    Hilarious. Arnold explaining away his father's Nazi behavior saying "they were lied to, mislead." Oh, REALLY! After 50 million deaths in WWll. Arnold has still to this day failed to connect the historical dots. Arnold's a Republican, and Republicans don't think. They strategize for one purpose: POWER.

    While living in Los Angeles in the mid-90's I had the pleasure of meeting Arnold while I was working as a driver for the Austrian Consulate and my job was to drive around the Defense Minister of Austria and his wife. The Austrian group went one day to meet Arnold on set of a movie that he and Sinbad were working on. Arnold was very gracious to show us his work out gym inside of a tractor trailer and also to invite us to his restaurant in Santa Monica. He was very down to earth and easy to chat with.

    He is such an intelligent, pragmatic guy. I'm the daughter of an East German emigré who lived through the end of WWII and Nazi Germany and its aftermath on one side, and the granddaughter of two German emigrés who met in the US after coming here in the 1920s and both lived through WWI. I had a lot of family on both my mom and Dad's sides who lived through WWII, the Third Reich, and the aftermath of war ... some who stayed there and some who later emigrated to the States; and I am also a poli Sci major with a concentration in European history. Arnold Schwarzenegger made and televised the most insightful public speech after the January 6th insurrection, talking about how he saw all the angry, bitter, disillusioned German men.who dealt with processing the ir shame, guilt, and just emotional shell-shockedness at the ugliness of the 3rd Reich, in its aftermath, and he echoed a lot of thoughts that I'd been having about the eerie similarities between Trump and his most steadfast followers and Hitler and his. Something maybe you have to be German or Austrian to really, really know and get. His accuracy was impeccable. So, if he is saying now that it is unlikely that Trump will.win in 2024, that makes me breathe a lot easier. Bc he knows the phenomenon intimately, and knows the modern Republican party so well, from.the top.

    I admire his efforts to slow climate change. Arnold urges everyone to significantly cut back on meat for the environment. The most effective way to do that is to eliminate beef from your diet, and replace it with plant based protein sources. The lead author of the most comprehensive study on the effect of food production on the environment (Joseph Poore of Oxford) said that eliminating animal products from your diet is the single most effective way to minimize your environmental footprint. The study is by Poore and Nemecek.

    I worked as a pool cameraman ( from CBS Sacramento ) while Governor Schwarzenegger was in South Lake Tahoe, for a destructive fire that almost consumed most of that area in 2007. While riding with him and his crew, I noticed how passionate he appeared in getting logistics done with little fervor. For example, at one point, he wanted to visit a blood bank to talk to people donating to the injured fire fighters/families who were hit from the fire. His attendants insisted that Arnold speak at a local school instead. He picked the school and called someone else to get things in motion. Before he gave that speech, I asked him how he views himself ( then ) as a politician versus being an actor and what he learned ( so far ) as governor. His answer stunned me ( and he almost used the same answer for a 2010 Vanity Fair interview ). He said: " The biggest thing I learned is Washington D.C. has power but no money and Hollywood has money but no power and negotiating between the two is far more challenging that lifting dead weights. " Smart man. He really does care about the people around him. He's human like everyone else. But he really did work to make sure people would come out OK during his tenure.

    I am 70 years old. When Arnold was talking about climate change, and its relationship to pollution, he is absolutely right. As a child growing up, we talked about pollution all the time, and I have noted through the years that terminology got changed to global warming, and then to climate change. It’s about the pollution and alway has been.

  • @Caderynwolf

    @Caderynwolf

    11 ай бұрын

    global warming and climate change are two different things, it's not terminology that got changed. Pollution has caused global warming, global warming leads to climate change. The reason global warming became an issue was because nobody wanted to do anything about pollution at the time, and this gave a "this is what is going to happen if we don't do these very simple minor and frankly zero-cost things now" - 1997 kyoto protocal that built upon the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, because so little was do in regards to pollution there is now a time-limit in order to avoid any adverse change at all... that was 10-20 years in the future if started immediately. 20 years later not only was nothing done but the usa (under Bush Jr 2001-2009) literally made it worse, so then at the time it went from requiring the bare minimum that cost next to nothing (just upgrading some factories to filter out pollution) to "we now have to do these things that will actually cause a little pain and cost a bit of money, but avoid catastrophe", usa again made everything worse and grew the "denier" movement and globally preventing efforts, and now we are the stage where we are actually so far past the worst-case scenario outlined in 1992 and even 1997 that it's a matter of no longer avoiding catastrophe but outright apocalyptic climate change (literal survival) within 100 years (as in our literal potential extinction). pollution causes global warming, global warming changes the climate, and critically the major sea currents, if the sea currents go then its game over, and they are already in danger of changing. Not to mention global warming also endangers the perma-frost, we can survive the ice age - we are currently in an inter-glacial period of our current ice age, ice age ends when the permafrosts of antartica, arctic, and greenland have melted - suddenly ending, but most plants can't, they require thousands of years of slow adjustment, and if the plants go then so does all complex life, because oxygen.

    @@Caderynwolf that was a great response. Thank you for those insights. I personally just noticed through the years how the word pollution seemed to die out, global warming became a sort of boogeyman. Then, when we’d have unprecedented winter weather, the politicians would laugh and say there was no global warming. Subsequently the fashionable term became climate change and it became almost taboo to say global warming. Corporations, who are mostly responsible for the pollution, buy the politicians and the media so they can keep polluting. I have always maintained when discussing the issue that it all goes back to pollution. Again, I sincerely appreciated your informed response.

    @@mitchellwilley7208 It's an unfortunate update because the climate has always been changing. I live in an area that was covered by kilometers of ice during one maximum (ice age) and the other maximum was far more warm than right now. We are currently between those. This cycle has been going on forever, from long before humans even existed. That's the natural climate change, which is more dramatic than the one caused by pollution right now, albeit the pollution caused one is faster. So, calling the pollution caused one merely climate change is bad marketing, like Arnold said.

    His comments about those who peddle hate always ending up losing resonated with me. I think most of us, certainly me, have always looked at human choices as being either ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ and as a result we are left endlessly debating because of our inherent free will. We in this country often think in terms of our ‘rights’ which is kinda the same argument over what exercising our free will should look like and what are the boundaries that we can all agree on. I have shifted my personal view and now try to think in terms of my responsibilities as opposed to my rights. If I’m alone on the island then I can do whatever I choose. If someone else washes up one day then each of us must factor the other in our choices in order for it to function acceptably. We are far from alone on this island and to behave as though our personal free will is more important than our shared responsibilities is to live in a false reality and will never succeed in the long run. Respect to Arnold.

The fact that he is still involved in communities just like the one I grew up with says a lot. Arnold is quite simply a very cool guy. My sister used to work in a paint factory in Mississauga or West Toronto and there was an Austrian guy who worked in the back who knew and who grew up with Arnold. He told my sister that he was not at all surprised about his trajectory. He told her that Arnold was the most goal-oriented, focused person that he had ever met, so that if he matriculated it was because he had laser-like focus, he never doubted he could do it. On top of it all, he is not arrogant and self-absorbed. I do think, however, that because he is such a genuinely good-natured man, that he fails to see the absolute abominable phenomenon of Trump as cult-like figure for zombies, 80 million of them. That is a force of human stupidity too powerful to defeat. So I am afraid that you are all going to get the Donald again, the most vile man to ever occupy any kind of office on the earth. God save us all. Having faith in the goodness of humanity and being a decent person does not trump the onslaught of beggardly latrine ooze. That stuff covers the U.S.A. now from the inner sanctum. It is too late for you as a people. You have embraced moral vacuity, greed, narcissism and cruelty. Therefore you are finished as a nation. It is only a matter of time until the nuclear dust covers you.

    My favorite Arnold story was how he became a Republican to start with. It wasn't because "Liberals are idiots" or "Democrats are evil". He came to the US during the 1968 election between Nixon and Humphrey after escaping socialism in Austria. He didn't speak English and knew nothing of American politics or parties and said he wanted to listen to the candidates and decide based on their merit. He said made a friend who spoke English watch a debate with him and translate it for him. He heard Humphrey saying things that reminded him of what he just left and why he wanted to escape to America. Then he heard Nixon speak about free enterprise, less government involvement in lives, etc. He asked his friend what party Nixon was and when his friend said Republican, Arnold said "then I am a Republican".

    I worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger for 9 months while filming Terminator 2. A fun fact about Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator 2. It is what showed the world The Rodney King beating. We did not know, but we were setting up history by accident. Officer Wind came to the set Regularly. There are 3 (,4 if you count the bar) scenes in Terminator 2 that shows were Rodney King got beat by police. 7 days after we left that location. You see the guy that filmed the Rodney King beating. Had his Camera pointed at Arnold Schwarzenegger trailer. The whole time we were filming Terminator 2 their. When the Terminator is telling John about what happened on the motorcycle. Look in the background. You will see trucks and a white trailer. That white trailer is Arnold Schwarzenegger trailer and the exact same spot Rodney King beating took place. The dude never removed the tripod nor the camera from his balcony after we left. The other 2 scenes are the Phone both with the 2 guys he almost killed. That was across the street. And the entrance of The Terminator across the street. If we do not film Terminator 2 at that location. No one in the world would have known about Rodney King. I told Arnold Schwarzenegger about that coincidence. He said " Good"! He is not an American Republican by any means.

    @@Jerry-tv4bg The guy's a jumped-up used car salesman. He lost the popular vote in 2016. He lost the midterms. And he lost 2020. But he was too much of a p*ssy to take it like a man and wish the new president well and step away with grace and dignity. Even his worst enemies would have respected that. Instead, he went home to feel sorry for himself and blubber and wet the bed - no wonder Melania doesn't want to sleep with him. You got played, dude. I know a man will cut off his left nut before admitting that he got played but got played you did, my friend, got played you did. Not only did he take your vote, he took your integrity and honor - if you ever had any. And, let's not forget, he took your money. The funny thing is how incredibly easy it was for him to do so.
