Town watch have one redeeming quality, good shields. They can waste precious ammo of high damage archers and give time for light cav to flank unharmed.

thumbs up if you used onagers on the battlefield and they roasted your own units from behind.

Phalanx troops are meant to be OP imo, they can demolish ANY unit under one condition. The phalanx MUST hold, as soon as the formation breaks whether it be sacred band or militia hoplites the unit is as good as dead even if surrounded even by crap tier units, of course higher quality troops will hold out longer but the result is the same just with more casualties. The best phalanx troop for campaign has to be armoured hoplites, they take one turn to train, are very hardy in formation and can punish almost every unit except elite troops 1v1 even then they are very cost effective which is where the Greek cities gets it's power from, it's cost effective military and ridiculous economy.

Incredibly underrated channel, your content has helped me realize that the Julia aren’t as good as the Scipii and Brutii factions and just overall helped me throughout my campaigns, keep up the amazing work.

@@bigpapa880 Yes, and thats for scipii temples. Better for public order, and gives plus 1 armor, and unique ships. Julia are garbage, brutii are ok, but scipii are best.

@@lugotorix6173 yeh same for my Pontic campaign. After watching your tutorial, I am bossing Anatolia and the middle east. Time to hit Macedonia, which destroyed the rest of Greece.

A very late comment, but a fun fact for you: the italian translation changes the names of the families to make them slightly more historical. The Bruti are called Valeri and the Scipii are the Corneli.

No temple overview in here :( And scipii have the best temples -> which give them deceres and +1 lvl armor/melee for troops.

Once I rushed at Apollonia, Grece and Balkans so badly, that the Brutii tried to take what remained of north Africa. Funny prank was that I already conquered it all, so they had left just Leptis Magna. I feel a bit bad for what I did to them. I also took Patavium and Noricum just to annoy the Giulii.

I think the Scipii should be renamed to the Cornelia as the actual Scipii were actually a branch family of the Cornelia gens.

So does Brutii. It should have been Junii. Or, the game should have just make Julii, house Caesar. And explain the naming system as Legal Name, Dynasty Name, House Name, Informal name and/or nickname. Translating Gens as tribes lead to bigger problems for modern audience and foreign historians. Trust me I have tried.

@@medalex195322 while there was a Bruttia gens they were a very minor gens never able to achieve any magistrate of importance until the late 1st century AD when Lucius Bruttius Maximus became proconsul of Cyprus in AD 80 .

In the unit roster You forgot to comment what is the main strength of the Scipii versus the other Roman factions in the civil war at the end: The navy. The Scipii is the main naval faction. The lower three vessels are same as the other Romans but sometime during the game the Senate will probably award You the Quinquereme as a reward for some mission well done. This can only be built in cities after visiting this port in the early game and only some port with a higher rated port with a temple to Neptun in the city - make sure to have such a temple in a city somewhat away from the frontline, I like to have it at Syracuse. They are very slow to build - 3 rounds - but OMG they simply said RULE! Keep them in a numerous fleet as trump aces, then they won´t take much damage in sea battles.

Scipii seem like a good faction to turtle with, North Africa is easy to defend so you could build up your economy quite a lot in safety

I love using like war dog units like all the time cause every where. Cause of how cheap they actually are to maintain. Like 20 Denari a turn or something

triarii arent the only early game spearmen, town watch get tanti-cav bonus (check in the export_descr_unit file if you dont believe me). I've also tested the vs early game cavalry and they seem to hold up equal to or better than hastati, but it seems to depend on the unit they're against, as well as whether or not the hastati fire multiple volleys of pila

I have two questions first whn I attacked a city I was fighting elephants 3x size and archers on back still took city but could not kill them and in this faction I got a set of gladiators with no armor n I don’t see that I can recruit or raise

Actually spartans and royal pikemen and sacred band can beat a unit one on one of cohorts easily.But yeah uc too op

bill lumperopoulos of course, if you just walk into the front of the pikes.... the point is, pikemen suck in melee with words, so you have to keep them in pikewall, while the cohors can run around, get the pila in and use their superior speed to get an advantageous engagement

Testudo can push through the phalanx and then explode back into regular formation and split the phalanx.

Before the heat of the main battle I have the artillery bombard the enemy and have my troops sweep them up especially if the onagers are inside a fort. The enemy would frightened by the barrage. Then they flee

The Scipii definitely have an interesting campaign. I've played the Julii more times I can count and it's a nice breath of fresh air. Definitely play on VH/VH otherwise the challenge isn't there. Taking Syracuse is brutal on that difficulty. Dealing with Carthage's Elephants is a huge pain in the ass too. Love it. Also you are pretty well situated for the inevitable civil war. The A.I doesn't like to use boats, so it's doubtful that sicily will be in much danger.

Actually on bridge battles the heavier artillery are good at targetting large clusters and do so much damage in seiges in lower levels as each hit hills at least 8 soldiers upto at least 20 solders each

if you have 2 heavy artillery and you play perfectly you can get at least 100 kills each and for factions like pontus with large size armes over 200 each

Wait a minute I have a question. I played this game when I was a kid and not ever online so I am confused because my unit counts were always different. I had 12 Arcani and 60 ish Hestati. What is that all about? Did I have different settings? Also what is that unit with 122 troops, how do you get that unit?

You can change the amount of soldiers per unit in settings, from small to medium, large or huge (200 soldiers per unit)

He doesn't get the unit Tiers right. He doesn't get triarii right, he doesn't get first cohort right, he gets cav wrong... mostly he doesn't know what a unit is used for and how to abuse them in campaign mode. For example first cohort would be to extensive to use as a normal unit. They get the Attribute Command though which acts as a moral buff to adjecent units.

@Lugotorix do you really think you know the game??! dude you cant forget PRINCIPES!!!! Aand in most campaigns if you build army and expand - as you supposed to do - you wont be able to recruit them before marian reforms. So principes will be ur best bet if going for quality over quantity. (This logic is the explanation of my first statement..)

Because in campaign the battles are more exciting and winning or losing matters. Like getting one of your settlements attacked by a huge army while the army inside your city is half the size and the fate of the settlement depends on your victory
