"The Home Birth Option"
Schuyler Grant demystifies the Home Birth option at the SPEAKEASY Lecture Series at Wanderlust Festival in Lake Tahoe, CA in July of 2010.
Schuyler discusses the issues involved in coming to the decision to have a child at home, as well as the statistics and the expectations that come with such a process. Having had three children at home, she advocates for Home Birth on many levels - on behalf of the mother, the child, the partner. She shares a most candid and well-balanced viewpoint on what you need to know if you are considering Home Birth.
In addition to being the co-creator of Wanderlust Festival, Schuyler is the director of Kula Yoga Project in New York City. Developer of a popular style of vinyasa called Kula Flow, known for its emphasis on intelligent alignment and high creativity, she has been singled out by the New York Times as the go-to teacher in New York for advanced-level practice. One ingredient that characterizes Schuyler's teaching is the addition of bandha work to the traditional blend of breath and asana. She takes great pleasure in sharing the recipe with her students.

Stay tuned for more speakers in this series, including Shiva Rea, Adrien Grenier & Peter Glatzer, Chris Sharma, Schuyler Grant, Mariel Hemingway, and many more....

Glad to see her after many years of being Diana Barry of AOGG. Very lovely and seems she's so nice. I see from her smile the young Diana Barry.

I was watching this as I was watching scenes with Diana and trying to compare. It's hard with the hair, but it's always there if you see the shape of their mouth.

Thank you for posting this great video on what a birth should be and can be. I have been through a planned water birth in a hospital, which turned into an induction and almost c section, and then a transformational planned water birth at home. I truly appreciate your words your slide show. Brought tears to my eyes.

I would say the number one consideration is not that the mother is comfortable but that the baby is at the very best advantage to be birthed safely. I had three babies in a birthing center connected to a hospital, and needed a little help two of the three times. Three vaginal births, no meds. I think this option is the best of both worlds.

Great speech. Sure would like to see sometimes stats on kids born with birth problems that cause permanent problems. I know two people who had a baby at home that didn't get the oxygen they needed and wound up with permanent limitations. I don't know if that is a cautionary tale or not.
