Schema Mode Therapy: The Detached Protector
The "Detached Protector" is a flight schema mode that is activated in stressful situations in some people. When this mode is activated we may disengage from what is happening and this may even result in dissociation.

Brilliant.. watched a few times. Very helpful. Thanks.
Does anyone feel a shiver go through them during this. Almost like a cold shiver starting close to your body then down your limbs?
I’ve just been stuck in it for four years. Never stops, and if I start to on occasion feel it vanishes in seconds. Really sick of it. I did use avoidant protector before though, like always, and I was constantly being triggered (abandonment fears, anger, shame/humiliation, loss/grief). I’m going to check your trauma series!
Thanks Jess. A clear and interesting presentation.
Great Videos--thanks for all of your hard work on these.
An incredibly useful, well-presented video. Thank you so much!
great video, very well explained, thanks from greece!
Thank you. This is me, so I've been looking forward to this video from you. It was very helpful.
interesting observation. Overarchingly, dissociation is not a choice. But now that I know I do it, I recognize that "it" is quite nice feeling, a little compelling/interesting. So I can shift my consiousness in that direction. But specific help HOW| to bring myself out would be great
Great video thanks!! It’s really valuable, especially in combination with your other videos, especially for people like me who are reading as much as possible on the subject. Thanks!
this is excellent
Awesome video THANKS! I knew DID didn't fit but this is more helpful

Thank you very much..great video. Could you please do a video on insula
You mentioned a video in your Trauma series you were going to make. It sounded like you were saying 'Insular.' I can't find that video though.

Sorry to hear. It might be worth exploring schema therapy?
Thank you so much for this. Your content has brought light to a problem I've just found out I have. Like you said, I was detaching and not even noticing it. I'll take this to my schema therapist so we can work on it
Great video but how to turn this mode off? Once it activates I get stuck in it for days and weeks .
'Emotional Inhibition Schema'.... Ma'am, could you please highlight upon framing of Socratic questions for guided discovery of this specific schema mode in patients??
there is a new feature on youtube that adds a banner on videos from licensed medical professionals to add credibility to the source. I seems to work retroactively as well. Might be worth looking into for your channel.
It would be nice to be able to slow this down.
I feel like just listening to this video is golf. To change my life now I’m diagnosed with ptsd adhd & borderline but nothing I’ve learnt read audiobooked has reached out to me like this in a way that you literally are saying all my symptoms that have been said to be all these other things x it’s a light bulb money for me a lot has just fixed into place like a jigsaw you have just tel me me x thank you I’m so careful if there’s any way I can get more on all this please reply can’t thank yous enough ♥️
what is the difference between detached protector and detached self soother? they kinda sound the same
this reminds me of the description of derealization/depersonalization
What if this is just a portion of my distinctions mind and thoughts? I can’t afford a therapist.
~~~ I have seen a lot of street pups struggling with this mode and the "men" I call it the Santa Clause Effect~~~
How do I fix it?
Would you say that there is a correlation between the frequencies of Detached and Avoidant Protectors? That a person exhibiting one schema is more likely to be using the other one? Or perhaps that Detached Protector is a precursor to Avoidant, like a first line of defense? i.e. "I relied in Detached Protector for a year, it didn't solve my problems, but I've recognized my need for protection, so I'm going to turn the dial up to Avoidant Protector"
Yep, lots of people will use both. Sometimes you’ll be forced to attend something, so if you can’t physically avoid, then you’ll psychologically detach.
I relied on avoidant protector for a while and then strangely moved on to detached protector. This mode is so great cause I don't feel at all and can work pretty well
I completely resonate with this! How do I find out more?
