This section of Schopenhauer should be read as a public health announcement on all media platforms. Including the first paragraph on envy! Which is rampant in our culture. The idea that people are to bare responsibility for how their lives have turned out is "odd" for the 21st century, demonstrates our failure to prepare our youth to meet life's struggles. How can one adjust and learn from mistakes if we are unwilling to accept the part our choices have made in the making of our lives. I heard from the time I was 10 years old..."you made your bed now lie in it" . When life throws a blow I was told to "roll with the punches". I know these are now bizarre and old fashioned expressions, but they taught me to be resilient and have ownership for my life. The only exception to this would be someone with below normal IQ.

Genetic determinism and the blackpill prove otherwise . Your life and how it was going to play out was decided in the womb

TY...i very much appreciate this channel. Not only Schopenhauer, but the evenness of the delivery, low keyed and pleasant.

I don’t think Schopenhauer is telling us what to do here, at times. I’m not sure he’s telling us, don’t blame outside forces. He’s telling us the way things are. In fact, he might be arguing against the idea of blaming ourselves.
