Neo Townsend 🙏🏼 thanks my dude! If you dig em and wanna help me keep making these visit patreon.com/anthonyotoolemusic and chip in even a buck and I’ll love you forever
I remember playing this early in high school. I loved the piece but I don't remember the clown jumpscares.
I played this piece in high school, and it was iconic in my love for performing in and teaching band. Love the analysis, thanks for the video!! Will use this in class!

I was cornet 2 but the only cornet 2😭
OMG - love your gifs. Throwing shade on Arnold takes balls. Love it.
Your score studies show me these pieces in New lights. Love all the clowns in the 3rd movt; well all except one.
Rehearsal m-o is probably one of my favourite moments in the piece. It just sounds so mysterious in the middle of such an upbeat movement
Prelude: 0:12 Siciliano: 2:13 Rondo: 6:10
Not only an enjoyable score study, but a treat at the end!
Sounds really nice! I hope I get to play this!
played this at IMC this summer and as a relatively inexperienced high school clarinetist, the lilting part in siciliano was surprisingly difficult!! this piece was an amazing learning experience though, and this video puts it in a whole new light.
Thanks for this! I haven't heard of this piece before now, and now I'm thinking of conducting it at the highschool I'm student-teaching at.
Excellent score study for compositional purposes, thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Love the clowns in the third movement
There's actually something that's supposed to be in the first movement that I can't tell if Paynter purposely left out, but in the original brass band score (Called "Little Suite for Brass" Op. 80) at rehearsal F on that held out Ebmaj7 (minus 3rd in the held out chord) chord there's actually supposed to be a stating of the principal melodic material (according to my ear I think it would've been written in the Euphonium). It starts on the second beat of the 3rd measure of F starting on a Bb2 to an Eb3 to a G3 to an F3 and then a G3 onto the 3rd beat of the next measure just like the rhythm of the principal theme in G major when it is first stated. This would solve the issue of the major third that it doesn't add in the beginning because Arnold probably wants them to be two separate ideas (the eighth+two sixteenth notes on beat 4 section and the main melodic material), but having this melody in the recapitulation I think would tie the two sections together because it just sounds very empty on those two measures. Idk I thought I would bring it up...

It’s actually the same exact melody as rehearsal B in the low brass on the first two measures but the last G is held out for the entire two beats as a half note
Excellent . Educational. Malcom Arnold is an under-rated composer. Check out his symphonies.
LOVE THOSE PICS
I miss this song and that god awfully hard 16th run in the third movement :’) (tuba player btw so anything other than down beats and whole notes are hard)

I’ma be playing this at UIL which is tomorrow😭 to make this worse in the only cornet 2💀
This piece is giving Mondstadt region from Genshin Impact. also still traumatised by that one band concert where I accidentally play a Db chord instead of Eb on the vibes for the last chord of the siciliano 💀💀
Sounds like a Db∆/Ab instead of Dø/Ab in the 2nd half of measure 81.
Amazing

That Guy look I’m in no place to judge as it’s way better than my own compositions, but it’s a little cliched don’t you think. Then again I feel that way about the majority of symphonic wind ensemble music. The use of the Can-Can ending at the end is the cherry on the top.
This is some gourmet shit
