As a Canadian, 33f is approaching springtime temperatures, lol. In all seriousness, pls be safe everyone in Iceland. Pls listen to the geologists and the volcanologist(s) you have there. ❤ from 🇨🇦

Boy, you really milked this one for the drama. The shots you used are over 36 hours old (it doesn’t look like that anymore - down to 2-3 cones instead of a 4 km fissure), only one town nearby, and people have been in and out of it getting their pets and things and checking their houses prior to the eruption, and the air borne gas that is being tweaked for drama is vog, which is normal around eruptions and has varying levels of danger (from nuisance upward). What poor quality click bate reporting.

you do realise volcanoes have been erupting for as long as earth has existed? quite the opposite to this dramatic report, volcanoes are creators. Iceland wouldn’t even exist if not for the regular flow of magma to the surface in that part of the world!
If this was in Canada Gilbeaut would suggest a higher carbon tax will prevent future lava flows.

I love the fact that the authorities claim they don't want tourists arriving to endanger themselves watching the volcanoes - but don't seem to be doing anything to actually stop them arriving. Forbidding hotels from accepting new bookings and stopping tourist agencies from arranging flights for all except Icelandic people themselves would be the easiest option. But obviously no one is really that bothered if tourists are still arriving. I just hope the situation doesn't get substantially worse very quickly (after all, this event erupted just when they thought the situation was easing), because as well as shipping out a load of sightseers to their home countries, they might have to ship out a load of Icelanders too. It's not like there's a spare city for the people of Reykjavik to move into. At this time of year as well, they could hardly be put into tents. They would have to be flown to the nearest host countries for support - and quickly.

The journalists are going where they are told to go, checking in and checking out with the authorities so they know where they are, and staying in their assigned and allowed areas. Tourists are sneaking around the roadblocks and hiking cross country trying to get close enough for a selfie for their social media and a bragging rights "live blogging from the lava ... red hot stories!" vlog.

I see that the reporters are there with professionals who know the area and know the dangers. Some tourists just walk blindly into the dark and into the frozen landscape. Yesterday a tourist was saved by chance. A small airplane had been at the volcano, when it was returning, crew on the craft saw SOS signs from some kind of lamp (was a pocket light, it turned out). The aircraft called for help and circled the man for one hour until help on the ground arrived. This man was lucky, brought to hospital and treated. Who is going to PAY for this? Icelandic tax-payers, that´s who. I urge tourists to HEED THE WARNINGS, not show middle finger to people who try to keep you from danger (yes, many tourists do that, show middle finger to rescue personel - who, BTW, are volunteers in Iceland.)
CO-2 levels will be going up and there ain't nothing you can do about it.

Fun fact for today: Human activity produces up to 100 times as much CO2 as all volcanoes erupting in a given year. Keep in mind that volcanic eruptions are usually brief where as people are producing CO2 24/7 year round.

This reporter in the capital speaks really well. Thank you sir. Wish more people speak that way.
Boy, this is a lesson in how a piece of news can be overdramatized . The gases involved are NOT lethal except in high concentrations in calm weather VERY close to the eruption. Any gases drifting towards populated areas (unlikely given the current weather forecast) will be so diluted that they will only be a mild nuisance (a bad smell) to most people, only adversely affecting very few sensitive individuals.
Old news. Not really a problem.
yea...this is just effects after eating Taco Bell.....which does create toxic gas...
