Viewer Question:
Anthony Buchanan - So according to the Hollywood Reporter, the Scarlet Johansson - Disney Lawsuit has ended as both sides have worked a deal out. While no details are announced, it was interesting to hear that ScarJo and Disney, after dragging ScarJo through the mud, are willing to work together still on future projects, Disney notably mentioning the Tower of Terror project. Are you surprised both sides are working together still? Do you think Disney and ScarJo would be willing to do a Black Widow 2 in the future, along with any future MCU projects that may come down the pipeline for her. Thanks for taking my question! Stay filthy!

I can't believe how people get mad at actors' paydays (or athletes for that matter). If you're mad at someone who's working job-to-job for a living, exploiting their own talent as best they can, while they can... If that makes you mad, I think you've been distracted from the people you should really be mad at. Great example: Disney telling you her fee for Black Widow to try to get you on their side - meanwhile paying her the $20 million she asked for originally would have been a literal drop in the bucket to them, so small it's almost a rounding error on their balance sheet.

I agree! All these actors are really overpaid. If it were not for all the scriptwriters, productions crew, and loyal fans, ScarJo would be just an obscure actor getting scale rates which are far more $$$$$ than working in a factory, warehouse, or driving a heavy vehicle in traffic all day long.

Under his watch the "well was poisoned" with every future contract Disney is involved with being subjected to intense scrutiny by potential talent. Disney cannot survive without masses of creatives (in front or behind the camera/keyboard) in their employ. She would have never gotten 50m at trial. The movie made 125m on stream and 378m at WW box office. It cost 200m to make and it was the 2nd lowest viewed marvel film ever. The movie just didn't do well. When it takes 5 weeks just to recover production costs, that's not a successful movie. People are assuming she got 50m but a company the size of Disney is not going to give out an 50m for 125m on stream when they have 20m for the box office. The biggest bulk of the film still came from the worldwide box office.

If you don't think that's not worth $50M then idk what to tell you. Not only did Disney reneged on their contract with SJ they humiliated her, she would've won the lawsuit and they would have to pay at least double than what they settled for so yeah Disney might not have been happy with the performance of Black Widow but it would have been much worse had they gone to trail and everything became public.

@@rjs1674 the whole point of reaching a settlement is to pay as little as possible despite getting to this step. It would have been cheaper for them to just just stayed with the contract or renegotiate so that SJ felt it was just. Instead they reneged and that price tag went up. We probably won't know how much the settlement is but it's at least double the $20M she originally wanted, and you can double that had they gone to trial.

I don't think she is getting an extra 40 million from Disney, the Deadline article says the deal will run to more than $40 million but I think that is going to be her total compensation. The writer of the article probably got their info from Scarlett's publicist or agent and they want you to assume its an extra $40 million in compensation but it is just probably the $20 mil she already got plus another $20-25 mil in extra compensation which brings her deal to more than $40 million dollars in which case I would say fair compensation for her and a win for both sides.
