Might be worth a brief mention that the PT stands for Pete Townshend who played a Schecter tele style in the early 80s.

YES! FYII just heard the backstory about that in a Schector Bass video. Schecter was a parts & performance shop, not makers per se. They had a reputation for "souped-up" and "hot rodding" instruments with their superior parts etc. So...Pete Townsend had built a schecter Tele from parts and toured with it. After that, schecter started making guitars and made the PT. Townsend never was sponsored by Schector, hence the PT, not Pete Townsend models. That said, it's quite the testament that Townsend wasn't paid to play em, but did when any guitar maker would have paid big $ to get his name. 👍

Great review, Darrell! (I enjoy all of your reviews). Been a drummer for 55 years and due to spinal complications, I'm finally moving over to guitar. I've had some beautiful acoustics and electrics but had to sell them when the market tanked in '09. I've been looking for one guitar that would do most anything, an all-around work-horse for a good price, mostly to play at home and with a few friends down the road. This guitar checks all of the boxes while looking great, sounding great, and it looks very comfortable to play. Plus, if I ever dropped it or dinged it I wouldn't be freaking out like with some $2,000.00+ guitar. I really like it and thanks for the thorough and excellent review! Michael ~ Santa Barbara, Ca.

Another really informative review. Thanks, Darrell. I'm starting to get your enthusiasm about Schecter guitars. Always stayed away from them because I'm a more 'classic' style player. But this guitar really has me intrigued. P90 and tele pickups.... great combination. I wish companies like this would go the extra step of volume and tone controls for each pick up so blending pickups was more modifyable for the player. I've had stacked pots installed on one of my strats and it's amazing what kind of tones are available when the player can blend sounds. Thanks for another great review and 'expanding my vision'.

I love Schecter, their metal arsenal is particularly impressive, and they still manage to pull off classics quite well as proved by your video. Speaking of which, I wanted to thank you personally for your video where you picked up a beat up Les Paul and upgraded it with black hardware and made it into an instrument anyone would be proud to have. It inspired me to pick up a road worn Schecter Demon 7 FR with a missing trem arm for 120 CAD$ at a local pawn shop. It sounded like garbage but as I suspected, the battery was the culprit. I replaced it, tightened the hardware, ordered the trem bar online and gave it a bit of TLC. I now have a fantastic instrument that cost me less than 150$ and I would have likely overlooked it were it not for your videos. Thanks again, and keep it up!

I have an '02 Tradition CAB10 Tele that i already previously installed a 4-way switch and the factory-installed G&B Alnico 5 bridge pickup has plenty of bite, twang and snap @8.5K ohms; the P90 is fatter than Strat pickup which is fatter than a Tele neck pickup and that's how far I want it to be without resulting to a humbucking pickup and this Schecter has reinforced the P90 process to my guitar... great video by the way!

I have to say, I really like these. I was never really a schecter fan. there is nothing wrong with them, I've always just seen them as metal guitars and not my style. I've always been a Strat player. I've worked on countless Teles, but only actually got one for myself a couple years ago. I decided I wanted to do a "sessions"- type guitar, I haven't actually done any sessions for a decade but I wanted something I could grab to cover anything I might end up playing, and Teles are IMO designed for that. I wanted to do an H-S layout with vintage output pickups and install a preamp in it for higher output and to change up the EQ. I wasn't going to buy a Fender to do it because I wasn't planning on paying for a US model, but I really dislike the heavy polyester finish on the MIMs so I looked at other brands. First I looked at G&L but the bodies were either poplar or basswood or something like that so that was out. The ESPs also had some materials I didn't like and while even the 12" radius on the Schecter was a bit flatter that I wanted, especially with the huge frets, the ESP was close to 14" and I didn't like the chambered routing up at the neck pocket area. With the Ash body, vintage still bridge and more traditional looks I decided on this, the black one. I really thought it looked killer and actually wanted something with a more Strat type belly contour. The routing for the pickups allowed me to put in the preamp without all the routing I thought I was going to have to do, plus while this is a bit neck heavy, with the preamp and battery it balances really well. I went with a Lollar Filtertron type Humbucker for the neck *(side note: due to the fact that those type pickups are MUCH lower output than a typical Humbucker, even compared to a PAF, and it's naturally brighter voice, I personally find them to be the best Humbucker to use in the neck with a singlecoil in the bridge) and Tele Special in the bridge (a slightly lower output Texas Special). I had to do a some cutting and filing to get everything to for properly, but at the end of the day, this thing was perfect for what I wanted. I say that for the price relative to design and quality, I find these to be a much better choice than any of the Fenders in the same class.

Another homerun by Darrell! This is how a guitar should be, especially with series to parallel option, through string body and forearm and belly cuts! Take notice Fender!

I've got the PT apocalypse and it's amazing. Ebony fret board, stainless frets, locking tuners and the apocalypse pickups are easily one of the best pickups I've ever heard and they have a split coil setup. I wish you were reviewing it.

Hey! Hows it been? How does it play? Any chance you've played a fender tele? I'm kinda torn between a fender player tele and the pt special. How does the p90 compare to a traditional tele neck?

I've been wanting a tele for some time, but the square heel joint and a couple of other minor things was turning me off. This seems to be a very good alternative, nice and versatile sounds, excellent quality for the price and what a beauty with that finish! Thanks Darrell!

I adapted my self made Tele Deluxe into something similar to this Schecter. I bought a new scratchplate routed to take a Tele bridge single coil and a humbucker in the neck. For the neck pickup I've installed a humbucker sized P90 and it's a great combination that sounds very nice. I've always had wide range humbuckers on my Deluxe since I made it, but I've found myself wanting a traditional Tele sound but because I already own 9 guitars I didn't want to, nor could I afford to, buy another guitar. Then one day I had a brainwave that I could adapt my Deluxe just by buying a new scratchplate and changing the pickup routing on it, and luckily I found a seller on ebay who did just that 😎 So now I have my original scratchplate with the wide range humbuckers on it, and also the one with my new single coil configuration and I can just swap the scratchplates over when I feel like a change. What I might do next is buy another scratchplate (or maybe 2) and get them routed to take filtertron type pickups or maybe regular humbuckers to give me even more options for my Deluxe. I'm pretty sure that when I measured the pickup cavities there wasn't enough room for regular P90s otherwise I'd be getting a scratchplate made for those as well 😆 I still can't get over what a good idea I had, and if anyone reading this owns a Tele Deluxe, you can now effectively turn it into multiple different guitars by buying new scratchplates with different routing for different pickup configurations. Tele Deluxes must be the most versatile guitars you can buy. 👍

Damn, I really really love Schecter as a brand. It's prolly my favorite guitar brand, barring one or two instruments from other brands. I'll always yearn to be good enough to earn a sponsorship from them, perhaps in another life. Really nice review Darrell, this is such a sweet sounding guitar. Love that p90 in the neck, love the design, the contours, the shape of the headstock (favorite headstock shape), love the build quality as you showcased and it was instant crush on the sound. I'm definitely gonna buy this someday, and maybe I'll change that bridge with the one without the raised edges along the top and bottom. Edit: Whenever I look at this guitar, I picturize it being played by Nick Johnston. He should try this one sometime.

Another great video, Darrell. That's one killer tele. Love the P90 and the series options, super versatile. But more importantly, my man, I really like the format of you switching back and forth between playing and commentating in real time. Your production value is always really great, so the normal way of cutting away for the sound demo is just fine, but it's a nice little surprise to get your impressions more in real-time. Keep playing around with the format, it keeps things exciting! Happy Halloween!
