I used to wade fish a lot in the Gulf of Mexico , until I stepped on a stingray and got stung. It hurt a lot. That got me to thinking about how common bull sharks are around there and how dark the water in Louisiana and Mississippi is. I just cast a little further now.

My dad had me seining with him in a back bay in Texas with him when I was about 11 or so. I had **just** seen that brand-new damned 'Jaws' movie and was telling my dad all about it. I was doing a great job creeping us both out about how the shark would always pop up out of nowhere, when all of a sudden, a gods-damned mullet jumped out of the water right over the net hitting my dad in the chest, ricocheted off him and banged me in the arm! My dad went "Waugh!!", I went "Waugh!!", the fish went "Sploosh!" back into the water, and my dad and I laughed our asses off. Funnily enough, we decided to call it a day and headed back for the sand after that. I don't mind confessing that I had my head on a swivel until the water was back down to my ankles, though... o.O
