Schmincke Horadam special edition Ultimate Mixing set and Exceptional Colours set - 1st impressions

Schmincke presents two special editions sets of Horadam artist grade watercolor, both composed by Evan Woodruffe: the Ultimate Mixing set and the Exceptional Colours set. I ordered a few extra colors for my Horadam collection to be able to put these sets together and make color charts, to see what these sets are like. The outcome is a playful collection of colors that may help you decide if either of these sets would be interesting for you.
My first impressions of these special edition sets are based on making the colour charts alone and my own preferences and experience with watercolour.

Mandy! It’s good to see a video from you and this one is well timed. I just saw the new palette on Instagram and wondered how it handled. I admit- I’m not a fan of the granulating red in that set. I picked up the 1st one as a Christmas present to myself and I do enjoy it. Hope you’re doing well.

Awesome! I'm also not a big Volcano Red fan...it's a very weak tinting color. But that being said...it does help make some nice textures if you want some. I'll do a larger update soon!
Thanks for sharing your Horadam sets! I love how you used the paints that you already have and only bought the paints that were missing.

You're welcome! I figured these sets would be so interesting to try and since I had most of the paints already it wasn't much trouble completing the compositions.

The ultimate set makes some lovely deep jewel tones, and just a more interesting range. I can’t find the sets on any UK site, seems strange, though I have enough paint, I’m curious what I have that’s similar. The granulation is fascinating. I do like the blues and greens of the exceptional set, though, and the brightness of the colours.

Oh, I totally get it about having "enough paint", but when you see a compostion like this, you just have to try, don't you? I couldn't find these sets available in the Netherlands either, but I did manage to find the color numbers and found out I had most of them already and completed with just 5 more half pans. You could compare pigment numbers and see if you can recreate this set with what you already have.
