In the name of Christianity
I can't help but shed tears watching this awesome clip, however this is only the tip of the iceberg. The tales my grandma (May God grant her Eternal Heavenly Peace 🕊️) used to narrate from time to time were just so unimaginable to have done or really occured. So many Mau Mau Freedom fighters and their descendants have nothing, absolutely nothing to show for their sacrifice, the ultimate sacrifice they made. May God Bless them yet I Pray. Thayū. Kudos for you've set a course & a precedence for light will be shed and the Truth will ultimately be unearthed. Kūroagīra 🤲
I wish this message would be painted in the hearts of every kenyan. I wish that for the sake of those who faught for our freedom to be compensated. I wish that our current leaders instead of stealing Trillions of cash should use the funds to unite all Kenyan irrespective of our dimension. I wish that peace should be a common language to all of us. Our hearts still bleed and we praying God to give us a forgiving heart. Long live to all those who channeled their effort for the Triumph of Kenya.
My Dad died in this war. My Mom, detained but when finally Indipendence came, we, the Children were forgotten.

@NTVKenya, thank you for documenting this piece of history forgotten/ignored in time.
Problem is with our education system. We are taught European history and we have such rich history at our door step. If kids would know what it took to be a independent, they would respect and strive to do more for the country than wait on country to give to them.

Precisely on point 100%. Sad part is that the ruling elite has continued to perpetuate this tragedy in our education system.
It should be memorialized as a museum. It’s a shame that 6 decades later, no one talks about this or ever taught in school. This should be a nation museum!!

It has never been in the interest of home guards who own Kenya and their colonial masters to preserve our history! To the contrary they've worked hard over the decades to destroy it! We can't let them win again, we must write and preserve this story.
THE DAY KENYA WILL BE SET FREE...THE WORLD WILL KNOW WE ARE THE SUPERPOWER...

That was the process of converting our people to Christianity
Fantastic job my father was born and bred in lari There has been a deliberate effort to either omit history totally or to distort the facts about the struggle
I was about two years, when I watch this clip, I shed tears, don't know how I survived.
Thank you Thank you. I wish there was a foundation through which I could donate towards the preservation of these treasures. My only way of saying thank you to the freedom we enjoy today. Thank you. I am a tribeless proud Kenyan.
Thankyou Ntv for this Story!!!! We have a history,i wish our youths can learn from this!!!!
To think our fore fathers fought for this way to us to live the way we are living right now. My heart aches

we should be mourning each day knowing the struggle has never ended. its a sad tale.
Thankyou for this marvellous effort to preserve the integrity of the Mau Mau. My grandfather remains forever honoured! Lari my home, my identity, my love and pride for the painful sacrifices by my/our forefathers. Kenya is blessed with a long history of brave, selfless and relentless men and women who must never be forgotten!!! Mahoya matheru ma gikuyu thai thathaiya Ngai thai 🙏 with love Kinyenje wa Ng'ang'a. (UK).
Such an insightful documentary. What the British did was disgusting and can never be forgotten.
If history is not told we are doomed to repeat it....bcoz there is nothing in the past to restrain us....write it in books tell it to the children in schools.....Let's honour the dead who fought for our country....
😭our freedom is blood bought... and we dare take it for granted...thank you for recording our history. May we never forget!
How I wish our journalists will heed to what this elders are advising. Record our history while we still can, we have a lot to lose.
Kenyan curriculum will never teach you this because there is a lot that is hidden from us. I feel there is a need to have a museum documenting all this history, particularly the MAUMAU freedom fighters in order to pass it to future generations.
As much as this is so insightful, I feel like there should be more and more plus this must be included in our history books. Why should I remember more about independence and not how we got there. Let we Kenyans drive our own narrative, not the one driven by the white man!
Woi i wish every kikuyu should watch this and never let leaders come between us..this video has made me to shed tears
This is a good effort to preserve the history, Thank you Martial Soldiers of MauMau for Liberation our Country and those who died...Rest in Peace.
kikuyus are truly resilient.
Growing up my grandmother would narrate these stories and why there was no grandfather. Those stories lives in my head.
THANK YOU SO MUCH NTV. WE REALLY NEED TO BE TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO SHOW TO THE CURRENT COMMUNITY WHAT CAN HAPPEN AS A RESULT OF WAR. WE ALSO THANKFUL TO KNOW THAT MOST PEOPLE WHO SAVAGELY SUFFERED THE WAR WERE NOT REMEMBERED TO DATE, EVEN BY THE CURRENT GOVT. MAY GOD KEEP PEACE IN KENYA, GOD BLESS KENYA, GOD BLESS AFRICA.
Powerful peace of history! My grandfather was part of those that were in Burma... the Kamaru songs were and are very integral when we grew up
Wow,quite an eye opener. Now I understand the Mau Mau anger against the Kenyattas
This makes me so angry. My grandfather was a homeguard. He died alone. No one wanted anything to do with him. He was a traitor. I remember reading from Owaaah seven years ago of how Kapenguria Six tried to stab Kenyatta cause he was considered a traitor. Also there is this sect called Kamau Maithori ( Kamau who causes tears) formed after the traitor Jomo ascended to power. I wanna know more about that

So sad..
How I wish that all Kenyans would embrace peace and unity irrespective of political affiliations and tribe. Many people died and perhaps it's the only Way we can thank them for the selfless sacrifice they made to fight for freedom. Thanks for the narrative, real CBC wacha hii ya Mangoha.
Much respect to our surviving mau mau Kenyans.
im a proudly grandson of mau mau.raise in kikuyu tradation fearing thahu, migiro na kirumi. salute to all mau mau gallants dead n alive
Kikuyus went through a lot. This documentary is great, we must pass this history to our children and their children.
proud to be son of a mau mau hero
This is so sad but necessary to watch. I am from Lari and didn’t know this.
They should build monuments in this areas not in Uhuru park only
We were residing in majengo Nairobi when all kikuyu men were rounded up and sent to detentioncamps.I was about 3 years old. We were sent by the colonial gava to our rural areas of Mukurweini Nyeri where we were at the mercy of the community. I saw my late father when he was released from detention in 1956. Very painful memories.
The very many times i use the A104 to and fro NRB/NAK, i always pass by LARI and my goes back, what was it like, what transpired there, the survivor stories, the fighters stories, i have watched and read tons of the same, but this is what was missing, real peoples stories of those who were there...i was born 40 years after it happened, but yet i feel it very close to my heart
My mother were left with no one after arresting his father and her mother who was never seen to this day.
that MAU MAU resistance, and hatred towards the collaborators perhaps explains the stereotypes we have on folks from Kiambu and Nyeri, the trauma must have significantly changed the socioeconomics of the group. The MAU MAU vet and the lady gave an almost accurate description and analysis
Very well done and informative. History the reason we are here today so that it may never be forgotten.
Thanks for this piece... so much to think about
I remember me and my father my mother and my two brothers were in (kiũgũ )detention in north Kinangop waiting to be allocated somewhere to stay, I remember it was an open space surounded by bulbed wire and we were sleeping there in the open field.
👏👏👏👏👏👏 Awesome stuff... Kazi safi
How u fortunate our education systems does not consider this as important, right now Kenyans should know that what they are enjoying dint come easy as we wait for the supreme court to give a verdict of the 2022 elections we should respect anyone and everyone who has suffers for this country
Thank you NTV for this presentation I am proud am daughter of a Maũ Maũ fighter
Loved watching this and all the sacrifices of those who came before us.
That was then and nothing has changed, the poor sons of maumau fighters are labeled mungiki
I cannot Blame the school for failing to teach this history because I know it is controlled curriculum. Now, After watching I have realized that after the coloniser was unable to live in peace any longer because of Mau Mau, they of course used Homeguards which also failed. They then saw that Gikuyu is becoming unstoppable and established atonements places where chaplains would change the Mau Mau and resisters of colonialism from Mau Mau Paganism as they call it to Christianity. So, I you can listen and listen well that exactly what the reporter of the old video just said. I like the song the freedom fighters were singing "We are black, not white, we do not belong to their faith. Our God is Superior". To mean that Gikuyu did not need the new religion, This alone means a lot. Even though the freedom fighters were never compensated as they should have been and instead compensated well to the homeguards and chiefs, their end result was achieved freedom was given. Look at it in this way forks, if the men and women who disagreed with colonialism were already under white mans religion probably they would have been colonised very well with little or no resistance, Identity of Gikuyu had a huge contribution to resistance. Interesting History Indeed.
I somewhat sympathize with them but looking at the bigger picture, the Mau Mau stood no chance .They were up against the biggest empire in the world and troops who had just come from fighting Hitler and won .Choose your battles wisely . Again on the collaborators taking over the government , I support and understand again looking at the bigger picture .These were the most learned and experienced people well positioned to run a sophisticated bureaucracy .The Mau Mau illiterates taking over would have turned the country into a communist hellhole .Running a country is not the same as managing a kiosk I'm saying this as a Kikuyu whose grandfather was in the forest .

This should be part of our history in all schools, we should NOT all such a history to be forgotten. Our generations should know how British government killed our people trying to steal our land.
I am In the USA and I sing Mau Mau songs to motivate myself... the struggle is still on hata sasa. I have ultimate respect for Maumaus...
Has anyone shared this documentary with national museums?
The history we teach is thin and whitewashed, moreover no Kenyan wants their kids to study History, and then we turn around and wonder how come no one is writing about this, cc Anderson: "Histories of the Hanged", JM Kariuki & Bildad Kaggia bios
Collaborators and tribes which were loyal to British are the ones ruling and enjoying fruit
I now understand the rebellion against Uhuru Kenyatta in the mountain.
My grandfather was a maumau, he died in 2019, may his soul Rest In Peace, after independence he was appointed to be a police in kisumu, he retired and lived a very good life. Maumau had people from GEM, but Kikuyus bore the blunt. The British rarely invaded some parts of mt Kenya east.
This painful to watch 😢😢😢I couldn't finish it
We lost our grandmother after those working with colony came to my grandfather home with white solider with guns
the devolution governors should take the initiative to have these sages interviewed and history books be written for people to read and in schools teach these history like in the 60s and 70s history of independence and before ,the partitions and Berlin and lacanster conferences history was taught. why not start teaching this histories for young ones to get knowledge it will help them grasp importance of peace and unity among tribes.
We the old school generation we were taught abt Mau Mau ,this technology generation should be taught too.
“History is not the best teacher, history is the best punisher because it punishes hard those who forget about it.” The freedom we enjoy today was paid for with blood. Never forget that.
our freedom fighters fought a good fight
The irony and sacarsism of transforming an execution spot into a "healing" hospital is on another level..

Thank our brothers and sisters that put in a effort to fight or support
God Bless OUR HEROES-MAU MAU💪
Good job. Congrats
A good story by Ngina Kirori on Lari Massacre. But did you notice that some parts of the STORY have been MUTED whenever her narration is touching on the mzungu? Watch it again with the CAPTIONS on and you will notice that words still come up even when you think it is a silent part of the video.

Classical example of colonials pitting natives against each other exactly what they did in Rwanda Congo,we are lucky God helped us not to go the worst way.

We're busy watching Vikings and Last kingdom learning about other nations while we could be making kenyan series recreating this stories to teach the future generations how our forefathers fathers fought for this lands. Tbh if we don't document this history well enough so many untold stories unseen pov's will die with our grandparents and great-grandparents.

Sad. Even the white settlers in Kenya were done an injustice settled here after fighting the war.

Well Done
Why is this not taught at our schools,so disappointed that so much of our history will be forgotten
The MAU MAU vet IMO actually indicts Kenya's first administration. Specifically Kenyatta, maybe he never believed in the MAU MAU cause
I used to wonder why there so much poverty in those areas. Now I know
My grandfather died in this massacre 😢
