for those of you who didn't know, the parasite is actually the guy you played as in the prologue. remember how the guy in the prologue died to the strange goo. and that is why when you find the first weapon its actually attached to the parasite's tail. so to make the story as short as possible: the goo transformed the guy in the prologue into the human/parasite we know now.

@@babayaga9805 so, i may be incorrect but i think first guy wasn't actually himself anymore so the first guy was kind of being mind controlled but the parasite that took over the first guy, its objective was to not let you make it to the other side of the portal so human life wouldn't thrive. i think that's why in the start of the game the parasite actually helps you, but soon realized that you and it didn't have the same objective. and also i'm not positive why the parasite decided to just become an immobile creature to consume you

Before this game we could have debated what video game character pushed through more pain, I don't think we can ever ask that again.

For something that "got worse over time" it still worked just fine, but lacked in making sure anything caught was fastened securely enough to mitigate escape compared to that multi-limbed operating machine

Closest thing I can think of IRL would be like an excavator boom. And of all the parts that break down over time, the claw and bucket (working tool) are probably the most resilient ones lol.

It actually makes horrible sense. The man just didn't know better, but he was supposed to stay in the rack, and only the pregnant vessel was meant to go thru the portal. Because as long as he's in the rack, the parasite can't really bond properly. And as long as you're in the biomechanical vessel, the parasite really has nothing to latch on to. If you look at the other figures in racks around the chamber, it's clear you're meant to surrender your flesh to fuel the collective you're about to join in mind and spirit. But the man screws up, and severs his own connection to the collective. But again: Dying world=lack of function and instruction=more failures.

I spared you 2 hours of literally nothing.

Pause at 4:19. We can see the skull head of the first character, completely dissolved and turned on the left, just like when he died on the floor... Nice attention to details.

First game I've seen where you get infected by yourself as a parasite, get your guts ripped out, get your dick sucked by a machine, and die to said parasite and become some weird cocoon thing

You know what I've noticed, after the ejaculation tube we are transferred into a pregnant machine which must hold his blood and seed as a way to be reborn once again but the guy didn't know that and did the stupid choice to take both him and his egg together to whatever place where supposed to go, it's tragedy after tragedy with this game, the first guy becomes a parasite because of one mistake he did and the second guy dies because of his ignorance and becomes himself a parasitic egg, we don't play a game, we are experiencing horror tragedy movie right here, in the end they become the egg of destruction, they will infect the last place which is clean from the flesh infection and destroy whatever species have remained once and for all

I have just noticed that too by watching this video. In the first cutscene you are switching between years of distance, from the point of view of the same character. The wasteland is the past and the first part of the game, the ooze is the present and supposedly when he starts looking for someone to attach to. Also his point of view does match how you see him in the game menu.

It's strange that the first character you are has a mouth but no lips, yet the second character doesn't even have one. And I tried, but you can't die from it early. It damage you with one health bar, and you don't die if you have one health left when it digs deeper.

@@drewrichmond2964 he wanted to go too, it’s clear the both have some sort of internal thing that sets them in motion, I’m confident the first character was trying to accomplish what the second was trying to do, but obviously failed. The second didn’t want the first to come too cuz the first was mutated and not what it once was AND was impeding the seconds progress to do whatever it was that was the objective never made clear to the player. Self preservation leads to horrible acts of cruelty as seen with the ending.

One thing I understand from this is everything requires a blood sacrifice. It's rather yours or from something else. The machine you use to carry the body is still cutting into the guts, but you don't know why. Well, maybe that's the sacrifice required to keep the machine going?

In my thoughts, the parasite are mutation from his old vessel. when the protagonist transfer to another body he's expected only the gun (the key) is require, but instead the previous vessel to stubborn and became parasite, the protagonist couldn't do anything but to progress along with the parasite.

Chestburster: kills you (boring) Headcrab: makes you walk but keeps you conscious Necromorph: i didn't play dead space, but i did see some top about terrifying fates and the ones stuck to the wall with their guts turned into tentacles while fully conscious and suffering every second is terrifying This game: that thing has mutated so far beyond recognition it's kinda like a lizard with thoracic cages as a tail and main structure as well as a brain esque thing it puts in your head, not to mention it slithers as a centipede and puts its hands inside your chest regularly. It doesn't posses you, it doesn't control you, it just restricts you enough to feed on you, something a parasite would do. What takes it for me it's the ending, in which the thingy fuses with you and you can't separate it anymore, turning in whatever flesh abomination is that at the end. The fact we don't really know what that at the end is makes it an eeny miny more terrifying than dead space for me

I think it's the person you play as in act one. The tower blows up and you get covered in goop, and then suddenly in act 2 you're in a different place and time, and when the parasite attaches to you, you get your first gun back.

He is the first player character, The second is the Scorn guy,

This is the first time a horror game has made me feel physical pain

Everytime the Parasite/Prologue Guy would hurt the Protagonist as I played I literally went. "Why!? We are in this together! Stop hurting me!"

If we go with the theory that the Parasite was actually just trying to help in some misguided way, maybe the way it kept digging into the protagonist's belly was a way to bond better with you, the fact that you're allowed to use its tail as a weapon for your own purposes could simply be because it needs you to survive, at least just for long enough. The tendrils growing on his arms and legs could have been some kind of cocooning material, perhaps that cocoon you become at the end wasn't what the parasite really wanted at first, when we see the tendrils grow, the protagonist doesn't react as much like when hes dug into, suggesting its not as painful. Maybe if you were to let the parasite run its course naturally and willingly. (I know, who would do that? XD) the cocoon the two of you would create would have been better formed and maybe it wouldn't have been as painful. when you got near the surgery machine the parasite probably just panicked and ripped you open by accident. Basically going: "OK man, I know you're mad but I'm just, OH FUCK! I'M SO SORRY! BUT YOU'RE STRESSING ME OUT!" Then when you finally rip it off yourself it basically acts like a rejected girlfriend and runs away crying, probably why it doesn't kill you there and then. Then just as you're about to achieve your goal it comes back to take its, in its own mind; righteous anger out on you and enact a 'plan B' of sorts.

Accidentally ripped you open at the operating machine?!? I guess you missed the parts where when it attacked thr player to subdue them then promptly ripped open the front of the abdomen and thrusts its hand into the open wound. Then repeated till the removal it occasionally pulls it's arms out only to start thrusting them into the chest cavity under the rib cage. Then whole reason the protagonist is not screaming during it all is they have no mouth or likely vocal capability to scream. The thing is pure parasite and any benefits it does give is to only assure it is the one that kills and absorbs you and nothing else.

Dude just wanted to get hooked up to the auto-sucker 9000 MK2 and ends up being dissected and made a host to a parasite

I don't think there are any aliens here at all, it's all just the dead remains of a far future humanity and the decaying ruins of their technology. The POV characters seem to understand what this stuff is and how to use it after all.

I’m starting to get a vibe from the Parasite. Looking at the ending, how the final stage resembled a large fungal tree. The way the larger face seems more at peace, while the smaller face within seemed to have resigned to their fate. The Parasite’s behavior reminds me of a woman who’s trying to kidnap a live fetus due to their inability to have a child of their own. The way they cling to the player, unwilling to let them go free even at the end. The way you benefit from it, yet you’re hurt more than you do so. The disembowelment, and stabbing it’s tail through your body, covering you with this fungal like growth is like it’s trying to remake you in its image. Once you “refused it” by separating it from you, it resolved to prevent you from escaping. During the ending you see it wrap it’s tail around your legs to prevent you from being able to get away again, now choosing to simply take over your body completely rather than letting it slowly happen. The Parasite, from what I’m gathering, represents a barren mother wanting to have a child so badly, they’d take one by force.

Because of how crazy anything is in this game, your guy can prob just be a brain and be removed from the parasite and put into a super flesh robot and its all good

I adore the sound design of this game. The parasites don’t sound like any other video game creature and come across as truly otherworldly.

like someone else said in another comment, the constant stabbing was likely to keep the protagonist conscious until the possessed robot could take him through the portal. that part really disturbed me, I had to look away after the first several stabs, even stooping to asking the game to "please stop" lol

"Name a character that's gont thru more pain than steven universe" also, this game takes realistic gore to another level, only rarely get uneased by gore, but this gore, they somehow made the graphisms, anbiance etc so it makes you feel unconfortable

I dont see a cycle. The game starts from the parasites perspective. It begins showing how the first human wakes up after becoming the parasite, then lets you play until the human becomes infected and turns. It then switches perspectives to the new protagonist and the game follows that person all the way till the end, where they both fuse and can't go anywhere. That's where it ends. Nothing cycles. They're both stuck.

I believe aliens took female human embryos and mixed them with their own gene. creating humanoids which gave the planet life. though some kind of parasite took over and killed everything including wiping out all female humanoids. which the reproduction was a failure. so they created reproductive embryos in men. the robots would hold baby's in them. which you fight one in-game. the whole reproductive lore can be easily seen by all the statues of birth throughout endgame. the game is pretty crazy

@@Nbmstr2000 no, he’s right, it’s not a cycle. First scene (main menu) is a result of the first guy mutated by that liquid spilled on him in Act 1. Basically we start as the parasite wakes and sees flashbacks of his trip to the temple and his fall to the labyrinth where we start. Compare those bone like things he cracks in the very beginning of the video, when his trying to free his hand. They’re the same on the parasite. What is more, when we see how parasite takes over the player, there is a skull on the inner side of parasite which is basically the other side of the face we see in main menu.

Not actually the same person - Giger died in 2014 - but the art style of the game is very heavily inspired by his artwork, to the point you could regard it as a tribute.

Assuming the parasite is the prologues protagonist it would make sense that due to being gooifed in the beginning that it has become something akin to the crater creatures you face through the game in that term everything in the game is a sort of parasite and the different types of parasitism for example the player and the parasite bonding and increasing odds of survival. The theory to why it attaches to the latter protagonist could be some sort of resemblance to its original form although it is unknown what these creatures seeks to find alot of unknowns is present

I love scorn it was one of the best games I've played in a while

Looks like the end of the game is still more enjoyable than a visit to IKEA on a Saturday.

Scorn is a playable sleep paralysis nightmare running low on oxygen trying to wake yourself one body part at a time.

What if there was an ending where you can give the parasite it’s old body back in you escape with it

I feel like if he/she had just left their body, they have made it out with their new body.

I had the same thought then figured it kinda works like a loose bridge. You use your original body consciousness to "pilot" the 2nd body , but you're not genuinely that 2nd body just your perception is. Sight, feel, smell, general movement, ect. Say body #2 got shot in the head, realistically that would suck ass but I think "that end of the bridge" would collapse and you'd pop back into the original body like we saw
