Learn how to detect and characterise a DVT with ultrasound.
In this video the presence of venous scarring thrombus is noted within the lumen of the common femoral vein. The B-mode longitudinal view demonstrates the presence of echogenic material within the centre of the lumen of the vein. When applying colour flow Doppler flow division can be noted, even though colour flow partially covers the thrombus. Indeed, the ultrasound diagnosis of a venous thrombosis should be made using B mode and the ultrasound compression manoeuvre.
