Thanks for the video. Quick question do you have a video. Parking in a 45 degree angle parking spot going front ward and backing in. Alot of the schoolbus are parking that way at the bus station to get more buses at schools as well.

I currently do not have a video demonstrating the angled parking spot. I will see what I can do to create one. Thanks for the suggestion.

Are you pulling into a school and angling in? If so, are you pulling in from the left or from the right? Our district restricts backing up at all of our schools, whenever possible…

@@SchoolBusSass pulling into a school to drop kids off. All the bus are in angle// like that in row. So more buses can fit in . So I pull in next to angle parking spot. Now when I pull into the bus yard there are lined up on angle as well. If you come late the only spot that might be open Is in the front row. So you have to back in. On a angle//. So if you know of any reference points that might help. Send them my way. // . For example i pull in front of // and try to back in. So the question would be where should the bus be position. Before I make turn. What would be a good reference point ? . Thank you

I’d sure like a, lol, option in addition to the thumbs up icon. My biggest fans perhaps…😂 all kidding aside…different strokes for different folks. To each, their own. Thanks for the smile, Paul!

I Have Seen Bus Drivers In My District Make An Angle With Their Bus Toward The Left Curb And Then Do The Maneuver. Their Is An Alternative To Get To My Bus Stop In The Afternoon And I Would Prefer That Way So I Do Not Have To Cross In Front Of The Bus Should I Just Ask Them To Use That Way?

Which method do you prefer? The method in the video, or pulling left of center?

Doesn’t Matter, My Point Is, My Bus Can Either Reverse Or Make A Big Square Turn Around So I Do Not Have To Cross In Front Of The Bus, I Do Not Think That Is As Safe, I Have Heard At Times It Is Flat Out Unsafe.

I can think of two instances where crossing over traffic becomes necessary aside from those two exceptions, I would not choose to do the turnaround by crossing left of center. I agree, it is not safe.

Hmm... I see faults with that reversing.... I do several turnabouts a day and mine are way better... 1st...Do NOT beep your horn unless you want to wake and annoy people sleeping in houses all around when you're picking up at 5:45AM. 2nd... When reversing your partner should be looking out the back window, checking for hazards. 3rd... While reversing you should be checking through the windshield and windows for traffic and hazards and the mirrors too - not just looking at your lower right mirror. Looking in your lower right mirror alone makes for a very pretty turn but that's not the real world. In the real world you're looking for vehicles, children, people, pets etc

Our district policy requires us to use audible back up sound and horn, before backing. They, meaning our district, also do what they can to eliminate turn arounds, whenever possible. We do not have the luxury of having a partner, or monitor on our general population busses, so utilizing all of our mirrors becomes just as important as traffic checks are...before, during and after your maneuver. The general purpose of this training video, is to aid new drivers on techniques for T-intersection turn arounds, and give them an idea of what it will look like from the drivers view, as well as from the outside. The camera limits what I can focus on at one time. I am certain any new drivers, On Board Instructor, will highlight additional safety measures for successful backing maneuvers. Good to know you are skilled in your maneuvers. Thanks for your comment and feedback...all the best in 2021.

@@SchoolBusSass All our busses have back up alarms which can't be silenced but at least they're quieter than the horn. I drive special needs so most of the time I have an aide. I think in 5 years I have driven regular route maybe a couple of dozen times at most. To be frank, I'm uncomfortable driving regular route because of the lack of an aide and the general noise regular kids make whereas my special needs kids are usually silent, tourettes notwithstanding. On my routes I have to do a lot of turn arounds. In one district I had to do 8 rail crossings per run as the area was criss-crossed with railway lines. I had to know how to navigate around slow and stationary trains via alternate routes. The rule about not stopping within 100 feet of a junction is one I often cannot obey when I am obliged to stop outside a student's house and that house is close to a junction. The best I can do in such cases is make sure the back end isn't sticking out into the road.
