07 yamaha moped, if i hit the start button, it has spark for 1 or 2 revolutions and then is gone. If i the start button again, it has spark for 1 or 2 revs then gone. It constantly does this. Any ideas?

haha like me as well Laureen. I acquired this Jonway Scooter and all summer long video after video of trouble shooting and the one video I kept skipping over was the one on the battery only because well I just bought this battery but I kept tryin to start it straining it, not charging it thinking it was new I didnt need to. when I finally watched the video it said the battery needs to be charged to about 12.65 or something around that I dont remember now but I checked mine with multi meter and sure enough it was below 12. and thought son of a b.....! all summer! took it to a shop cause I didnt have a battery charger then they fully charged it took it home put it in and bam! started right up but it was winter at that point. lol then In spring was riding along going down this big hill full throttle (probably not a good idea) but heard something pop and then high winding sound and throttle was making it move anymore because I just popped the drive belt and had to push it home after coasting as far as I could coming back up the hill then it sat and still is sitting nearly 5 years. crazy. but I got it running again ...well kinda...

will the ignition kit you recommended on shop this video work on a 06' SYM RS 50cc scooter?

I have a 150cc GY6 Chinese scooter that suddenly was not making spark. After watching umpteen videos and checking all ground connections, replacing the CDI, spark plug, coil, stator, starter relay and still not getting results a week later, I discovered a wire going to a switch on the side kick-stand. As it turns out, there is a safety switch on the side kick-stand to prevent the scooter from starting with both wheels on the ground and no rider when the stand is down. The starter will still turn-over but will not provide spark to the spark-plug. I wish some of these electrical trouble shooting videos would mention this switch as it would have saved me a week of time and considerable money.

+Mr. Bigfoot I'm not sure the 50cc's have this kick stand switch. I'll have to check that out. Appreciate you mentioning it for others to read, as you know, wasting time can be very frustrating. I remember several years ago I had a AC issue, where every once in awhile the a/c compressor would kick on, but it would kick back off immediately. It turned out, that the coolant temp sensor in the center of the cylinder head was slightly disconnected, and that was causing the whole issue. It turns out, the coolant temp sensor ran off the same wire that the a/c clutch did. Found out through several days of looking at schematics.

at least u have spare parts now. i took that fukin thing off the kick stand.

DON"T EVER START SCREWS WITH A POWERTOOL...ALWAYS START THEM BY HAND!!!! And another good tip is don't tighten your tire-lugs with a powertool, if you have to change the tire on the side of the road it will be too tight to remove by hand.

Thank you! Yes, pretty much all 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines all have the same design if we were to compare (EFI) and carburetor . Most carburetors are interchangeable from Honda, to even the GY6 Chinese scooters. Hello, I have a problem, I have a Peugeot Speedfight 1 100cc that recently seized up/heat seized. It was not tuned. I then changed the cylinder, piston etc. It now starts up right away, but after a while it dies all of a sudden (as if you had turned off the key) and then I can start it right up again, this usually happens when I go over 60 km/h or uphill. When I changed the cylinder etc, I also cleaned everything thoroughly, such as the carburettor, intake, new air filter, new fuel filter (there was no fuel filter before) new spark plug. I also removed the oil pump and put a metalplate with a gasket over the hole instead, I now mix the oil directly into the gasoline. Some other info that might be important. - When I drive over 60 km/h, it starts to make a noise from the variator (CVT), it´s sounds quite a lot. - When it died, I tried to start it again while it was rolling and then it started right away, but it made a noise from the variator, like something "let go" that had been seized up, like a rubber sound, maybe from the belt. - The variator belt touches the variator cover on the inside and has grinded a cut in the metal. - In the variator, where the weights are, the belt does not go down to the bottom of the wheel. - The clutch bell had turned blue from the heat. - The place where the connecting rod attaches to the crankshaft had turned blue from heat. - There was no fuel filter on it before. But i now saw there is an internal fuel filter in the gastank, can it affect the vacuum if you now have 2 fuel filters. Please help me. Regards Andree.

Three things, stator could be getting wet and shorting out, ignition coil and spark plug wire could be getting wet and shorting out, and lastly the CDI underneath the floor mat where your feet go could be getting wet and shorting out. Check those three things to see if they're getting damp, or any water is in the connectors.

what would you recommend if after taking the white plastic fan with the four screws off and the bolt holding the magneto in is so stripped that you cant get it off to even get to the stator? mine is so stripped ive broken sockets and the bolt is round no edges anymore. I even bought a bolt removal kit and those won't turn it either. it's driving me bananas and have given up on ideas. will heat work? can you test the stator without having to take it off the bike?

When testing the plug you can use "T" push pins, they will not enlarge the hole

Great video. I am having a starting problem... I seem to get 1-3 sparks only and then nothing. These 1-3 sparks only occur if you turn the key and immediately hit the start button. If you wait to hit the start button even 2-3 seconds after you turn the key on, zero sparks. I have already replaced the stator, CDI and coil. Because the routine is consistent I am pretty confident it is not wiring? Not sure what else to check or replace?????

I have a UM Matrix GY6 150cc the lights come on and everything just won’t start up, and seen a wire electrifying with another wire, not sure what the deal is with that.

If the stator is wet is it posdible to get damagef or destroyed?

How do you know for sure you have AC or DC ignition system? I put in new 8 post stator I gave a blast of starting fluid, it fired up ran for about 3-5 seconds. I tried again, now won't run, no spark.

If you have DC you will have 12v at the CDI when you turn the key before starting. If it's AC there will be no power at the CDI. This is all accurate as long as everything is working properly and your battery is putting it 12v. AC doesn't need a battery for the bike to run and generate power, DC needs a battery to run.

Also, DC does not have a red wire that goes to the CDI and back to the stator.

Won.t start. Plentt of fire but the gas doesn't seem to be get to the carburetor

So I have wolf scooter that did not have spark. So I replaced the coil, CDI, and stater still no spark, I also check the kill switch any suggestions?

I can't seem to find my specific scooter ANYWHERE online! It's a 2011 kaitong md50qt-5. It only has 300 miles on it and only used premium gas. at this time it won't start up at all since the key was left on accessory and the battery died, after jumping it-nothing but the accessories work. prior to this, the scooter was running and driveable but seemed like it was not getting out of gear or something...It would only go so fast in the first gear...any help would be greatly appreciated or even just being pointed in the right direction to somewhere with information on my specific scooter maybe? thanks! -Jessi

+Jessi A you may need to check the bus fuse by the battery for corrosion or possibly even blown. As for Gears, I'm not sure if yours has a transmission but the majority of scooters run on variators. Basically little roller weights that move up and down allowing the variator to move in and out moving the belt higher or lower. It could be that your roller weights have flat spots and are getting stuck.

your right 3 things y a scooter wont start cdi stator coil. check the air gap between the flywheel and pick up.

i just replaced the cdi 3 months ago last week it fuked up. i uhooked the wires from the stator used a multimeter it was good i checked the the other wires cdi didnt have a reading this shit isnt difficult. 90percent when u have no spark its that cheap piece of shit cdi.

Wil the kit work on a 50cc?

Can you please explain why there's no ground wire on some gy6 50 cc stators. While on 110cc n up there is a ground wire.

I dont have one either on my stator. its just got white and yellow but I dont think they are necessary but if they arent then I guess why would some have a green and some not. you ever find out your answer

Hi sir. A girl sat on my scooter real hard & the ignition switch immediately stop working. However I was able to kick start it twice. I rode for a few miles & it just died. Wont start at all but horn and power is still going thru it. Im confused.

Hey I'm currently working with an issue with starting my scooter. It's practically new. I was changing the variator rollers and I decided it was a good idea to use the flywheel as a way to hold it to get the nut off the variator. When I put the plastic piece back on the flywheel I accidentally used a longer bolt, then tried starting it. I noticed later the stator was a little ripped up. It doesn't start now, so could this be my issue why it doesn't start? Btw it started right before I decided to do this change in rollers

wait arent the variator rollers on the other side of the bike where the clutch and kick start are? the flywheel and stator are on the other side with the oil dipstick.

I had the same problem on mine. I replace the spark plug cdi box and spark plug coil. My moped doesn’t have the stator there is no videos about my moped stator. Luckily I just recharge my battery and that was it my moped if fix. But it is Wierd that it doesn’t have a stator as all the mopeds I’ve seen on this videos 2016 sym hd200 Evo.

Hello. Great video mate thanks!. I am looking for an opinion about my current situation with a mechanic. Recently my scooter stopped working at the side of the road. The lights came on the display, everything normal, but it just would not start. No noise at all. Took it to a mechanic who said they are 99% sure it is the ECU. I bought ECU £360 ( not cheap ). They put it on and said it has got the fuel pump working again but still the scooter isn't working. They have had my scooter for a long time, and now they are saying it is the generator I need. Now I am looking at buying one for £200 ( not cheap ). I am now getting suspicious. Did it really need a ECU? I think they took a guess and made me buy one when it wasn't needed. I think the fuel pump story is a cover up. They are saying that if I get a generator it may still need something else like a new wiring loom or something. Seriously I am supposed to buy these things one after the other with cash I do not have? The scooter has done 59000 miles, but the engine was changed at 50000, so the stator ( generator ) has not got much use at all. My previous stator was still fine after 500000, which I no longer have. Here is what I cannot get my head round. What are the odds that when I pulled up at the side of the road to have a short rest, both the ECU and the generator packed in at the same time? I just cannot believe this is the case. Especially when the generator has done such low milage. My scooter is at a garage in bits, and I now feel reluctant to buy this generator for them to put in. I have lost my trust and faith in the company. Please can you give me your opinion on both these parts failing at the exact same time I pulled over? Am I right to feel suspicious? Many thanks

It could be a whole host of things. The first thing I would ask them is to replace the new parts with your old parts, since the new parts did not fix the issue. That's what we call "Throwing Parts At It". Have them only charge you for diagnostic labor. The first steps I would have taken with this type of troubleshooting would be: 1) Check and see if the fuel pump primes and produces fuel out of the fuel line. 2) Turn the engine over and see if it's producing any spark from the spark plug. 3) Test to make sure the ECU is getting 12v. 4) Test the resistance on the coil pack. 5) Check to make sure the bike has a good ground. 6) Test the resistance of the stator. 7) Since this bike is (EFI) *electronic fuel injected, I would place an injector test light on the fuel clip and turn the engine over to see if the ECU is pulsing the injectors. 8) If the ECU is getting 12v then you can pull up a wiring schematics for the ECU and find out which wires lead to the injectors and which wires lead to the coil. Test and make sure the proper output voltage is being supplied. 9) This should probably be the first thing to do. Run a compression test just to make sure the cylinder has the correct compression. Too low of compression and the bike won't fire. 10) Set a multimeter to continuity and test for any breaks in the wires. This can also be performed with an induction meter. Running the tester along the wires, it will detect a break in the wire if there is one. Hope this gives you a good reference.

Hey buddy I need your help. I recently installed an 80cc big bore kit on my 50cc gy6. I verified the timing, gapped the valves properly, gapped the spark plug properly, oiled my parts. Placed my piston rings properly with all ring gaps away from each other, Checked my fuel lines etc... yet it doesn’t want to start. I tried foot cranking and electric start. I tried starter fluid and nothing. All parts have no cracks and seem good.

I have a 2002 kymco cobra with no spark I replaced the CDI Box Spark Plug Ignition coil and stator. I was thinking its kill switch but when I unplug the right hand control still no spark when I try to crank it it will crank but it will also crank in the off position? Also my battery is very low from trying to crank I hear a click sound coming from the battery compartment but when I kick start it it charges the battery a little bit so it will crank with the electric start any advice?

The click is the solinoid asking for power. Check your grounds. All else fails cut the black wire with the white stripe that's the kill switch going to your cdi. It will deactivate every safety component that wont let it start.

My tank scooter won't hold a charge. Put in new batterie. I have to jump start to get it started ???

+Pam Skogen Sounds like your rectifier is bad or your stator. Battery is not getting recharged. Or there is a short somewhere.

Both stators were good; the Ohms tests proved that. Stators very seldom go bad if they are not all blackened and burned; my guess is that it was a bad connection somewhere, and that it came back later on to fail to start again.

The first stator was bad. After replacing it with a new stator, the problem never returned, even till today. If I remember right, off camera I put the old stator back on after getting it running with the new stator and the old stator still would not work.

I think your cdi needs atleast 50vac to work. Mine had 36vac and would not power the cdi.

Hi my scooter starts with the kick but it won't start with the switch in the morning or it is left for more than 20 min. When it is hot it starts with electric switch. My battery is new. What could be the problem ?

Maybe the switch/ switch connectors or starter is no good. Test the starter with a wire tapping the + on the battery

Aurelian T Change all the fuel lines and fuel filter. First, remove the carb filter, spray either/starting fluid or even brake cleaner into the carb and crank. See if you're getting enough spark, sometimes the spark can be weak. Also, carburetors are really tuff to get clean. Make sure you take the main and idle jet completely out, hit them with a torch untill they turn red, then cool down and repeat. After that, take a welding tip cleaner kit, find the right size and put it inside the tiny jets to clean them out, make sure you don't make them any bigger then they are, or you will change the fuel ratio. Hope this helps.

sell it on Craigslist as is for like $150 see if someone else can figure which one out of 8 things can be wrong...these mopeds usually work for 2-4k thousand miles all sorts stuff wrong after that

Mine won't start unless I keep charging the battery. When battery is charged a . d scooter starts, the lights are dim and only get bright when I give it gas. As soon as I let off the throttle, the lights get dim again. What do I need to do to fix this issue ???

It's very possible you have a dead cell in your battery. I would have the battery tested at a local auto parts store or even Walmart TLE can test it for you free of charge.

I checked the voltage coming out a.c. it just was jumping all over couldn't get a reading mine 50cc scooter will kick start but want fire up by turning it over I replaced the coil wire plug cdi oh and it cut off driving down the road up a hill do you think I need to replace the stator

Stator or your ignition module, aka "ignition key". I'd check the kill switch first, could be bad.

Im getting spark but won’t turn over bought a new battery for it and as soon as you jump it with a car battery (without the car being on) it’ll start like it’s brand new can you help me?

Cut the black wire with the white stripe. That's the safety switch activator. If that dosnt fix it could be the coil or the cdi itself also the stator

I own a 150cc 2009/ZHNG, it was working fine before just needed a new battery the owner that owned it before me had it sitting outside for 3 months, didn't even bother using it. I changed the battery (changed oil and fuel to be safe and cleaned it a bit.) and it was working OK, but suddenly it stopped. I tried to start it up ONCE, i hear a sound like its trying its a very brief moment, then suddenly NOTHING. won't even try to make the sound again. I can try to do it again but it'll only make the sound of trying to start once every few hours, then it'll shut itself off. won't even crank. I don't know what the issue can be I'm going to try to change the spark plug it may have gotten wet. if you have any tips i'll gladly take it.

i bost battery it start but then it hold charge abit when i drive it dies then make noise

So my problem is I just bought a new wire harness and I am getting no power what so ever.

Check your -grounds to make good contact.

Just change CDI to DC and China has a CDI direct replacement n connect to red wire to DC from ignition on + So no need to replace the stator (AC part if failed)

what if you have spark but it dont park on every kick its every other kick it sparks

It could be your rectifier/regulator or the stator its self. The two yellow wires are the ones that will send AC volts to the regulator then the regulator to the battery. If your volts are jumping crazy high and low it might be the regulator. Check you two yellow(some times one is white other yellow) wires make sure theres no breaks in the wire. If not change the regulator and last the stator. Cheap to most expensive....if you change the regulator make sure to disconnect you negative post too close circuit first before removal.
