Truth! Love this movie. People mention the fact that Costner didn't have an accent while everyone else did, but that didn't bother me at all when I first watched this. Still doesn't in fact. I ragther him use his normal voice than fake an accent that he had no chance of getting right or pleasing anyone with it. Probably would have gotten even more ridicule than him using his normal voice in Medieval England. Such a great movie though. It never gets old to me.

@@Tony_Cardoza People who complain about the accent are strangely silent when you mention that everyone in this movie should have a Middle English accent, which sounds nothing like any British actor in the movie. It would be like a western movie that takes places in 1800's California having someone speak like a surfer dude.

Having this Robin Hood movie as a kid was a dream. Moments like this had you buzzing to go to war with bow and arrows. Kids just dont get these sort of moments in film anymore. I didn't even think about Kevin Costner's accent, its about the characters and the quality script and film techniques which creates drama and captures your attention. If you saw this movie and a marvel movie both for the first time back to back it would not even be a contest. These 90's movies have so much more to them.

Very well said. Robin Hood Prince of Thieves was what movies are supposed to be: entertaining, evocative, and inspiring. It had heart, swagger, and stirred the soul. Not to mention one of the greatest soundtracks you will find. It's disappointing so many are in the comments on these clips whinging about accents. I'll take this every time over what is produced now: mostly soulless drivel that is made by committees instead of a filmmaker's vision. When's the last time something came out that truly made you feel a part of a grand & noble adventure?

I love these old glory day rants with their false premises. There have been movies in every decade that go above and beyond, that are amazing to experience. Why shit on older or newer films just because you love your glory day memories? Such a sad way to live. Don't be so jaded by social media, form your own opinions and give films a chance. There are quite a few since this one came out that are incredibly good. Just have to shelve the bias and pessimism. Robin Hood isn't a "great" film. It's entertaining, it's fun, but it's so full of tropes and nonsense as well--and that's perfectly fine. Princess Bride was the same, a lot of gimmick and nonsense but it was immensely entertaining and satisfying. Or, since you crapped on Marvel movies, I'd wager there are a few in the series that are quite excellent. The original Iron Man. Captain America: Civil War. The first Dr. Strange. The End Game movies. All very good and entertaining. That's just one series, there are hundreds of movies since Robin Hood PoT came out that are a pretty good watch...if you turn off your nostalgia mentality for a moment and give them a chance to come through. Those glory days...what a sad way to live if everything you experience in life falls short of those few years where you think the world was great and perfect. News flash--it wasn't. It never was and probably never will be, not as long as humans have anything to say about it. But at least those same destructive beings are capable of producing wonderful art and experiences--yesterday, today and tomorrow too. Embrace them all. /sermon over, with a note: I also grew up in the 80s so don't think about pulling any of that grandpa knows better horseshit.

Just because they say so years later on a commentary track doesn't make it so, take everything you hear with a grain of salt, especially if it makes the one talking seem better in retrospect. Costner probably told them where they could shove their commentary track unless he could say that after being tired of people pissing on him for being an obvious yank in a film set in England with Englishmen (or rather Anglo-Norman's culturally to be exact).

I doubt Will really wanted to kill Robin. His hand was too high to hit Robin's back or even shoulder with a knife. I think he wanted to scare him because Robin humiliated him for calling him a coward. Will is no coward and it's only naturaly he didn't want to die and wanted protect his "family" too. Yes, it wasn't nice what he did, but Robin wasn't better either. I think even Robin was shocked, when he shot Will's hand through. I think he didn't really want to hurt the boy.

I loved the story, the action, the music, the actors. Back in the day, I watched all movies in german, which is absolute standard over here in Germany. Now I choose to watch all english and american movies and shows in OV, because I think it is a much deeper experience. BUT I have to say this though: Robin Hoods german voice-over was far better than Costners original astonishingly high pitched voice and the strange accent. As weird as this sounds. This scene and his speech in german is much better...

How can feminists call themselves on sth side of women if they allow the government to take parental rights away? This is all going to end badly. We had a great country and soon we will have an Islamic republic? Feminists hate Christianity, which says women and men are equal... but they love Islam which says it's not a sin to grape a sex slave. This is feminism. We now have women with penises because of feminism. Women are literally getting graped in women's shelters and prisons by 'women with penises' because of feminists. A misunderstood masterpiece. Like Jesus Christ, this movie miraculously embodies two different natures in the same being: wholly camp comedy, yet wholly heroic adventure film of the first order, essentially and inseparably both in every moment. The prophet of this mystical paradox is Kevin Costner, whose complete unawareness of how ludicrously unconvincing he is as Robin Hood creates a captivating magic that shows why he's an A-lister and Tommy Wiseau is still crashing midnight screenings. KC is the Chosen One of a towering dad joke. This movie! The sweeping landscapes and frenetic closeups, the impeccable pacing, the chilling terror of Michael Wincott's Guy of Gisbourne, the resilience of the sets and scenery to Alan Rickman's teethmarks, the delightful supporting cast (Soo Drouet's Fanny deserved a BAFTA) and the amazing crowd of locals having the time of their lives, of course Brian Blessed's Mouth. Personally, I look out for that haunting moment in every Morgan Freeman scene when his eyes go dead and his soul flees his body to find a quiet place to contemplate pulling out his agent's fingernails. A true classic-of its time, but for all times. #brianblessed

I think you nailed it with the first review. This movie should be campy shit and yet it embodies the best of the traditional Hollywood approach. Hope, fear, redemptive love -- it's all there with brilliant cinematography, terrific tone, and rousing action scenes that just seem realistic enough to get the heart pounding. The soundtrack underpins these elements with emotional clarity. And, as you mention, the supporting parts are stronger than the leads, a sensibility that old school Hollywood always seemed to understand was the secret to the sauce. Yes, this movie is an adolescent fantasy but let me revel in it and I'll be happy forever. Your de-constructed post-modern critique seems like it's punishing me for even bothering to exist. No wonder more and more people are miserable.

This speech was so bad I love it. His response to “we ain’t got nothing to eat” was “the forest will provide … we have food”. And then, “what about our kin? The Sheriff has taken from them too” “By god we take it back.” Well you convinced me. TERRIBLE! But it’s a movie I saw when I was 10 so I can overlook all the atrocities because the story, some acting, and score was great.

This would have been a perfect Robin Hood movie if not for Costner's very American accent. Having said that, I still think this was far better than the one starring Russell Crowe.

A different era for film scores, much more passionate classical composers. Hollywood composers now generally seem really afraid of trying to be boldly thematic with grand movements and suites. They also don't know their way around an orchestra.

I’m pretty certain Will had some kind of leperosy due to the way he reacted when he was shot. I also read some research claiming an original member of robin hoods cliche, most possibly ‘Will’ had leperosy.

why people criticize this movie for Costner's american accent is beyond me, when you have the king speaking with a scottish accent at the same time.
