Daniels was impressed by Jimmy’s sobriety. It was like he was dealing with a different person. Daniels personal code of honor caused him to suppress trying to put a lot of pressure on McNulty to do another wire. He was always looking out for what was best for ‘his men’.

Their relationship and how they both came to respect each other is awesome.

prolifik5 Hey, he kept the schools running. I think it was a good way by the writers to show that many cities can no longer properly fund education and law enforcement/public services at the same time.

I like how better the sound equipment got in short period of time.

Another small thing, in one of the first episodes of season 1, a cop says: "type quieter". In season 5, a news reporter says the same line.

If the series ended with season 4 which it almost did, it would have been a happy-ish ending for nearly all the characters. 😆

That's what i love about the wire fans everyone thinks he/she's a savant on picking up Easter eggs of the show but there is a lot you missed than you pick up on the nuances .

I loved their relationship. RIP lance Reddick. Unsung hero of The Wire and John Wicks greatest Ally.

one thing I noticed... season 4 when mcnulty had a foot patrol was the only time in the series where he was constantly smiling

That second scene could make a grown man cry. Who'd have thought 10 episodes later Daniels would want McNulty's head on a stake

The Wire never stops surprising me, it just keeps. On. Giving. Nice find.

ZaneCRUZE Indeed. This show is one of a kind though.

Beautiful scene. They had a tough relationship, but had an underlying trust and respect for each other. They always on the whole knew where each other stood, even when McNolty was backdooring Daniels with the judge. Except for the last season McNolty was basically straightforward with Daniels. Even when Daniels cought McNolty in a lie in the 5th season with the fake homeless killings, it was still typical ‘McNolty’ in his mind.

This just shows a little of some of the best character development ive ever seen in live television. I really do miss this show

Outside of the Sopranos what has Gandolfini done that’s exceptional? Wood Harris, Idris Elba, Dominic West?!? Gandolfini blows these guys out of the water? Gandolfini stands out on the Sopranos because outside of Edie Falco he was surrounded by shit actors.

She ruined both the lives and careers of two of the finest, most dedicated detectives in the BPD, who actually GAVE a shit about innocent people dying, who took a REAL, pure-evil serial killer off the streets(Marlo) as well as all his murderous henchmen. All so she could feel self-righteous and holy that she exposed their lie. If you actually think she did the right thing, there's something wrong with your moral compass.

@Damon Gargoyle I never said Jimmy was an angel, but he was a way, way WAY better and more conscientious person than garbage like Burrell, Clay Davis, Maury Levy, Valchek, Rawls, Royce, Carcetti, Andy Krawczyk, Nereese Campbell, Odell Watkins, Marla Daniels, even Landsman and Herc. The vast majority of the people I just mentioned were *PURE UNADULTERATED SCUM,* and deserved Omar's shotgun blast more than anyone. And horrifically, they are the big bosses in charge, running shit!! And in case your little mind already forgot, she ruined Lester's career too. Best detective in B'more. Smfh.

Great writing , one of the best shows ever

1:58 The "I'll see you in the parking deck later" look

McNulty could be an ‘....’ but when it came to police work, other then the last season, he had those instincts and was usually right. Natural police. He knew exactly what needed to be done and he didn’t care what you thought. Though McNulty initially grated on Daniels, Daniels knew deep down that career-wise, McNulty was one of the best thing that ever happened to him, and he sort of missed the excitement of doing ‘real police work’ with Jimmy. Thus the underlying warm interaction at the end and trying to get him on board for another Wire, being well aware of all of McNulty’s liabilities. He also wouldn’t have to supervise him this time around, and he knew if Jimmy was on that Wire, he was going to deliver the goods.

That's because it went from police work to vengeance on McNulty's part after what happened to Bodie.

There are plenty more. I caught on to the wire late and watched the entire series in one month. I noticed plenty of scenes like that. I think it's a way of letting the viewers know that everything is tied together.

Like it's not really the people that make the characters, but the situations that make them. As in the final episode where you see Sydnor become McNulty, Kima become Freemon, Michael become Omar, that one reporter become Gus, Valchek becomes Burrell (notice in the show how people refer to both of them as low IQ, but also politically astute and not caring about anything other than their personal career), etc. It's just a cycle thar continues and when someone leaves, a new person takes their place.

It takes another level of intelligence to make such a masterpiece of a show like this and BREAKING BAD.

One quick find I noticed that tripped me out was when bubbles first started his cart business, his dope friend and the other guy came to talk to him, white dopehead (I forgot his name) snatched some fruit from the cart really quick, just let's you know a thief is a thief no matter if he's your "friend "

The Wire was so good at demanding our attention like this - calling back to small moments literally years prior to make the story bigger and more detailed than it otherwise would've been. It's one of the things that made it such an amazing series: all the pieces mattered.

This makes me wonder how many of these easter eggs are scattered throughout the show. Time for a rewatch
