What if they get to the city, try being together but end up meeting the other guy and his robot. The robots fall in love and the humans are left behind.

A world full of the living dead. The ones still alive suffering tremendously, more than anything humanly bearable in the long term. There’s always been aspects of this in society but now it’s too much. It suffocates life. It has to separate off from the world of the living, or end. Over a century ago, the Theosophists theorized that it separates off into another realm that looks like Earth called “the 8th Sphere”. Apparently, we all have to pass through it. We’re probably even living in it now. That’s why you hear all the talk about us living in a “simulation”. After however many years, the people who are still alive inside pass out of it, while others must remain there for however long until they can join the world of the living. Maybe some of them never leave. I don’t know.

@@skyblack433 The problem is that we need to expand our definition of “human” and “robot”. The robot and the teenage girl in the film are far more human than the other things that call themselves human in the film, who are the actual robots. You also hear them say that they’re taking drugs to make them not feel anything. If you choose not to feel and process your emotions for long enough, it eventually disqualifies you from life, or feeling alive. There would be no Free Will otherwise. Here’s the even darker truth: Those robotic humans feel a lot. They feel hatred and an unquenchable desire to destroy anything that still feels alive. They’re aligned to death and the deepest pits of hell where they came from. The drugs that numb them just allow them to go “living” in a way that appears “normal”, with no cause for concern. Inside, they’re full of violence and lack the ability to love. Outside, they’re upstanding citizens. How many people do you know like this?

Quinn asks Michael what he wants out of his life, as if this was something every human would easily be able to answer. If that's so, I may be a robot, because just like Michael, I haven't figured it out yet.

I agree with a previous comment, for me, it was the food that really sold this film! It's quite accurate to what would be expected. A color theme that feels separated from the origin ingredients. An unusually presentation focused meal within the home setting. The completely flat and mirrored plates made it feel particularly futurist. (Squid is supposed to be particularly plentiful in an acidified ocean, which makes me believe this presentation was carefully thought out.)

@@14s0cc3r14 I'm one of those ppl that is skeptic but somehow still believes there's something more than just the brain that makes us live and think etc. A living being develops itself in unpredictable ways. A machine is completely predictable and if it isn't then it's considered a bad machine. Machines are just materials put together in such a way that they have no option but to behave the way you want, because of physics etc. So computers don't obey people, they're just matter behaving in the only way it behave also 'computers' include AI, since anything that runs on a hardware is basically part of the hardware. So they're not alive, they're just mechanical pieces moving and working in the only way physics etc will allow them to

@@daviviana8016 If humans can have "something more" that is outside the realm of physics -- undetectable and unmeasurable -- then a given computer, program, or robot could have "something more" as well. You cannot say it's not there just because you cannot detect it and cannot explain how it got there. You cannot detect the "something more" in a human, and you cannot explain how it got there. (If you claim it got there because Odin or Zeus or Ixchel or some other Great Being put it there, then someone can claim the same thing about their robot, and you have no grounds for disputing them -- unless you allow them the very same grounds for disputing you.) So if it is valid to assert that humans have "something more" while offering nothing more than your belief, then it's valid to asset that robots could have the same "something more" without needing to prove it at all. I personally think that it's more productive to recognize that consciousness can arise in something which is purely physical (such as a human brain), and really wrestle with the consequences which that entails for constructing increasingly complex machines.

I was thinking about the memory cartridge. It looks similar to materials of plastic housing with a mini CD or Laser Disk inside. For me, it gives this impression of impermanence. As though the memory cartridge was intentionally designed to fail. That may seem like a stretch, but it's really not. Early laser disk included plastic that degrades on it's own, but also the solvent in the layers of glue remained active. Particularly due to the type of glue all laser disk of a certain type will certainly become useless over time. For me, this all highlights the precarious nature of falling in love. The memory cartridge being shown early, (about 2 minutes in), is really helpful in demonstrating she knows she is taking a risk of experiencing loss when entwining her life with this android.

Great story . . . maybe only just a bit ahead of its time. However, couldn't help but notice the cheesey ancient optical disk (maybe you wanted the memory metaphor to be obvious to the viewer, but really, it could have at least been some sort solid state device). Ironically, here in the "real" world of the moment, (mostly) guys are actually falling in love with their virtual online AI girlfriends . . . the film "Her" comes to mind, but I digress.

A robot/AI just react as programmed. Similarities to a actor pretending to be someone else, following a script/storyline. Can be a kind of advanced ChatGPT, that relative to keywords and algorithms then randomly select words to put together. Many enough have over time fell in love (assumed) by just words trough physical letters or digital systems, where in reality they fell in love with their own fantasy and assumptions. Then at last meet where live close day after day will reveal the reality, often the dreams crumbles. Also have that different psychological factors might make you think you are in love, when in reality the feelings are due to other issues.
