I'm definitely subscribing to you because we both grew up being obsessed with Toy Story. I think you're going to enjoy hearing about my history with it, so I'll post about it here. When I was 4, I kept seeing the movie advertised on TV, and at first, I thought it looked weird since I wasn't used to CGI, but then one night, my dad got me the VHS when we were out grocery shopping at BI-LO and I was curious to see it, so after we got home, we watched the movie and it had us laughing a lot. It was the first full length movie I ever sat still throughout its entirety and after we were finished, I wanted to watch it again, so my mom and I watched it again while my dad went to bed, then afterwards, I wanted to watch it a third time, but it was time for bed. A day or two later, it was Halloween and we went to some event, and I remember seeing two boys in front of me dressed as Woody and Buzz, and I felt a bit jealous because they were dressed as my two new favorite characters while I was dressed as a Hershey Kiss. One day, my dad asked who I liked more, Woody or Buzz, and I said Woody, then he gave me this PVC figure of him. Sadly, shortly after having him, his arm broke off (kind of a coincidence considering what happened in Toy Story 2) and my dad gave me a little Buzz Lightyear action figure likely to cheer me up. Not long after, he gave me a full size Woody and I was very about this. I usually brought a plush or doll with me whenever my parents and I went out, and that Woody unsurprisingly became a common one. One time, when my parents and I went somewhere with some other relatives, they left me in the lobby with my older cousin who was 12 at the time, and he took Woody from me and I kept trying to get him back, but my cousin kept telling me that Woody was trying to sleep. I got so upset that I kept grabbing the pillows from the couches and throwing them on the floor. My cousin kept saying my dad was going to buy me a candy bar if I behaved, and he would be sad if I didn't. Later, my mom got back, and my cousin told her about how I kept throwing the pillows on the floor, and since I was too young to explain what happened, she got mad at me. Thankfully, I at least got Woody back. On Election Day, my parents were going out to vote and took me with them. I misheard my mom say we were going boating and was a bit disappointed when we got there and there were no boats or water, but I wasn't too disappointed because my dad had a surprise in the van before we left. When I got in the van, there was a Buzz Lightyear strapped in my seat (as a reference to a scene my mom always found funny where Buzz strapped himself in the Pizza Planet truck), and I said "Buzz, what are you doing in Katelyn's white van?", then I sat in the seat next to him. Unsurprisingly, I wanted all the toys in Toy Story, so my Christmas list that year was full of Toy Story toys. My dad went to every local store looking for Toy Story toys including Toys R Us, KB Toys, Walmart, and even Burger King which was having a Toy Story promotion around the time of the VHS release. On Christmas Eve, I got Toy Story bedding, then on Christmas Day, nearly everything I got was Toy Story related. I got every major character in some form. I had all the major characters in some form, I had puzzles, keychains, etc. There were even two Toy Story popcorn tins that my parents ate all the popcorn out of so that my dad could fill them with toys. This is probably the Christmas my dad remembers the most fondly. Another nostalgic memory related to the first movie is how my parents and I loved quoting it. We lived in an apartment, then shortly after I turned 5, we moved to a new house. Before we left our apartment for the final time, we said "Bye apartment!" just like how Andy's mom told Andy to say "Bye house!" before they moved. In 1999, I was excited when I saw Toy Story was getting a sequel. My dad had already told me the year prior that there was going to be another Toy Story movie, but it wasn't until November when I started seeing Toy Story 2 advertised on TV. I was excited to see new characters in the trailer, especially Jessie since we had a new major female character making Bo Peep no longer the only one. The day before Thanksgiving, I went out to lunch with my grandma, and after we got home, my parents surprised me with a Jessie doll. We saw Toy Story 2 at the theater on Thanksgiving, and I brought my new Jessie doll with me. We all loved the movie and thought it was just as great as the first one. We saw it again with my grandma on Christmas Day making this the first movie I ever saw at the theater more than once. While I didn't get as many Toy Story 2 toys for Christmas since I was into other things around this time such as the Powerpuff Girls, Scooby-Doo, Bear in the Big Blue House, Pokémon and Rugrats, I still got all the major new characters. We were hyped for Toy Story 3. First, we saw the first two movies during their limited time 3D showing in theaters, then in 2010, we saw Toy Story 3 in IMAX 3D (being the second movie we had this experience with after Shrek Forever After.) It was a fitting time since this was the year I turned 18, and Andy was grown up. My dad got emotional during the end when Andy gave his toys to Bonnie. It was a little hard for him since he was wearing 3D glasses over his normal glasses and crying. Sadly, I didn't collect any of the toys around this time due to us struggling financially, but at least we enjoyed the movie. Toy Story 4, I know is a love it or hate it movie, but I'm on the love it side. I originally wondered how they could continue after Toy Story 3, then when I found out they were bringing back Bo Peep, I was excited because I was sad when it was revealed in TS3 that she was no longer with the other toys, especially since she was one of my favorites during my early childhood. I even had a stamp of her and Woody that my mom got me once when we went to a stamp shop during my first Toy Story craze. While Toy Story 4 may not have topped the other three for me, I still thought it was a great movie, and it really showed how much Woody had developed since the first movie with how he gained a new purpose to help other toys get new homes and be there for their kids. This added even more to Woody being one of my all-time favorite characters in media. I'm now wondering what Toy Story 5 will have to offer.
