Even back in 2002 the town had more to offer, now all the things that made it really special have gone.

In the 80s, we thought we had it rough, lost Gala Land, North and South bay pools, lot of hotels turning into flats up South Cliff........boy oh boy oh boy, did we have it good when we look back now!

@@richardburns5925 I lived there in the early to mid 80's and it was AMAZING compared to the shell that it is nowadays. Such a shame but it is down to the dreadful bunch of crooks called Scarborough Council. They haved ripped the soul out of the resort over the decades.

@@jeffallinson8089 yes, like I say, the 80s was the last of the glory years, though we didn't know it then. What they've done, they've tried to modernise what should be, what the public want, a traditional seaside resort with bespoke architecture/buildings/attractions. Like the North bay, instead of the Corner Cafe and all those seaside novelty shops, we've got a Nisa local and yuppie flats, let's get rid of the bucket n spade n candy floss n rock shops, let's have a block a flats instead.

@@richardburns5925 They will be wanting to knock the Grand Hotel down next. Nothing would surprise me about the Council and their shady dealings.

@@jeffallinson8089 well, that Dave Ebony did say that they want to demolish it, in a film he's done on the Grand, due to the paths at the side slipping away, subsidence will give them an excuse to demolish it he said. And he called it a dump!!! Needless to say I defended it vigorously, both barrels he got, but then I would do, nothing but till I drop, being Scarborough born n bred!
