arisaig when they were filming. I had no idea they were making a film, but I met the helicopter pilot and some of the crew in the pub. They did build the church on the beach, but everything to do with it was fake, so when they were done it was all taken away and there was nothing left to see. I have seen and heard the northern lights up there, and I had no idea they could make sound, and I don't know how that works. I hope you enjoyed the trip, I used to spend 6-8 weeks in Arisaig every year growing up, and 4 weeks a year after I was working and before I emigrated.
Wunderbar!
Wunderbar !! Für mich der beste Film aller Zeiten.
I przy końcu filmu odryłem, że to ''nasi'' byli. Super film. Dzięki.
I´d like to thank you for this beautiful video. It´s like a magical trip, a kind of gate through time and space. And all my memories from the movie suddenly coming back. Thank you so much!!!
Local Hero is the film that made me live in Scotland. Took a decade, but I got there. For a little time at least. :) Where is Ben's Beach exactly? Man, that music is so good.
Fantastic! 😎
Its arguable that skye has the most dramatic scenery . Knoydart and glen torridon and affric etc would beat it in my book . However that aside im working away from home and watching this video has stirred my scottish soul . Tear in my eye. I need to go home i think
Many thanks for Video.
Beautiful!
Widoki - wielkie wow !
Thank you for your video
Fantastic.
Chin Dobre! From NZ via the UK and my Scottish Clan Armstrong! Awesome trip and such a way to honour the film and its message of humanity.
Beautiful. Brought a tear to my eye.
I love this movie! The music of Mark Knopfler is awesome! The Isle of Skye, I was there in 2018 on a guided Bus tour. Portree, the colourful houses at the harbour and Armadale Castle near the ferry to Mallaig. Thank You for this video!

The west coast of Scotland where you will find the best beaches anywhere in the world but take an umbrella...
Love this movie and the music. When and where is the next group showing for all of us fans?
