This is haunting, beautiful. I completely understand the sheet music bit, you incorporate a part of you in the song when you play by ear. Which sometimes doesn't happen when there's a guide in front of you.

Just learned a beginners' version on the piano and been searching KZread for other versions. How come only women with almost preternaturally girlish, "pure" voices seem to perform this song? (OK, and S&G.) No oomph to those vocals. This is so much better!

This is a very kind offer Avery. I can write music and was kind of hoping I could find the time to do it myself in two or three months' time. Hi Rick, It's been a year, seems I didn't reply, sorry. This is my arrangement, somebody offered to write sheet music for it, I gave permission provided he would attribute my name, and make it free to the public, but I never heard back. It's an old traditional folk song and nobody owns copyright on it, however one could copyright one's own arrangement. I don't have the time, but would want my own arrangement to be freely available. It has a Creative Commons (Attribution required) License, so if anyone out there can write music and figure what I'm doing (link above to my piano tutorial) it's one way you can give something back to the world :)

@SKIINGisLOVE @SKIINGisLOVE Well thank you, I take it as a compliment, as I play by ear and have been playing this tune for many years, it's my own version which has evolved into what you're hearing, but you never know, maybe one day I might find time to transcribe it to sheet music :-)

@ShedeasVideos Cool, I'll be sure to get it going and show it on youtube. :) It's a grandfather clock too. :) It stopped running almost perminatly when my grandpa died... (ironic because it's like the song.) And it doesn't like to run for longer than 30 minutes unless someone's paying attention to it. (If I'm sitting their watching it.) And I always feel like either it, or my grandpa is watching me watching it. Once I felt someone's hand on my shoulder, noone there.-

@ShedeasVideos With today technology, transcribe is very easy. You just sit and play at some electric piano (even the cheapest one on the planet) and record the song with it. Today, most EP can convert it to file (MIDI) which also can be convert to sheet music easily. I just like your version and don't want it to disappear in time.
